The Catholic Church is the Church founded by Jesus Christ; it is the same Church mentioned in the New Testament of the Christian Bible. The term "Catholic" means "according to the whole;" it was used early in the Church's history to distinguish her from a number of other gatherings whose teachings and practices were not true to the authoritative teachings of Christ's apostles. All human persons are invited and encouraged to accept the salvation offered by Jesus through His one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church by living the sacramental life offered by the Catholic Church. It is the mission of Our Lady of the Prairie Catholic Church to offer this life to the people of Belle Plaine, Minnesota and its environs. If you would like to become Catholic, please contact Fr. Brian Lynch in person or by email at: [email protected].
The Baptism of The Lord January 13, 2019
CHRISTIAN WOMEN, PLEASE GIVE PIETRA FITNESS A TRY! Dear Parishioners and Friends of Our Lady of the Prairie, especially women: Jesus had some major disagreements with people. A number of the people with whom Jesus disagreed were also Jewish, but they understood the Jewish religion differently than Jesus. Some of the people with whom Jesus disagreed belonged to a group called Pharisees. Speaking of the Pharisees on one occasion, Jesus said, “They tie up heavy burdens [hard to carry] and lay them on people’s shoulders, but they will not lift a finger to move them” (Matthew 23:4). What upset Jesus was that although the Pharisees were good at pointing out problems, when it came to providing solutions, the Pharisees had few answers. I too disagree with a number of people, many of them Christian, and actually believe that they are wrong. I believe that the sacraments of the Catholic Church are the normal and efficacious means provided by God for communion with God, and that all people would benefit from becoming Catholic by receiving the sacraments, thereby being one with Jesus Christ and his Body, the Church. For a person to benefit properly from these sacraments, he or she must understand what the human person is, in a thoroughly Christian way. Unfortunately we live in a less than Christian culture marked by a syncretism that absorbs and incorporates non-Christian beliefs and normalizes them; removing them from their explicitly pagan religious contexts and presenting them in such a way that they seem harmless. This is in fact what has happened with yoga, which originated with and developed within the Hindu religion with the “ultimate or primary goal” of “the oneness of humanity with cosmic consciousness” Gertrud Hirschi, Mudras: Yoga in Your Hands, page 3. [For a presentation of the problem, Google (Yoga trades union with Christ for union with the cosmos).] As you know, I am opposed to the practice of yoga by Christians, but now I am not only pointing out the yoga problem, I am offering a solution: LIVE Pietra Fitness sessions at Our Lady of the Prairie led by our very own certified Pietra Fitness Instructor, Loree Heinkel. Please join other women at Our Lady of the Prairie on Thursday evenings at 6 p.m. and try Pietra Fitness. Wear clothing comfortable for stretching. Bring an exercise mat, water, and a friend! All the Best in Christ, Fr. Brian Lynch
