OUR LADY OF THE LAKE CHURCH 1 Park Avenue Mt. Arlington, NJ. 07856

Dear Parishioners, May 23-24th

The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted those living in poverty the most and Catholic Charities, Diocese of Paterson's 3 Food Pantries (Father English Center, Paterson; Hope House, Dover; and Partnership for Social Services, Franklin) are giving out more food than ever before. Most months, Catholic Charities, Diocese of Paterson gives out food to 5,000 - 7,000 people at their 3 food pantries. In April of 2020, this number practically doubled, as they helped over 11,000 individuals who are feeling the direct economic impact of COVID-19. Bishop Serratelli has authorized a Catholic Charities Diocesan-wide food collection in all parishes. This year, the drive has gone virtual, and you can shop online and have items directly shipped to Catholic Charities Food Pantries.

Visit www.ccpaterson.org/corpus for more information and visit www.yougivegoods.com/ccpaterson-fooddrive2020 to find our parish, and shop for our pantries in need. You may also email: [email protected] or call (973) 737-2077 ext.403 with any questions or to donate food directly to Catholic Charities Food Pantries.

Due to the mandate of the Bishop, “all public Masses are hereby suspended in the Diocese of Paterson until further notice.”

This letter is also being sent to appeal to your generous nature and ask you to support our parish and make consistent weekly contributions at this time. One way is to participate in our online giving program. First visit our website: https://ollmtarlington.org and click Give Online

https://ollmtarlington.weshareonline.org/. Set up your account. Choose a payment option and customize your donation. You can use your debit card, credit card, checking or savings account. Another option is to use your Online Banking to make electronic contributions through “bill paying” options in your personal bank account. Your bank will then print and mail checks to the parish. You can also mail your envelopes to Our Lady of the Lake, 1 Park Avenue, Mt. Arlington, NJ 07856.

Hoping this letter finds you and your family in good health and good spirit. We will all be praying that this virus will run its course in the near future. We will keep in touch with any updated information as we are able by posting on the https://ollmtarlington.org website.

April, 2020

Dear Brothers and Sisters:

Pope Francis has accepted the resignation of Bishop Arthur J. Serratelli from the pastoral governance of the Diocese of Paterson and has named Father Kevin Sweeney, a priest of the Diocese of Brooklyn as Bishop-elect of Paterson. He will become the Diocese of Paterson’s eighth Bishop.

Bishop-elect Sweeney was born on Jan. 17, 1970 in Elmhurst, Queens and grew up in Whitestone, Queens. His parents, the late James P. Sweeney and the late Agnes Blewitt were both born and raised in County Mayo, Ireland. Bishop-Elect Sweeney was ordained a priest on June 28, 1997. He continues to serve as Pastor of St. Michael Parish in Sunset Park, Brooklyn.

The date of Bishop-elect Sweeney’s episcopal ordination as the eighth Bishop of the Diocese of Paterson has not been scheduled due to the pandemic. Bishop Serratelli will serve as Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese of Paterson until that time.

Dear Parishioners,

We are facing terrible dark days, but we should not lose our hope that this period will come to an end and we will return to our normal life. The light always defeats the darkness and good overcomes evil.

Use your free time that you have at home to deepen your relationship with the Lord and trust Him that He will do the best for you and supply all your needs.

I am praying for you. Fr. Paul

The Mass is celebrated by me every day and I will use the Mass Intentions as they were scheduled in the Mass Book. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to call the Parish Office. 973-398-0240/ e:[email protected]/ Fr. Paul

GOD’S PLAN FOR GIVING / WE ARE A TITHING PARISH Tithing is a symbol of how God calls us to live our lives as stewards. In good times, tithing helps you remember that God is the source of all blessings, and it allows you to demonstrate your gratitude for His care. In hard times, tithing motivates you to remember God’s faithfulness, and it enables you to demonstrate trust in God to provide for all of your needs. Tithing is defined as one-tenth of your income.

A FRESH PERSPECTIVE ON THE SUNDAY READINGS HIS WORD TODAY by Rev. William J. Reilly

Seventh Sunday of Easter or The Ascension of the Lord May 24, 2020

“After Jesus had been taken up into heaven the apostles returned to Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet which is near to Jerusalem…they went to the upper room where they were staying. All these devoted themselves with one accord to prayer, together with some women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and his brothers.”

Before we take leave of the month of May, dedicated to mothers, and our mother Mary, may I find a moment to look at this first community, united with her in prayer. Her last words in the bible, spoken at the Cana wedding, ‘Do whatever he tells you’ is reflected in her life and directed to our living as disciples.

How blessed we are to have her known and loved, with many traditions in our cultures, our art and devotion. Jesus gave her to us as our Mother before He breathed His last. Like the apostle John, may we take her into our homes, our hearts, for she is the gift that Jesus gave us.

PENTECOST SUNDAY First Reading: Acts 2:1-11 On the feast of Pentecost, the disciples were gathered together when suddenly tongues of fire rested upon them, and they were filled with the Holy Spirit. They began to speak in many tongues; those who heard them were filled with amazement. Second Reading: 1 Corinthians 12:3b-7, 12-13 Paul tells the Corinthians that each possesses different gifts and performs different ministries, but each works for the common good in Christ Jesus.

Gospel: John 20:19-23 Jesus appears to the apostles after his resurrection and bestows upon them the power to forgive sins.
