PASTOR’S MESSAGE
Dear Friends,
Just a reminder that the Rectory Office started
summer hours this week. The office will be open from
9:00 AM till 3:00 PM Monday thru Thursday and on Fri-
day the Office will be open from 9:00 AM till 12:00 Noon.
This will give the support staff some extra time during the
summer to spend with their families and enjoy the warmer
days. Regular office hours will resume after Labor Day.
We are very grateful to Laura Wind who gathered
her Girl Scout Troop #732 together on Monday evening
and planted geraniums and marigolds in the gardens
around the rectory and church. They did a real nice job and
we all are looking forward to the beautiful burst of color
that will follow shortly.
By the way, we purchased most of our flowers
from Joe Jedrzejek who is a member of our parish staff.
Joe has a greenhouse at 8600 County Road in East Am-
herst. He still has a nice selection of flowers, so, if you are
looking for some flowers for your garden, you may want
to stop by and take a look.
I also welcome and congratulate three new mem-
bers to the Parish Council. They are: Paul Hufnagle, Bill
Provost and Lori Sebian. Inasmuch as there were three
people going off the council and three people expressed an
interest to be on the council, we accepted their names for
nomination, closed the nomination and voted to accept
these three new members.
Thanks to Dan Egan there are always plenty of
rosaries available in the back of the church for you to take
and give away. If you have rosaries at home that have seen
better days, Dan will be glad to take them and make them
like new again. This is a wonderful ministry and the Holy
Rosary is a wonderful prayer. There is no better way to get
through a day than by meditating on the Mysteries of the
Holy Rosary. It contains blessings beyond our imagining.
Remember to pray especially for world peace. Our Blessed
Lady, especially under the title of Our Lady of Peace, has
the power to change the world.
Your financial support at this time is very critical.
Please continue to support the parish collection and our
Building Fund Collection. Traditionally our summer col-
lections are a bit lower; so, please, if you can, try to make
up for what you have missed.
This summer the Holy Name Society has agreed to
paint the exterior trim of the church and we are accepting
bids to paint and caulk the windows on the rectory. Much
of the trim is aluminum; but, the Anderson casement win-
dows need to be scraped, caulked and painted.
Have a Blessed Week,
Fr. Tom

Catholic Charities
Catholic Charities is committed to helping
families achieve stability. In several coun-
ties of the diocese, Catholic Charities of-
fers an intensive, 24-hour, family focused
intervention program called Multisystemic Therapy.
The program works to empower parents and enrich
families while diverting court involvement and pre-
venting placement of children or adolescents outside
the home. For information call (716) 204-0555 or go
to www.ccwny.org.
American Red Cross
Our Annual American Red Cross Blood Drive will be
held on Thursday, July 16, 2009 from 1-7:00 pm in our
parish center. If you’d like to donate the gift of life,
give Sr. Barbara a call at the rectory weekdays and
she’ll set an appointment up for you. You will also
find sign up sheets at all the church entrances.
A Vocation View…
God the Father, Creator. God
the Son, Redeemer. God the
Holy Spirit, Sanctifier. When
we “go out to make disciples of
all nations” we have a lot to tell. God is present every-
where. Would you be willing to proclaim the truth of
God’s love and presence in your life as a priest or reli-
gious? If you are willing to answer God’s call, call Fr.
Walter Szczesny at 847-5535 or go to
www.buffalovocations.org.
Father’s Day Memorial Donations
Father’s Day Mass Intention cards are avail-
able today at all the church entrances. Please print your Father’s name/s clearly
on the envelope and your donations will be used throughout the year for Father’s Day Intentions Masses.
Love, Laughs & Lucy Tour
If you’re joining us for this tour,
please remember that you need to ar-
rive at our parish center by 7:45 am
this Wednesday morning, June 10th,
so that we can board our chartered
motor coach and leave on time.
We’ll arrive back at OLP at approximately 6:00 pm.
Next weekend’s sec-
ond collection is for
the Catholic Commu-
nication Campaign
(CCC). Through your
generous donations,
CCC is able to spread the gospel message in our com-
munity and all over the world. CCC funds the devel-
opment of traditional and new media programs that
inspire and minister to their audiences. Half of the
collection from our diocese stays here to support local
communication efforts, while the other half supports
national Catholic media initiatives. Please give gen-
erously to next weekend’s Catholic Communication
Campaign collection.

“True encounter with Christ in the word of God
awakens something in the depth of our being,
something we did not know was there.”
Thomas Merton
Begin your own “true encounter with Christ in the
word of God” by enrolling in the Catholic Biblical
Studies Program. Each September, individuals like
you begin this serious Bible study. It takes them on a
spiritual journey they did not know was possible.

Park, at St. Stephen’s in Grand Island, and at SS. Pe-
ter and Paul in Williamsville beginning in September.
Evening and morning classes are offered. Flyers are
available in the main church entrance and in the nar-
thex today. For further information call Mark Mor-
gante at 759-0058, or call 871-9180 or go to

Marriage Moment
Divorced men and women can teach married couples a
lot. Often they tell of taking their marriage for granted
or being too busy making a living to live their voca-
tion. Let their pain not be in vain. Pray for these men
and women as a couple. They, like you, are trying to
do the best they can often under very difficult circum-
stances.
Can You Help?
This summer we once again have
the opportunity to help children
from one of the poorest sections of
the City of Buffalo, the East Side.
Sister Simon is once again work-
ing within St. Katharine Drexel
Parish to bring Vacation Bible
School to needy children the first
week in August. The cost to run
the summer Bible program is approximately $25 per
child. Each child will receive materials, craft supplies,
snacks and will take part in a closing prayer service
and picnic. If you are interested in sponsoring a child,
please call Liz or Ann in the office and we will be able
to assist you. Checks should be made out to St.
Katharine Drexel and you can drop your donation in
the collection basket in an envelope marked “Sister
Simon’s Vacation Bible School”. Thank you in ad-
vance for considering your donation to these needy
children.
Mission Co-op Speaker
The weekend of June 20/21, 2009 we will have a guest
celebrant from the Missionaries of Our Lady of La
Salette who will preach our annual Mission Co-op Ap-
peal. The Missionaries of Our Lady of La Salette min-
ister to people of every race, language, culture and way
of life. Our Blessed Mother appeared at what is now
the La Salette Shrine in France in 1846 where her final
words, “Well, my children, you will make this known
to all my people,” echo Jesus’ Gospel mandate. When
called upon by the Vatican to preach the Gospel in for-
eign lands, the La Salette Congregation eagerly re-
sponded. They are in 27 countries, especially among
the poor in Angola, Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, India,
Madagascar, Myanmar and the Philippines. With our
cooperation, they will continue to provide spiritual and
financial assistance to these mission countries as they
bring God’s reconciling message to the poor. You will
find a yellow envelope labeled Mission Co-op in your
newest packet of envelopes. This can be dropped in
the collection basket any time now to be used for this
special collection.
Corn Roast & Cash Raffle
The corn is planted and it’s time to save August 22nd
for the Holy Name’s Annual Parish Corn Roast and
Cash Raffle. Purchase your $20.00 raffle tickets from
Holy Name members at the church entrances & nar-
thex and be eligible for the $200.00 Early Bird Draw
