Integrity What is Integrity? Integrity is standing up for what you believe is right, living by your highest values. It is being honest and sincere with others and yourself. You are integrous when your words and ac-tions match. You don’t fool yourself into doing what you know is wrong. You fill your life and your mind with things that help you to live a good, clean life. How do you Practice integrity? You practice integrity by thinking about the virtues that matter to you and doing your best to live by them. When you make a mistake, you clean it up. You don’t follow the crowd. You think for yourself. You don’t say one thing and do another. You do the right thing even when no one is watching. Even when it is hard to do the right thing, you stand strong.
Lord, you are always there waiting for me.
May I never be too busy to find time to spend in your presence.
Dear Parents, Students and Members of the Community, As I prepare this newsletter, and accompanying Term Planner, I am reminded of the busyness that is ahead of us this term. In this time of busyness it is important to remember, and make time for God in our lives. The reflection of the day is a timely reminder of the importance of daily prayer. On behalf of the Victor Rodwell and the School Board, I would like to inform the community that the principal appointment processes for Our Lady of Lourdes School, Dardanup is now complete. The Executive Director of Catholic Education Western Australia, Dr Tim McDonald, and the Bishop of Bunbury, Bishop Holohan, are pleased to announce that Mrs Angela Hegney has been appointed as Principal of Our Lady of Lourdes School. Angela is an enthusiastic, experienced educator with a commitment to Catholic schools. She is currently the Assistant Principal at St Joseph’s School, Busselton. Angela has had experience as Acting Principal in St Joseph’s School, Busselton and St Mary’s School, Donnybrook. We congratulate Angela and look forward to welcoming her into our school community. Finalising the appointment at this time will mean that Angela will be able to be part of a smooth transition and the planning for 2016 with both Des Wilkie and myself.
I was delighted to read in the Inside Cover of Saturday’s paper that article referring to the wonderful work from our school. At the end of last term we raffled a football signed by the West Coast Eagles leadership team – we raised $750. The money was donated back to the West Coast E0agles ‘Tabitha Foundation’ which supports families and communities in Cambodia in their journey to a better life, providing food, income security, safe water, housing and education. The article is posted on the school noticeboard. Thanks to Mrs Addy Godwin and the Student Leaders for coordinating the raffle; and congratulations to Jack Monkhouse, who won the football. The article is later in the newsletter. Swimming Lessons Thank-you to everyone who has returned their swimming enrolment forms. We ask that all forms are returned ASAP so planning can be finalised. We need all students to fill in and return enrolment forms even if they are beyond stage 12 + and do not wish to do lessons. Cyber safety I invite and encourage all parents to attend the Cyber Safety presentation by Nola Marino on Wednesday November 4th from 6.30 – 8.00pm. Can you please register your interest with the office staff so we are aware of numbers attending. Catholic Schools Interschool Sports – Years 1 - 6 St Michael’s Brunswick will be hosting this year’s carnival at the Hay Park Athletics facility in Bunbury on Friday, 6th November. Students in Blue and Gold Faction will be in Lourdes Blue, whilst students in Red and Green will be in Lourdes White. Students in Lourdes Blue can wear their sports shirts, whilst those in white need to wear a predominantly white shirt. For students who do not have a white T-shirt at home, we do have a stock of white shirts available to borrow for the day. Please drop into the office, or send in a note, if you would like to borrow a shirt. Graduation Mass and Awards Night Our Graduation Mass and Awards Evening will be happening on Wednesday, 9th December. As this is a compulsory event for all students and families, could everyone please prioritise this date on their calendars.
God’s blessing to you all

Religious Education News
Our Mission is to provide a high quality education that will inspire an ongoing love of God which embraces the val-
ues of:
Integrity, Respect, Compassion, Justice and Courage.
This week we had a visit from Bishop Holohan, who
came to see us all and spend morning tea with the
staff. Bishop Holohan was able to meet with students
and experience the “Spirit of Jesus” that we exhibit so
well at OLOL.
The year 1 and 2 classes will be visiting the Cathedral
in Bunbury next week and having a tour.

