Hospices and rest homes may lose government funding if they opt out. Please contact your own MP and as many others as you can of those who voted “Aye” for the Bill at Second Reading (other than David Seymour). Find their names on the Parliament website with internet search phrase ‘End of Life Choice Bill - Second Reading’, then scroll past the speeches. Ask them to vote against the Bill – your message could include one or more of the suggestions above, using your own words. For the email addresses of MPs, go to www.parliament.nz, then search phrase ‘contact MP’. 2. Join in Prayer. A Prayer Vigil has been initiated by the Catholic Charis network, involving many Catholic and other church communi- ties. It is inspired by the Book of the prophet Nehemiah who encouraged families to build the Jerusalem wall in front of where they lived. It begins on All Saints day, Friday 1 November at 8.00 pm through to Saturday 2 November 6.00 am. People/communities are asked to simply nominate a one-hour time-slot, and pray from the comfort of their own homes in unison with others. 3. You’re invited to a peaceful gathering at Parliament on Wednesday 13 November for everyone who wants Parliament to vote against the Bill becoming law that day. Living Wage Week 3-10 November 2019. This week we reflect on the fact that for over 125 years the Catholic Church has supported the need for a just wage sufficient to adequately provide for a worker’s family. In July 2016 Bishop Pat gave his support to the Living Wage movement that has in recent years been so successful in raising the wages of low paid workers. Of the 285,000 children living in poverty in New Zealand, 40% come from families where at least one adult is in full time work or self-employed. As Parishioners we can look to ways to encourage employers to pay their workers the Living Wage which as Bishop Pat puts so well is a way of enabling families “to support themselves to live life with a modicum of respectability and not just be on the bread line.”

National March for Life in Wellington on Saturday 7 December. Join Kiwis from all
over NZ in a family-friendly celebration of life which also peacefully protests the practice
and legality of abortion. At Civic Square from 12pm. March to Parliament Grounds
begins at 2pm. Concludes at 4pm.
