Baptismal Promises: Baptismal Promises: Baptismal Promises: Baptismal Promises: Do you believe in God the Father?Do you believe in God the Father?Do you believe in God the Father?Do you believe in God the Father?
At the Easter Vigil, we will be asked, “Do you believe in God, the Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth?” How can we believe in God whom we cannot see? We see however all that God has made so we can say, “we thank you Father for all that is beautiful in the world, for the happiness you have given us, for daylight, for your Word which lights up our minds, for the earth and all the people who live on it, and for our life which comes from you.” Yet, there has to be more to believing than simply seeing. On Holy Thursday at the Evening Mass of the Lord’s Supper, we hear what Jesus did to help us see God. On the night before he died, he gave his disciples bread and wine, saying they were his body and blood. He also told them that whenever they wanted to remember him, they were to share his meal. Then, we hear he went a step further. The beloved one of God, the holy one who had been transfigured on a mountaintop stooped and washed their feet. As we walk this Lent, let us pray for eyes to see God both in the Eucharist and especially in those whom we serve. May we honor our baptismal promises by loving one another.

Catequésis Comunitaria Viendo a Jesús
Community Catechesis Seeing Jesus
2nd Sunday of Lent Week of March 4, 2012
Listen to the Word (Mark 9:2-10)
As you hear the familiar story of the Transfiguration today, what words or phrases strike you? What images from Mark's Gospel
touch your heart and/or linger in your memory?
Look into your life Question for children: Name or draw a picture of a time you knew that Jesus was with you. Question for youth: The disciples had a very intense experience of Jesus on the mountain top. Have you ever had a "mountain top" experience? What was it like for you? Question for adults: In what ways does Jesus speak today, ways in which you can truly "listen to him?"
Activities for this week Take these activities to further reflect on the readings: ▪ The transfiguration is a manifestation of God. After reflecting on that statement, share your thoughts on these questions: Can you name a moment in your life when you felt God was present to you? What effect did that experience have on your life? ▪ Share with your children stories of how your faith in Jesus has helped you. Assure your children of your love for him or her. Let your children know that he or she can always count on your love and on the love of Jesus. ▪ Go on a treasure hunt. See how many places you can find signs of Jesus' presence. ▪ Use the responsorial psalm for this week as your family prayer: "I will walk in the presence of the Lord in the land of the living."

Stewardship by the Bible
MARCH 4TH
SECOND SUNDAY OF LENT Today’s First and Second Readings are linked
by a common theme: sacrifice. Abraham is will-
ing to sacrifice his only son, Isaac. To encourage
the Christian community in Rome, St. Paul re-
minds them that God did not spare His only Son,
sacrificing Him for the good of all. In St. Mark’s
Gospel account of the Transfiguration, God
clearly identifies Jesus as His Son, and Jesus
alludes to His death and resurrection. Our own
sacrifice of the “first fruits” of our time, talent, and treasure to God through the Church and
greater community are solid acts of Christian
stewardship, bringing great peace and joy to
those who embrace it as a way of life.
