Liturgy Notes In this weekend’s Scripture Readings we will hear the word “light” mentioned numerous times. Most particularly, in the first Old Tes-

tament, the Responsorial Psalm and in the Holy Gospel. The First Reading concludes with ’then light shall rise for you in

the darkness’, The Psalm (112) states: ’The just man (person) is a light in the darkness’ and again in the Gospel it declares that ’you

(we) are the light in the world, a person does not put a lamp under

a bushel basket, rather, on a lampstand where it gives light to all in the house’.

The Church offers a large selection of music for such Sunday’s as this one. Our Processional Hymn, “Immortal, Invisible, God Only

Wise”, recognizes God being the ’true light of all. The Recessional Hymn will be new to us, but the text in “Arise!

Your Light has Come” makes a perfect choice as we depart to seal in the message of today.

Two spiritual songs will be used this weekend. Written in the

1920’s, “This Little Light of Mine” started off as a children’s song, then later transformed by the Civil Rights Movement to be used as

an anthem. North Carolina resident and composer Lillian Bouknight wrote an energetic version of Psalm 72 “The Lord is My

Light and My Salvation”. This choral version will be sung at the 10 AM Eucharist. The song comes out of the Catholic Hymnal “Lead

Me, Guide Me” published by Oregon Catholic Press. ~ Ray Murphy, Music Director

Each Sunday, during the 10:00AM Liturgy, Children are invited to come downstairs for The Liturgy of The Word on their level. They return back upstairs at the time of the offertory.

Coordinator of Religious Education Betsy Fitzsimons 203-287-0316

Pray: Thank you, God, for giving each of us special gifts. Help me to find new ways to share my talents with other people. Amen.

Think: When have another person’s actions inspired you to do something good? Act: Invite each member of your family to share a spe-cial talent in a family talent show. Praise each partici-pant for having the courage to share their light with oth-ers. After everyone has shared, say a prayer of thanks to God for giving you special gifts.

The Marian Guild is continuing to provide children’s Meal Bags to Go for St. Ann’s Soup Kitchen. The generous donations of parishioners has provided us with an abundance of items to prepare these bags week-ly throughout the winter.

Our sincere appreciation to all !

A FAMILY PERSPECTIVE by Bud Ozar In today’s gospel Jesus asked Simon to start by “going a

short distance.” Later he asked Simon to “go into deeper

water.” The first step toward reconciliation is usually a

“short distance” which fives us the courage to further “into

deeper water.” Reconciliation starts with the first short

step!

Parish Book Discussion “The Dutch House” by Ann Patchett is a novel of obsession and for-giveness in the vein of Alice McDer-mott and F. Scott Fitzgerald. Set in suburban Philadelphia, this Catholic family goes through loss

and achievement, abandonment and reunion with the rich storytelling that makes for compelling reading.

We will meet to discuss the novel THIS Monday evening, February 10th at 7pm in the

Parish library off the Church Hall.

ROSARY for LIFE TODAY Sunday

February 9th at 12:15 PM in the Cry Room All are Welcome !

“Dear families always live in faith and simplicity like the Holy Family of Nazareth”

~ Pope Francis I

In his homily for our March for Life pilgrims' hotel Mass, Archbishop Blair explained to a room of 250+ Archdioce-san high school students that "You are called by name, by

God, to do Him some service that no other person can do ... Out of all the billions of people that will ever exist, there will never be another you. Every circumstance of

your life, everything that happens to you, the people you encounter, the decisions you make, are absolutely unique. That you have a mission from Jesus Christ, like the apos-

tles did, to bear witness to the truth of the Gospel, to do good, to put down evil, and to be a positive factor in the lives of other people."
