Encountering & Sharing

God’s Mercy

Fr. Stephen Wilbricht, CSC, will join us the weekend of January 30 and 31 as we enter more deeply

into the Year of Mercy. His booklet, “His Mercy Endures Forever,” can be found in the church pews for

you to take home and read before his sessions. He will give the homily at all masses and give a presen-

tation after all liturgies. After the 4:30 pm and 10;45 am liturgies, we will enjoy a light meal in fellow-

ship and then engage with Fr. Wilbricht, CSC, in an interactive presentation on Encountering and

Sharing God’s Mercy. He will give a briefer version of his presentation at the Sunday Coffee Hour also.

Set aside time for renewal by registering today! Sign up using the forms in the pews and then putting

them in the collection basket or bringing them to the rectory. You can also sign up by contacting Lynn

at [email protected] or 781-784-2265 , via our website, olossharon.org, OR by QR code below.

Thank you from Chris:

On Saturday evening, I was honored by the parishioners and staff of Our Lady of Sorrows Parish. The

evening began with Fr. Frank Clooney celebrating the 4:30 Mass during which he gave me a special

blessing. My retirement party followed Mass in O’Connell Hall. I was overwhelmed by the many people

who came, along with my family, and the uniqueness of the party. The theme was the shore and the hall

was decorated beautifully with beach chairs, beach hats, sunglasses, beach balls, as well as a beautiful

banner. So much work went into the party and I want to thank everyone who participated either by

working or attending the party. Special thanks go to Fabiola Aguilera and all her helpers who made the

party the huge success it was and to Paula St. Pierre (Ginny Devlin’s daughter) for the beautiful cake she

made complete with palm trees, shells, turtles, orchids, and sand. Thank you everyone for a memorable

send-off.

Christmas Flower Memorial

Donations Thank you to everyone who contributed to our Christmas flowers in the name of a friend or loved

one. $1,662 was collected from parishioners for flowers in memory of or to honor their loved ones. In addition to the names that were printed in the previous bulletins, please pray for these additional individuals:

In Honor of Joan & Gus Spano

Collection – January 3rd, 2016

The average cost to run the parish is $9,500 per week and our expectation is that 70% ($6,700 will come from the weekly offertory. On January 3rd, the parishioners contributed $5,952.

Annual Collection

The Annual Collection is under way. The Annual Collection is an important source of funding for the parish's many expenses, including salaries for our talented staff as well as property utilities and maintenance costs. We ask for your prayerful consideration to assist us in meeting our goal of raising $73,000. To date, $48,605 has been contributed to the Annual Collection from 149 parishioners. Thank you for your generosity.

Special Collection January 17th will be a Special Collection for Catholic Elementary Schools

This campaign is building the future of Catholic education with a new sustainable model for Catholic education in Greater Boston. Our schools provide children with rigorous academics, mission-driven teachers, modern classrooms, and most important, the opportunity to succeed. Providing families with real school choice, we are raising critical funding to rebuild effective Catholic schools in neighborhoods where need and demand is greatest.

From Senior Deacon Mike:

We have concluded the Christmas season for cycle “C” in the year 2016. We begin the second week in Ordinary time with a familiar story of Jesus min-gling with people accompanied by his mother. They are quests at a wedding

and the ordinary aspects of a wedding reception ac-crue. During the joy and celebration, his mother notices that they are lacking in sufficient wine as to hinder the gai-ety. Jesus declines to respond. But, Mary steps up and alerts the attendants to follow Jesus in his reactions. The consequent miracle of water transformed to wine is a testimony to the power and compassion if Jesus to intercede in the ordinary with extraordinary results.

Did you know that approximately 22,000 students attend 79 Catholic elementary schools in the Archdiocese of Boston?

The Archdiocese of Boston is holding a special second collection during the weekend of January 16-17. The purpose of this collection is to help Catholic elementary schools in our Archdiocese assist more families with demonstrated financial need and to help grow enrollment. If your parish is associated with a school, your school will receive 50% of the funds collected at your parish. The remaining funds will be distributed to other schools in the Archdiocese of Boston.

In our Archdiocese:

96% of Catholic school students matriculate to college

Catholic elementary school students score well above average on national assessments

Studies show that Catholic school students are:

Academically more confident with greater proficiency in writing and public speaking

Attending Mass more frequently

More tolerant of diverse views

More engaged in their communities and more likely to volunteer
