With Hands to Serve and Hearts to Love
NOTE FROM OUR PRINCIPAL Today, our 8
th graders participated in Eighth Grade Exit Interviews. In answering their questions, they demonstrated to
panelists how they met our Schoolwide Learning Expectations throughout their years here. We pray for our 8th graders as

Great job and congratulations! OLA Golf Team: Congratulations for ending a very successful 2015 Campaign with a 2nd Place finish in the PAL Championships. OLA finished the regular season undefeated in match play and faced very windy conditions at Haggin Oaks but were edged out by St. Michaels. Coleman Dupre led the team with a 38 and Jack Deaner followed with a 39. We have a great group of kids and wonderful parents, who are so proud of our Team. Thank You, from Coach Scott Gordon, and thank you TO Coach Gordon for his time and commitment to the team!
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Giddy on up to the Country Fair THIS Friday and Saturday! You don’t want to miss this event – and you definitely don’t want to miss our PK-5 graders singing to open the fair at 5PM on Friday! More information on all the food, games, fun, and activities (including favorites like OLA Has Talent, the basketball contest, the raffles, and the yummy menus from Drewski’s and Chando’s) as well as info on last minute needs to make our fair a success (just a hint: bottled water will be on there) are attached to this bulletin. For questions, please contact Nadia Leslie [email protected] or Yvette Gordon at [email protected]. See you there! COUNTRY FAIR T-SHIRTS: This year's amazing OLA Country Fair shirts will be delivered to the classrooms on Thursday, May 14
th for those families that pre-ordered them. Shirts will also be sold in the Walnut and Cottage lots after
school on Thursday afternoon and before school on Friday morning. Please see the picture on the attached flyer. If you have any questions, please contact Christy King at [email protected]. Country Fair Service Hours: Please remember that each family is required to work 8 hours minimum for the Fair (5 for preschool families). Any additional hours worked can count toward your total yearly family 2014-15 hours. If, for some reason, you are unavailable on these dates (and sporting events do not count), please contact Michelle Munn [email protected] regarding your availability. There are very limited pre-fair hours available on a first come, first serve basis. All pre-fair hours must be pre-approved through Michelle. Thank you for your service, and we look forward to seeing you at the Fair!!

st - last day to buy Scrip: You have a few more weeks to buy Scrip. Are you going on any vacations this summer?
We now have Scrip for Delta Air Lines. Going to Disney Land? Buy some Disney Scrip. Are you having any end of the year parties? Then, pick up some Scrip. There are so many opportunities to buy Scrip and support our school. You are going to spend the money anyway, so why not plan ahead and buy Scrip. You can now do it at home with shopwithscrip.com. It is so easy! I purchase online, and it is sent home with my son the next day. Christian Meditation Group: In an age of rush and noise, it is essential that we find time to be still and quiet. “Be still and know that I am God,” says the Psalmist. In this prayer of silence called Christian Meditation we find God who dwells in our own heart. And, in finding Him, we find our own selves and thus, are renewed. A Christian Mediation Group regularly meets Mondays at 7:30pm in our School Library. Please call Fran at 488-4229 to learn more about this program.
SPORTS OLA is looking for a new Little Dribbler Coordinator: This would include Little Dribbler pre-season meeting, assisting with practice schedule, etc. Please contact Ms. Wright ([email protected]) if you are interested.
PARISH NEWS Christian Meditation Group: Mondays, at 7:30pm, in our School Library. Details in the “Additional Information” section
SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES Hot lunch help is needed: Please take a look at the hot lunch volunteer schedule. We have a number of open slots available. If you have any questions about volunteering, contact Colene Crowley at [email protected].
OUR VIRTUE OF THE WEEK: GENTLENESS Gentleness is one of the Fruits of the Holy Spirit that makes us both humble and thankful for God’s grace, and willing to resist judging, resenting, or doing harm to others. Scripture Reference—Matthew 11:29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart. . . “Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the land.” (Matthew 5:5) Of all the Beatitudes, the call to meekness can be the most puzzling. In a world where self-sufficiency is seen as a virtue, the idea of choosing meekness sounds both naïve and foolish. Its synonym – “gentleness” – is often regarded in much the same light. A biblical perspective of gentleness, however, recognizes its accompanying wisdom and strength of character. For Saint Paul, it was part of stripping away the old self in order to take on new life in Christ (Colossians 3:0-11). Choosing to embrace humility, to put aside arrogance, and to be kind and open to others are not the actions of the weak and gutless. Each choice requires strength, courage, and endurance. Thus, the gentle-hearted inherit the earth as not only a reward for their loving nature, but also because they are the ones best suited for tending the landscape of the human heart. Gentleness in Action: “Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28) When struggling under a heavy load of sadness and struggle, these gentle words of Jesus are balm to the soul. Reflect on the burdens you are carrying. How might you rest easy in the gentleness of Jesus? Prayer: Lord Jesus, help me to follow your way of gentleness by being kind, gracious, and open-hearted. Amen.

Join the O.L.A.
Summer Reading Club
Students who are entering grades 1-8 are invited to
take part in this fun program. Students will select books
appropriate to their reading levels and keep a log of
pages read on a simple chart for 5 of the weeks of
summer. Students who meet reading goals for their
grade will be invited to a special fall pizza and movie
party to celebrate their accomplishments. Top students
in each grade will be eligible for prizes. It is as simple as
that!
Summer Reading Guide
Make copies of the Summer Reading Log Form (attached) This will be the form you use to track the pages you have read. We hope you will read
and enjoy all summer, but just submit forms for 5 weeks.
Choose a book that is appropriate for your reading level. Books should be challenging, yet enjoyable.
Keep track of pages read. At the end of each day’s reading write down the number of pages read and the title of the
book. At the end of the week, total the pages read, and compare them to the goal for your
grade. Be sure to answer the question at the bottom of the page each week. Reading
goals were selected by your teachers, and are as follows:
Entering 1st Grade—15 pages per week
Entering 2nd
Grade—25 pages per week
Entering 3rd
Grade—50 pages per week
Entering 4th
Grade—75 pages per week
Entering 5th
Grade—100 pages per week
Entering 6th
Grade—125 pages per week
Entering 7th
or 8th
–150 pages per week
If students in the lower grades need help filling in the form, parents are more than
welcome to lend a hand. Students should take as much responsibility for the
process as possible.
Get your parents to sign your form. When you record the number of pages read, get your parents to sign your form.
Collect your forms for 5 weeks and bring them to school the
first week
Attend the Summer Reading Celebration During the First
Month of School!
If you have met your reading goals and have returned the completed form, then all
you have to do is show up. We will have a pizza party lunch featuring prizes and
great food. The party will occur during the first month of school in the library.
The date of the party is T.B.D.
