I read this very beautiful reflection about Jesus’ transfiguration in relationship to the seven sacraments from the homily of a priest. According to him that transfiguration or transformation can occur to us through the sacra- ments too: The Sacrament of Initiation: Baptism is the very beginning of our transformation. As we become members of the Christian community we are anointed Priest, Prophet and King. Through Baptism, we mysteriously and miraculously put on Christ and we become “Christ Like.” The Sacrament of Confirmation transforms us and calls us to renew our Baptismal promise. Confirmation instills in us the power of the Holy Spirit. Confirmation strengthens us to defend the message of the Gospel. The Gifts of the Holy Spirit – Wisdom, Understanding, Counsel, Fortitude, Knowledge, Piety and Fear of the Lord – give us the tools to spread the message of Jesus. Through the Sacrament of Holy Communion or Eucharist , we are transformed and refreshed. When we receive Jesus in the Eucharist, we are refreshed in the likeness of Christ. Eucharist enables us to take what we hear in the Gospel and carry that message out into the world, to the people we work with, to the people we meet at the malls, and especially to the people we live with. The Sacrament of Healing: the Sacrament of Penance or Reconciliation transforms us from a state of sin to a state of holiness with Christ. The Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick transforms us and strengthens us when we are ill. The Sacrament gives us grace. It gives us peace and courage to overcome the difficulties that may go with serious illness or the frailty of old age. This grace is a gift of the Holy Spirit, renewing our trust in God and strengthening us against the temptations of evil. The Sacrament of Commitment: the Sacrament of Ordination transforms a man from laity into the Order of Deacon, Priest or Bishop. Through Ordination an ordinary man becomes extraordinary. Ordination ena- bles a Priest to celebrate the Eucharist. Through Ordination, an ordinary man becomes extraordinary. The priest is given the extraordinary power to forgive sins. The priest is given the extraordinary power to change bread and wine into the body and blood of Jesus Christ. Through Ordination this ordinary man is transformed and takes on the powers of Christ in our midst. The Sacrament of Matrimony transforms two totally individual people into a union of one. Matrimony is not only a union of man and wife, but it is more importantly a union of the couple with Almighty God. Matrimony is a triune relationship. It transforms a man and a woman with God as the center of a holy and a sacramental rela- tionship. The Sacrament of Marriage can infuse grace into the lives of the couple daily. Most of the time when we receive the sacraments and the grace that accompanies them, we are unaware of that transforming power of the sacraments. We are unaware of that power, much like the three apostles were una- ware of what was taking place when Jesus took them to the mountaintop to witness His Transfiguration. Transfiguration means beyond figuration or physical appearance. In other words, transfiguration happens within our hearts and minds. I read this very beautiful reflection about Jesus’ transfiguration in relationship to the seven sacraments from the homily of a priest. According to him that transfiguration or transformation can occur to us through the sacra-ments too:

The Sacrament of Initiation: Baptism is the very beginning of our transformation. As we become members of the Christian community we are anointed Priest, Prophet and King. Through Baptism, we mysteriously and miraculously put on Christ and we become “Christ Like.”

The Sacrament of Confirmation transforms us and calls us to renew our Baptismal promise.

Through the Sacrament of Holy Communion or Eucharist, we are transformed and refreshed.

Ordination ena-bles a Priest to celebrate the Eucharist.

It transforms a man and a woman with God as the center of a holy and a sacramental rela-tionship. The Sacrament of Marriage can infuse grace into the lives of the couple daily. Most of the time when we receive the sacraments and the grace that accompanies them, we are unaware of that transforming power of the sacraments. We are unaware of that power, much like the three apostles were una-ware of what was taking place when Jesus took them to the mountaintop to witness His Transfiguration. Transfiguration means beyond figuration or physical appearance. In other words, transfiguration happens within our hearts and minds. Deacon Tim

When you give to the Catholic Ministries Appeal, you are really

giving to the eager children hungry to learn about the faith of

their parents and generations of Catholics. You are giving to the

dedicated young seminarian learning to serve God and the

Church, or the older priest who has served faithfully and needs

retirement support.

You are giving to help the Vatican in its work in the world and to

the bishops for ministries that span our nation. Your money goes

to help the vital work of Catholic Charities, to families just like

yours whose faith sees them through the ever-growing stress of

life.

And you give “locally” - more than half of every dollar raised

returns to your parish in the form of services and programming

that your parish would have a difficult time providing on its own.

All funds raised in the CMA are only used for the programs, services and ministries for which they are designated. No gifts to the CMA are used to satisfy legal fee or costs associated with abuse.

Counters needed at all Our Lady of the Lakes sites.

Would you be available to donate some of your time after Sunday Mass? For further information please contact the Parish office.

Meet Trinh Trinh’s family are farmers in Vietnam who have been affected by climate change. What would you do if your source of nutrition was threatened? How can we support those whose liveli-hoods are vulnerable to

weather? Visit crsricebowl.org for more. .

“The Diocese of Rochester was deeply saddened to learn that Bishop Matthew H. Clark, our Bishop Emeritus, has been diagnosed with early-stage Alz-heimer’s disease. We ask that

the faithful pray for Bishop Clark and for all those who suffer with Alzheimer’s, for their caregivers, and for all those medical professionals and organizations working to enhance care and treatment. Bishop Clark hopes to continue his ministry in the diocese.”

OLOL's Social Ministry Team asks you to remem-ber and support those in our surrounding community and their daily needs. Cleaning out closets? remember the Once Again shop in Penn Yan and The Friendship House and Naples' Open Closet. A special request has been made of the St. Patrick's family to assist with laundry expenses for subsi-dized housing residents in the area. Tide laundry pods will help those with few resources care for what they own. Due to cuts have been made to the SNAP benefit (food stamp) program our local food pantries now require more support in goods and volunteers. Thank you for your commitment to our worship community and to working miracles in the lives of others!

How can the spread of the influenza virus be pre-vented? If you are sick, do not worsen your illness by trying to get to

church, and do not put others at risk of catching your illness. It is not sinful to miss Mass if you are sick; it is an act of chari-ty. If your children are sick, keep them home from Mass, reli-gious education, or youth ministry meetings. Don’t cough or sneeze into your hands. Use a tissue to cover your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze, then throw it away. If you don’t have a tissue handy, cough or sneeze into your shirt sleeve and avoid touching the area of fabric you coughed into.

Wash your hands often. Soap, water, and a good scrubbing are the best defense against the cold and flu viruses. Scrub your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If you are not near soap and water, use an alcohol-based hand sani-tizer or disposable hand wipe. Keep a small bottle or packet in your purse or pocket.

Avoid shaking hands with others before, during, and after Mass if you are sick or have been in direct contact with some-one who sick. At the Sign of Peace, offer a smile or a wave or a simple bow of the head to those around you. Respect should be given to individuals who refrain from sharing a handshake at the Sign of Peace. This is at the discretion of each individual person.

Refrain from receiving Communion on the tongue or from the Cup if you are sick. The sign of Communion is more complete when receiving under both kinds, but receiving both is not required.

Volunteers needed to serve at Lenten Lunch on March 26 as it’s OLOL St Michael’s turn .
