OUR LADY OF LOURDES September 12, 2021
Twenty Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Christ Jesus, who, though He was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but
emptied Himself, taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form He
humbled Himself and became obedient unto death, even death on a cross.
Therefore God has highly exalted Him and bestowed on Him the name that is above every name, that at the name of
Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus
Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.-- Philippians 2:5-11
For the Christian, the Cross of Jesus Christ is not a symbol of destruction and defeat, but of entry into the new and
eternal life of Jesus Christ. One cannot separate the Cross of Calvary from the Crib of Bethlehem. The Child of
Bethlehem Jesus Christ, Incarnate, the uniting of the Divine to the Human. The Cross of Christ is the uniting of
humanity to a New Heaven and New Earth.

A Word From Our Pastor
APOSTOLIC JOURNEY
TO THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
AND VISIT TO THE UNITED NATIONS
ORGANIZATION HEADQUARTERS
VISIT TO GROUND ZERO
PRAYER OF HIS HOLINESS BENEDICT XVI
Ground Zero, New York
Sunday, 20 April 2008
O God of love, compassion, and healing, look on us, people of
many different faiths and traditions, who gather today at this site,
the scene of incredible violence and pain.
We ask you in your goodness to give eternal light and peace to all
who died here - the heroic first responders: our firefighters, police
officers, emergency service workers, and Port Authority
personnel, along with all the innocent men and women who were
victims of this tragedy simply because their work or service
brought them here on September 11, 2001.
We ask you, in your compassion to bring healing to those who,
because of their presence here that day, suffer from injuries and
illness. Heal, too, the pain of still-grieving families and all who
lost loved ones in this tragedy. Give them strength to continue
their lives with courage and hope.
We are mindful as well of those who suffered death, injury, and
loss on the same day at the Pentagon and in Shanksville,
Pennsylvania. Our hearts are one with theirs as our prayer
embraces their pain and suffering.
God of peace, bring your peace to our violent world: peace in the
hearts of all men and women and peace among the nations of the
Earth. Turn to your way of love those whose hearts and minds
are consumed with hatred.
God of understanding, overwhelmed by the magnitude of this
tragedy, we seek your light and guidance as we confront such
terrible events.
Grant that those whose lives were spared may live so that the lives
lost here may not have been lost in vain. Comfort and console us,
strengthen us in hope, and give us the wisdom and courage to
work tirelessly for a world where true peace and love reign among
nations and in the hearts of all.
Pope Benedict XVI

Mrs. Meg Palmer has joined the middle school team
teaching English. After earning a BA in English and
Education from Bradley University, she has taught
English, Multimedia, and served as department chair-
person at Trinity High School for six years. We are
excited to have Mrs. Palmer in 8th grade homeroom
and middle school English.
This year, Our Lady of Lourdes utilized Emergency Assis-
tance for Nonpublic Schools funds to support a full-time
counselor on site for students each day! We are happy to
welcome Marissa Ellis. Miss Ellis has a background in Art
Therapy and had already proved invaluable working with
students one on one, in small and large groups and work-
ing to support teachers in meeting the needs of all learn-
ers. Her insights and compassion are impacting students
already!
Starting in mid-September, Miss Margaret Gir-
ardin will join our team as a Primary Aide.
Miss Girardin or Miss G, recently earned her
Master of Arts in Teaching through the
Creighton University Magis program while liv-
ing in community and working at a Christo
Rey school in Kansas City. We are excited to
have her support for our Primary teachers in
teaching leveled reading and group work
Dear Our Lady of Lourdes Parishioners -
Almost all research about effective education points to teachers as having the largest impact on student suc-
cess! Here at Lourdes, we are blessed with some of the finest and we are excited to add these new faces to
complete our team.
We are blessed to have many wonderful returning and new teachers. We are thankful for their dedicated service.
Sincerely,
Dr. Koenen

The Wellston Center Thrift Shop has an ongoing
need for multiple volunteers to sort clothing do-
nations every Tuesday and Wednesday morning
between 9am till noon. If you can come once,
that's great. If you can come on a regular basis,
that's even better. No need to sign up. Just come
when you can and leave when you need to. In
addition, a permanent volunteer is needed to sort
linens on a weekly basis, preferably on Tuesday
morning. For more information about these op-
portunities, contact [email protected].
WEEKLY BIBLE REFLECTIONS
September 12, 2021
24th Sunday in Ordinary Time
“Whoever wishes to come after me must deny himself, take
up his cross, and follow me.” (Mark 8:34)
Living a stewardship lifestyle means not only being
responsible for my own life, but for the lives of others as
well. We realize that our gifts are not intended for ourselves,
rather they are meant to be shared with others. “Taking up
my cross” means doing things when someone else needs
me and not when it’s convenient for me.
