PARISH MEMBERSHIP
Welcome! Every Catholic should be registered in the Parish. Letters of testimony for Godparents and Sponsors cannot be given unless one is registered. All
parishioners should be active in parish life and be known to one of the Parish Priests. Stewardship (church support) is a serious responsibility of every Catholic. We urge all parishioners to make regular use of their collection envelopes. When moving,
notify the Parish office.
OUR LADY OF SORROWS MISSION STATEMENT We are Catholic Christians of Our Lady of Sorrows Parish who are conscious of the
plan of God for the salvation of all. We praise the Lord in our everyday lives by sharing our faith and talents with each other for the continued growth of Our Lady of Sorrows Parish Community. We wish to live the Beatitudes of Jesus and put them
into practice in our daily lives as we answer His call to evangelization.
The Sign of the Cross
In the name of the Father, use my mind to bring you honor, and of the Son, fill my heart to spread your word, and of the Holy Spirit, strengthen me to carry you out to all the world. Amen.

Gay Marriage
Supreme Court Decision on Marriage “A Tragic Error” Says President of Catholic Bishops’ Conference Regardless of what a narrow majority of the Supreme Court may declare at this moment in history, the nature of the human person and marriage remains unchanged and unchangeable. Just as Roe v. Wade did not settle the ques-tion of abortion over forty years ago, Obergefell v. Hodges does not settle the question of marriage today. Neither de-cision is rooted in the truth, and as a result, both will even-tually fail. Today the Court is wrong again. It is profoundly immoral and unjust for the government to declare that two people of the same sex can constitute a marriage. The unique meaning of marriage as the union of one man and one woman is inscribed in our bodies as male and fe-male. The protection of this meaning is a critical dimension of the “integral ecology” that Pope Francis has called us to promote. Mandating marriage redefinition across the coun-try is a tragic error that harms the common good and most vulnerable among us, especially children. The law has a duty to support every child’s basic right to be raised, where possible, by his or her married mother and father in a stable home. Jesus Christ, with great love, taught unambiguously that from the beginning marriage is the lifelong union of one man and one woman. As Catholic bishops, we follow our Lord and will continue to teach and to act according to this truth. I encourage Catholics to move forward with faith, hope, and love: faith in the unchanging truth about marriage, rooted in the immutable nature of the human person and confirmed by divine revelation; hope that these truths will once again prevail in our society, not only by their logic, but by their great beauty and manifest service to the com-mon good; and love for all our neighbors, even those who hate us or would punish us for our faith and moral convic-tions. Lastly, I call upon all people of good will to join us in pro-claiming the goodness, truth, and beauty of marriage as rightly understood for millennia, and I ask all in positions of power and authority to respect the God-given freedom to seek, live by, and bear witness to the truth.
………..~Archbishop Joseph E. Kurtz, President of U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops
Discovering Christ What is Discovering Christ? Discovering Christ is a seven-week spiritual renewal program where members of a par-ish can bring their family, friends, or other guests to hear the Good News and personally encounter Jesus Christ in life-changing ways. Each session includes a meal, a brief time of worship, a teaching, and a small group discussion. The high point of the program is a day retreat (held at Our Lady of Sorrows) where participants have the opportunity to make a personal commitment to Christ and be renewed in the Holy Spirit. We began to form our team in February and continue to meet in preparation for our Discovering Christ program. We are excited about this program and are happy that many of our parishioners have volunteered to be a part of this effort. We could use a few additional volunteers to help as this program includes a dinner, small group discus-sions, speakers, etc. However, more importantly, we need your attendance to ensure a successful outcome. This is a great opportunity to meet and connect to your fellow pa-rishioners; to get to know your names and not just your faces. We greet each other at Mass but wouldn’t it be much nicer to be able to speak your name when greeting you? We are beginning to accept registrations so we can better prepare for the number of people attending. Registration forms and Invite cards are available in the vestibule and side entrances of the church. Please take one and consider joining us. Use the invite cards to give to a friend or some-one you might know who has been away from church for a while. They don’t have to be a parishioner as all are wel-come. Best of all, the program is free!! Registration forms should be submitted by September 18th.

The Eucharist, Vast Depths of Love Reflections from the Saints on God’s Great Gift to Us
of the Eucharist Holy Communion is the shortest and safest way to heaven. There are others: innocence, but that is for children; pen-ance, but we are afraid of it; generous endurance for the trials of life, but when they come we weep and ask to be spared. The surest, easiest, shortest way is the Eucharist. —St. Pius X
