OUR LADY OF MERCY PARISH MISSION STATEMENT Our Lady of Mercy Parish is a Catholic community that worships God the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, celebrating Mass, proclaiming the Gospel Message and uniting in prayer. We strive to welcome all and to educate ourselves and others in the Good News of Jesus Christ. We support one another in times of joy and sadness and attempt to serve each other by reaching out to those in need in our community and beyond. We are imperfect people on a journey. Our goal is that the life of each person leads to the Lord.

GOD’S PLAN FOR GIVING – Tithing

Sunday’s Collection: $15,888 Last Year’s Collection: $14,775 Mission Collection: $ 7,009

Tithing is God’s plan to support His Church. Full tithing means 10% of gross income to God. We ask half of this, or 5%, for your Parish church. The other 5% goes to your favorite charities.

STEWARDSHIP REFLECTION

“...as a matter of equality your abundance at the present time should supply their want, so that their abundance may supply your want, that there may be equality.” 2 CORINTHIANS 8:14

We are responsible not only for our own lives, but for the lives of those around us. It is important that we not only grow, nurture and share our gifts; but that we also teach our children and encourage others to do the same. This is the communal aspect of our Catholic faith. We are the “Body of Christ”. We are called to be dependent on each other and not live in isolation.

There are consecrated low gluten hosts available at all our Sunday Liturgies. They are made available during the reception of Communion near the ramp.

SHARING GOD’S BLESSINGS — To date we have received $55,032 in pledges. Our Goal is $99,592. Thank you to those parishioners who have already shown their support and generosity.

THE MIRACULOUS MEDAL NOVENA will be recited each Saturday in the Sacred Heart Chapel immediately following the 8:30AM Mass.

THE FAMILY OF GOD meets every Tuesday at 7:30PM in the Chapel to praise God and pray for special intentions.

WELCOME NEW PARISHIONERS

Do you regularly attend Mass at Our Lady of Mercy Church but have never gotten around to formally registering? It’s easy. Just go to our website UROLM.org and click on “About Us” and select “become a parishioner” and complete the online form. Someone from the Rectory will contact you to schedule an appointment so that you can get acquainted with one of our Priests.

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION—At OLM we are blessed to have Eucharistic Adoration, starting after the 8:00PM Mass, every First Friday and continuing throughout the night ending at 6:30AM, on Saturday. DAUGHTERS OF MARY meets Thursday mornings at 9:30AM in the Chapel.

THE ROSARY SOCIETY will attend the 8:30AM Mass on Saturday, July 7th followed by recitation of the Rosary. Newcomers welcome!

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,

As the Fourth of July is almost upon us, which cele-brates the signing of our Declaration of Independence, let us recall its opening words: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalien-able Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness."

How clearly the Founding Fathers state that all comes from our Creator: each life; each freedom! As we give thanks for these gifts, let us each also examine our hearts and our lives to ask: How do I use my own free-dom? Do I use my freedom to affirm that same dignity of life for every person who finds himself or herself in this land, in every condition and stage of life?

During this week we might pray with the words of the Opening "Collect" Prayer we will hear at Mass on July Fourth:

Father of all nations and ages, we recall the day when our country claimed its place among the family of nations; for what has been achieved we give you thanks, for the work that still remains we ask your help, and as you have called us from many peoples to be one nation, grant that, under your provi-dence, our country may share your blessings with all the peoples of the earth. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

***** On another note, let's continue to pray for the families who have been our guests since June 24 and will be with us until July 7 as part of "Family Promise." We pray for them and for all who struggle for lack of shelter or lack of work. A word of thanks and our prayers for Joni and Ron von Autenried and the many people who have been helping our guests in countless ways during these two weeks! God bless you all!

Prayer for Our Country

Almighty God, bless our nation and make it true to the ideas of freedom

and justice and brotherhood for all who make it great. Guard us from war, from fire and wind,

from compromise, fear, confusion. Be close to our president and our statesmen;

give them vision and courage, as they ponder decisions affecting peace

and the future of the world. Make me more deeply aware of my heritage;

realizing not only my rights but also my duties and responsibilities as a citizen.

Make this great land and all its people know clearly Your will,

that they may fulfill the destiny ordained for us in the salvation of the nations,

and the restoring of all things in Christ. Amen.

ANOINTING OF THE SICK: No Longer Last Rites! If you are suffering from a terminal illness, have a chronic illness or will be having surgery soon, you can receive the Anointing of the Sick. There is no reason to wait until near death. Call the Rectory Office at 201-391-5315.

“Splash” CANYON Vacation Bible School August 6—10 Forms and information for children going into Grades K to 6 in the Fall, are available on our site. Look for the display in the Gathering Space. WOMEN’S CORNERSTONE 11 Team Formation Meeting Attention Cornerstone Sisters! The Cornerstone 11 team is currently forming. HACKENSACK SOUP KITCHEN Walk in Dinner Program—Our Lady of Mercy will be hosting on Thursday, July 12th. Bulletin boards will be set up in the Gathering Space and in the Vestibule of the Church indicating the food needed. These items should be brought to the Parish Center on Thursday, July 12th by 2PM. If you wish to volun-teer to help serve dinner, please call Dolly 201-247-8102 or Elaine 201-391-5051 no later than Tuesday, July 10th.

BIBLE STUDY—The summer three-week Bible study begins with "Sara and Hagar" on July 10 at 9AM and July 11 at 12:30 and 7:30PM in the St. Mary room. Books are available now by calling Carolyn at 201-746-0315. Beginners welcomed!

SACRAMENT OF CONFIRMATION Requirements Please remember that the preparation in Grades 1 and 2 for First Communion is only the beginning of your child’s preparation for the sacraments! According to the requirements of the Archdiocese of Newark, Religious Education is also required from Grades 3 through 8 in order to be ready for the sacrament of Confirmation. Please contact the Religious Education office right away to register your child for the appropriate Grade. If one or more of the Grades has been missed, we will do our best to provide you with the needed make-up mate-rials for you to guide your child in the necessary prepa-ration at home. If you have an older child, or a child with special needs, or if you yourself would like some more information on how to prepare for the Sacra-ments, we would love to work with you and support you in this process. WOMEN’S CREATIVE GROUP Thursday, July 12th 7:00 - 9:00 in the Parish Center—Come be creative with us! The Women's Creative Group is a place for women of our parish to come and work on their craft projects: doodling, scrapbooking, knitting, counted cross stitch and more. Take time from your busy schedule to let your creative juices flow! Bring your current project or, if you would like to learn something new, come and see what other women are working on. HAITI MISSION UPDATE Thank you for all of your support this year. We didn’t have to ask twice. Your generosity covered all of our scholarships for this school year, 2017-2018. On July 12th we leave for Vallieres to give the scholarship tests for school year 2018 – 2019. We are pleased that Fr. Joe is coming with us and will be joining in the task of administering the scholarship tests. As always, we ask for your prayers for a successful trip and a safe return. You make all of this possible. God bless you. You are God’s blessing for the people of Vallieres.
