ST NICHOLAS STORE OLR School Council will be opening the St. Nicholas Store on December 11, 12 and 13. This is an exciting opportunity for students to shop for Christmas gifts for family members. Each class will have time to shop in the store for items that range in price from $2 - $5. Please watch for more info coming home this week. MRS. TEDESCO’S KINDERGARTEN CLASS

Mrs. Tedesco’s kindergarten class ended the month of November with Circus Day. Students sorted colours to make clown hats and masks, and they also participated in bowling and bean bag toss games. Before heading off on their parade, students made and sampled cotton candy!

ARCHEOLOGY IN GRADE 4 This week the grade 4 students from Ms. Buckley’s and Mrs. Rossouw’s classes had a hands-on learning experience, all about Archaeology. They learned that Archeologists try to understand the past by studying bones and artifacts that have been buried for thousands of years. The students loved working with the program presenter, Nathan from the Glenbow Ranch Park Foundation to uncover the mysteries of bones and artifacts.

CANTEEN AND HOT LUNCHES

The school canteen is open for business. We sell various snack items that sell mostly for $1.

• Thursday, December 13 – Pasta & Sauce for $2.

• Thursday, January 10 – Pulled pork for $3.00

CTF – Fast Fashion Option Grade 4, 5 and 6 students have been participating in the first term of CTF – Career and technology foundations. This option has been examining the impact that “fast fashion” has on the environment. The first project, students were involved in re-purposing old t-shirts into useful items instead of dumping them into the landfill. The second project is a group challenge. Students are using old denim (jeans and jackets) to create as many new useful items as possible. We are excited to start cutting and creating next week.

ConnectionsDECEMBER 2018

Board of Trustees’ Christmas MessageOur Catholic community is busy preparing to rejoice in the birth of Jesus. Christmas is a joyous cel-ebration; God sent his only son to live among us and to bring the light into our world. “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life” (John 8:12). Visit cssd.ab.ca/News for the full message.

Chief Superintendent’s Christmas MessageAdvent is upon us and another great year is coming to an end, we hope that our Calgary Catholic community is beginning to embrace the joyful feeling and spirit of the Christmas season. It is because of the sacred gift of the Christ child, who came to us so long ago, that we as a Catholic school district exist. It is the message and meaning of Jesus’ life, handed down to us through scripture, that we are called to share with every student that is entrusted to us. Visit cssd.ab.ca/News for the full message.
