Dear Parishioners: It is hard to believe but Christmas is upon us! By the time you read this, we will be talking about hours, not days, until Christmas! In the midst of the hustle and bustle, let us not forget the true meaning of Christmas: God loving us so much that God became one of us in Christ! As St. John reminds us: “God so loved the world that He gave His only Son that whoever believes in Him may not die but may have eternal life. God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world but that the world might be saved through Him (John 3:16-17).” This is the heart of the Christmas message. God loved us so much that He sent His only Son, Jesus Christ, and Jesus Christ loved us so much that He died on the cross for us. That awesome message is the Good News! It is news that may sound too good to be true – but it is true! Our response to that Good News is to do what the shepherds and Wise Men did: Come, let us adore! We adore Christ by our participation at Sunday Mass each week and by participating in the life of the parish family of Our Lady of Lourdes Church. For some of us, we may not feel worthy to be close to God. You may recall the words of the song, The Little Drummer Boy: “I have no gifts to bring that’s fit to give a king.” We are like the drummer boy; we are not worthy of the great gift of Jesus, his only Son. But God loves us anyway: uncondi-tionally and forever. Now that is something to be truly thankful for! As you know, Christmas is a time of giving. Why not give someone the gift of faith! This Christmas would be a great time to personally invite someone you know who is in the situation of not going to Church to come back to Church. It does not have to be complicated or pushy! Just a simple “Why don’t you come to church with my family this Christmas” can be a very powerful invitation. Give it a shot! I also wanted to take this opportunity to thank Cathy Danowski and the Family Liturgy Committee. They have done some wonderful things throughout the Advent season, highlighted by the Breakfast with St. Nicholas and the wonderful Bethlehem Boulevard. The entire committee did a wonderful job with the children during this Advent season. Think about joining the committee. They are always looking for new ideas and new volunteers! Remember: Together, we can do something beautiful for God. In Christ, Fr. Brian PS: Don’t forget to hand in your chances for our 50/50 drawing which will take place after Christmas. Send them in by mail or drop them off at the rectory. As the saying goes, you have to in it to win it! So, be in it and win it! Think about giving the chances as a Christmas gift to your family and friends. It will be a nice way to help the parish at the same time. Give them as Christmas gifts to your adult children! The drawing will take place on Sunday, January 13 after the 12:30pm Mass.

As members of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish, we are faced with a challenge that we can only overcome together. As you know from the recent mailing, there are urgent maintenance needs at our convent. It is important that each and every member of the Our Lady of Lourdes Parish family participates in this worthy project. It is only by our generosity in mak-ing a sacrificial gift that we will be able to accomplish our objectives. We have established a goal of $442,000 in order to accomplish our objectives. While this seems like a large amount, participation by all members of the parish family will make this goal not only attainable, but one that we can surpass. If every family pledges $400, after a $40 down payment, your sacrifice would be $1 a day for one year. We can all do that. If you are able to pledge a higher amount, please do so. We’re asking for equal sacrifice, not equal giving.

As you make your gift, please remember…

• Pledges and one time donations are welcomed and greatly appre-ciated.

• Payment reminders will be mailed to you in accordance with your payment plan.

• All contributions are deductible for tax purposes.

• Any questions? Call Fr. Brian at 631-661-3224

Sharing the Gospel Mary couldn't wait to visit her much older cousin, Elizabeth, up in the hills of Judea. Both of them were expecting babies. Each of them knew that the birth of her child was a special event that could only happen because they trusted God. Your own mother trusted that God would give you life in this world. Both Mary and Elizabeth watched their children grow up to do good things. You can grow up to do good things too, if you trust in God.

Something to Draw Ask your mother who she visited while she was waiting for you to be born. Draw a picture of her visiting with a relative or friend.

Prayer

Dear Jesus, Help me to trust You and to remember that You are the reason we celebrate Christmas. Amen.

Mission for the Week

You belong to a larger family than just the people in your home. See how many of your relatives you can name before you visit them at Christmas. When you see them, wish them “Merry Christmas!”
