September 10, 2017 First reading: Ezekiel 33:7-9 Second reading: Romans 13:8-10 Gospel: Matthew 18:15-20 A reading from the book of the Prophet Ezekiel Thus says the LORD: You, son of man, I have appointed watchman for the house of Israel; when you hear me say anything, you shall warn them for me. If I tell the wicked, "O wicked one, you shall surely die," and you do not speak out to dissuade the wicked from his way, the wicked shall die for his guilt, but I will hold you responsible for his death. But if you warn the wicked, trying to turn him from his way, and he refuses to turn from his way, he shall die for his guilt, but you shall save yourself. A reading from the Letter of Saint Paul to the Romans Brothers and sisters: Owe nothing to anyone, except to love one another; for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law. The commandments, "You shall not commit adultery; you shall not kill; you shall not steal; you shall not covet," and whatever other commandment there may be, are summed up in this saying, namely, "You shall love your neighbor as yourself." Love does no evil to the neighbor; hence, love is the fulfillment of the law. A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew Jesus said to his disciples: "If your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault between you and him alone. If he listens to you, you have won over your brother. If he does not listen, take one or two others along with you, so that 'every fact may be established on the testimony of two or three witnesses.' If he refuses to listen to them, tell the church. If he refuses to listen even to the church, then treat him as you would a Gentile or a tax collector. Amen, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. Again, amen, I say to you, if two of you agree on earth about anything for which they are to pray, it shall be granted to them by my heavenly Father. For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them."

YOUTH CONFIRMATION

INFANT BAPTISM (Under seven years old) Our next Baptism Class will be October 1st- English and 8 de Octubre -Spanish. Please bring your child’s Birth Certificate and $50.00 donation to the Rectory Office to register for the preparation class for Parents and Godparents. This should be done three months before the desired date of baptism. Baptism dates are as follows: English, August 20th, September 17th, October 15th and November 19th. (No Baptisms in December.) Religious Education Office Twenty-Second Sunday in Ordinary Time September 3, 2017 Sunday’s Gospel, Matthew 16:21-27, Reflecting in God’s Word Like most parents, we try to protect our children from life's crushing blows, or at least hold them off as long as possible. It hurts us to see our children suffer disappointments, rejections. losses or defeats. Sometimes the easier choice is the one that goes unnoticed. For example, a teen pregnancy that ends in abortion receives less attention than carrying the baby full term. Or not trying out for the position of pitcher is easier than having fans watch five walks in a row. Our children need our presence and support when they make the hard choices. We know from our own lives that they will grow their experiences. Bringing the Gospel Into your Family Think of someone your family knows personally (or someone you've heard about) who may be feeling lonely because they made a tough choice. Maybe they are recovering from addiction, raising a baby alone, or left a difficult relationship. Reach out to that person as a family either by visiting them, inviting them to dinner, sending them a card, or writing a letter. Help support them in their tough decision. Question of the Week Children: When has it been hard to be a follower of Jesus? Adults: What has it meant to you to take up your cross and follow Jesus? Youth Confirmation Our Youth Confirmation program is for high school students. It is a two-year journey involving faith formation classes, retreats and community service hours leading to the gifts of the holy spirit and the Sacrament of Confirmation.

Registration for Year 1 and Year 2 has begun and will be ongoing for the next few weeks.

First Class for Year 1 is September 10, 2017 at 3:45 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in Watterson Hall.