Mark 10:46-52 Jesus restores sight to the blind man, Bartimaeus
Today's Gospel offers us a powerful example of faith
and persistence in prayer. Those around him rebuked Bartimaeus for his efforts to attract Jesus' attention. When silenced by the crowd, however, Bartimaeus
called out all the more. He is persistent and bold in his confidence that Jesus will show mercy on him and do
what he asks. His persistence and great confidence that Jesus would help him reminds us of the confidence
with which our children bring to us their needs. In their faith and trust we can find an example of the attitude
with which we might approach God in prayer. As a family, recall a request that has been made repeat-edly by one family member to another. Talk about why the request continues to be made if the answer contin-ues to be no. Then read together today's Gospel, Mark
10:46-52. After reading the Gospel, pose questions such as these to your family: Why must Bartimaeus be persistent in calling out to Jesus? (Some people in the crowd are telling him to be quiet.) What does Barti-
maeus do when some try to stop him? (He calls out to Jesus all the more.) When Jesus stops and calls for him, what does Jesus do and say? (He restores Bartimaeus's
sight; Jesus tells Bartimaeus his faith has saved him.) When we pray, God wants us to be so confident he will help us that we don't permit anyone to keep us from
bringing our needs to God in prayer.
Did you know...
Until about the 15th century hundreds of myster-
ies were part of the Rosary devotion then the 15
mysteries that we know today were definitively
fixed as "the Mysteries of the Rosary."
Pope John Paul II, in his encyclical, Rosarium Vir-
ginis Mariae, in 2002 added the five Luminous
Mysteries.

OUR LADY OF LOURDES – CLASS NEWS
KINDY We know our parts
for our assembly and practice
is in full swing. We have lines
to learn, actions to do and a
song to remember. The words
of one Kindy student reflects
that we are all "excited, but a
little bit nervous".
PRE PRIMARY Last Friday we had three volunteer fire-
fighters from Dardanup Central come to school to teach us about fire safety and to show us the special equipment they have on their truck. We were lucky enough to use the big hose on the truck as well as the little hose to try and knock over a cone. We all got to sit in the truck and the fire fighters put the siren on for us as they left. It was a fantastic afternoon. Look for the photos on our next class webpage!
YEAR 1 In year 1 this week we welcomed Mia
to our class. We continue to work hard learning
lots of new things. Next week we will be going to
St Patrick's Cathedral in Bunbury for a tour and
then we will have lunch in Bunbury. We have
been busy practising for the Interschool Sports
Carnival.
YEAR 2 Last term at the MJR assembly, the Year
2's won the class block tower. As a reward, we
spent last Friday afternoon having a 'free art
time'. We were allowed to use anything from Ms
Scott's storeroom, to create whatever we
pleased! We had an awesome afternoon and can't
wait until we win the next tower challenge!
YEAR 3 We are looking forward to the school
sports carnival. We have been making paper
mosaic pictures and learning about different
communities to which we belong. We have
learned that human beings need to form
communities because we are created in the
image of God who is a Trinity – a Community of
Persons – Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
YEAR 4 This week in Year 4, we have
been practising writing great introductions for persuasive essays. Did you know that you can start with a statistic, a story or even an outrageous statement? They make the start of the persuasive so much more interesting. We have been learning about the principles of Catholic Social Teaching, which will help us to complete our books all about Caritas - stay tuned!
YEAR 5 Exciting times in year 5 as we prepare our leadership
speeches for next week. The speeches have really got us thinking
about the reasons why we want to be a leader of our school and
the qualities that a good leader has. We look forward to reading
them out next week! In maths we are finishing up our unit on
perimeter and we are really enjoying the Mathletics program,
which is helping to further our knowledge of the skills we are doing
this term.
YEAR 6 Last Friday we went to the
Bunbury Regional Entertainment Centre to watch Manea College's drama performance. We were very impressed with their acting skills! This week we have been preparing for our own dramatic performances. Next week we will be presenting two plays for your enjoyment!
CYBER-SAFETY
An Invitation to all parents to attend an evening with Nola Marino
Do you know where your children are, who they are with and what they are doing?
It should be no different when they are online!
Working with local and Federal Police and being on the Joint Select Committee for Cyber-Safety we have been able to identify what
concerns young people when using the internet.
Topics covered: The risks associated with social media like Fa-
cebook and Twitter,
Cyber bullying,
Your child’s digital footprint,
What it means to be groomed online,
Your mobile phone and its security weaknesses such as location
services
And of course scams.
