CALENDARThis Week at Holy Souls . . .

Mary, Undoer of KnotsThe devotion to Mary, Undoer of Knots, dates back to 17thcentury Germany, when a couple on the verge of separationsought help from a priest who was known for his strongMarian devotion. The priest beganto ask for Mary’s intercession to“untie the knots” in theirrelationship, and peace wasrestored to their marriage. In 1980,Jorge Mario Bergoglio (who laterbecame Pope Francis), discoveredthis devotion to Mary which he stillpromotes to this day.

Mary, Undoer of Knots, straightensout the ribbon of our lives anddirects us on a straight path toJesus, her son. The Blessed Virgin helps us loosen theknots that suffocate relationships between married couples, parents, their children, our neighbors, and most importantly, with Jesus Christ.

We at Holy Souls’ now have our very own Mary, Undoer ofKnots, the display in the southeast corner of the sanctuary. We invite you to take a look at the knots that weigh on yourheart. Write your prayers or “knots” onto the strips of paperyou will find by the display and tie them onto the framesand entrust them to Mary’s intercession. When your prayeris answered, you may tie a special blue ribbon on the panel.

“Whoever obeys and teachesthese commandments will be calledgreatest in the Kingdom of heaven”

Matthew 5:19.

We carry the message of God’s love by the way we live. Ican make a difference in my world if I’m willing, in simpleways, to serve. There are countless ways to serve, fromwelcoming a visitor to washing the dishes, from listeningattentively, to doing my job cheerfully. Service always has aripple effect. One person serves: soon others are inspired toserve. Service builds up the entire community. Servicerestores people’s faith in themselves and in God. One act ofgenerous service can make all the difference. We might neversee the direct effect of the generous action. But each act ofservice will make a difference somewhere, somehow.

An excerpt from Living with Christ

When we take the time to reach out and help others we aredoing what God wants us to do. It doesn’t have to be lifealtering or earth shattering but it needs to be something.Going about our life as if we are the only one in the world, asif we and our family are the only ones that matter isn’t healthyfor our faith life. Our faith demands that we serve others.Jesus gave us personal examples of how to do this. Wewould do well to follow him. In this excerpt above the writertalks about service as a way of life. We live to serve, we area people of service. We can make a difference, no matterhow small or how large, we must make a difference, eachone of us. We may never see the results of our action, butsomeone, somewhere will. We just need to make that stepand serve others and serve God at the same time. Don’t siton the sidelines, do something.
