The Congregation of the Missionaries of St. Charles – Scalabrinians – is an International community of religious serving migrants and refugees of different cultures, religions and ethnicities in 32 countries and on five continents. The Congregation was founded on November 28, 1887, by Blessed John Baptist Scalabrini (1839-1905), bishop of Piacenza (Italy). It was the period of massive emigration from Italy and Europe toward the Ameri-cas. It was a far-reaching phenomenon whose importance Bishop Scalabrini was able to grasp in both its so-cial and religious dimensions. Our missionary focus has been to be migrants with the migrants and to be in mission with people on the move along with a special priority for the poorest migrants. What has become very obvious is that as we have taken more missionary risks and made an effort to clarify our Charism we have been blessed with more and more vocations.

A few weeks ago I mentioned in this space how we were preparing to present our parishioners with an updated and more extended Sunday Bulletin. As of last week, we all had the opportunity to enjoy this long awaited format. An extra page will provide us with more space to share spiritual reflections and news about realities facing our parish community. A color front page will en-hance its presentation. The intention is also to print everything in larger size, so no one encounters difficulty when learning about all the good things hap-pening at Mount Carmel. Hopefully this change will bring enthusiasm to all in the community and hopefully will also awaken the desire to take a copy home and share its content with family members and those who could be interested in our faith community. The advantage of our Sunday Bulletin is that it extends throughout the week the spiritual connection with our Faith family, which is the Parish. The reflections provided allow our Christian commitment to be nourished while keeping all members informed about the different choices we have to become pastorally involved in Church activities. The names of those who are getting married are being published so we join their joy because of their sacramental commitment. The names of those who have passed are also published so we
can pray for the repose of their soul. Financial information is made available every week so we have a clear idea of our Parish’s stewardship efforts. Additionally, the different activities for the month/week are there for us all to know what is happening in our pastoral and missionary activity. I hope that we all take advantage of this magnificent tool and make sure no one leaves the church with-out a copy. Being informed is the first step in becoming a good disciple for it provides us with the opportunity to be part of the manifold Grace God bestows in our Faith Family. Go through the reflections we choose every week and share them with family members as this is, certainly, one of the best ways to continue growing in the ways of the Spirit. Profit from the many services we continuously provide by learning about them in our bulle-tin and be a person who intercedes for others when you read their names on it. Blessing to all and let us contin-ue being the incredible Faith Community God dreams with. Adsum,
From the Pastor’s Desk

SEPTEMBER 18, 2016 TWENTY-FIFTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
