“Go, eat rich foods and drink sweet drinks, and allot portions to those who had nothing

prepared…” (Nehemiah 8:10)

Ezra’s instructions to the people show us that God does not forbid us from enjoying the good

things in life. He wants us to be happy! However, God expects us to be grateful for all that He has given us and to generously share our blessings with those who are in need without expecting

anything in return.

A letter from Father David Dear Friends, On January 22, 1973, seven justices on the United States Supreme Court, in a case called Roe v. Wade, substituted their views for the views of the people, held almost universally, and certainly throughout the Chris-tian and Jewish faiths. Those seven justices rejected the will of the people of all fifty States, as reflected in the enacted laws in each of those States, that severely limited the right of an individual to take innocent life by aborting the life of a baby in its mother’s womb. Instead, these justices substituted their own views by permit-ting virtually all abortions. What was for centuries viewed as a heinous sin and a serious crime, suddenly, overnight, became a right. And they did this, not pursuant to some clause in the Constitution or any other duly enacted law, but, many would argue, in contravention to law. They ruled pursuant to judge-made law – law that they themselves made up – that proposed that there were some nebulous rights that existed somewhere out there, that the courts could define from time to time at their own discretion – based upon their own reading of morality and social engineering – and that, once defined, thereafter could only be contested by means of a con-stitutional amendment or a reversal by the Supreme Court itself. The decision received significant criticism in the legal community, where it was viewed, and continues to be viewed, as an extreme form of judicial activism, outdone in its brazenness only by the decision of the Supreme Court in 2015 in the case of Obergefell v. Hodges not only allowing States to permit, but mandating that States permit, same sex marriage. Overnight, a sin becomes a right. O how adept Satan is at taking something and twisting it in such a way that what is objectively evil, instead sounds very good. Satan is very, very good at doing this. He has been able to insert lies and deceptions into the minds of so many people today, to the point where abortion is justified in their minds; and even to the point where many who reject abortion, do not do a single thing to voice their objection to it. Human life is not a commodity for us to do with as we please. It is not a commodity that we can man-age and dispose of accordingly to our own will or preference. Life is a gift; a gift received from God. We do not take life out of God’s hands. We receive life from God’s hands, as a cherished gift. A gift to be protected, from the point of conception to the point of natural death. That is the truth. And it is the truth that we as Cath-olics are called upon to give witness to, and to proclaim to the world. We pray for those whose hearts have been hardened and deceived by Satan. We pray for the sacred-ness of all human life, from conception to natural death. May God give us the courage to give witness. God bless. Father David
