Third Sunday of Lent Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church March 24, 2019
From the Pastor:
“Just as the keeper of the vineyard keeps his eye on the fig tree and eagerly looks for the first fruit buds, so God looks at every sinner and at each one of us,” writes Father André Louf, a French Cistercian monk, about this Sunday’s gospel reading.
Fr. Louf continues:
[God] scrupulously keeps an eye out for what could touch our heart, and looks for the secret stirrings of repentance and con-version. To that end he gives us time. God knows that humans are by nature slow and even slothful, and that it takes a long time for us to become mature adults and finally to bear fruit. It has not been given to humans to reach perfection overnight; our conversion requires much time…
For all the time given us, every day and every hour, are a marvel-ous gift from God: it is the time of His grace, whose intent is that we should go to Him and let ourselves be seized and turned around by His abundant mercy like so many who have gone be-fore us.
Take this Lenten time to go to God and experience His mercy. He wants us to live in the freedom of His love. He keeps an eye on us so that we might more fully choose Him.
Have you been to Confession yet? Have you taken up a spiritual practice like reading about the life of a saint? Have you done something – gone out of your way -- for love of the Lord? Turn to Him with little changes, with gifts of time. He will help make you more into Him to be His love in the world. Be seized by God’s abundance mercy this Lent!
With love and prayers, Fr. Francis

Third Sunday of Lent Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church March 24, 2019
As members of Jesus’ family on earth faced with yet another act of hatred, this time in New Zea-
land, let us remember in our prayers all victims of senseless violence in our country and across
the world. Let us pray for their families, their friends and neighbors. Let us pray, as well, for
the men and women here and abroad who have chosen careers dedicated to keeping us safe.
Finally, let us pray that the Holy Spirit guides us to see the road to peace.

The Message of the Annunciation…..A Prayer to Be Open to God's Will
Good and gracious God, I know that life can be unpredictable. Sometimes I know what is good and right, but I don't have the courage to do it. Sometimes I am so busy with my own affairs, I forget to see the needs of people in front of me. Sometimes I am set in my own ways, and I resist growing and learning. Help me, Lord, to be open to Your will. When You prompt me to do the right thing, give me the courage to do it. When those around me need my help, give me Your heart to love them. When I'm stuck in my own ways, give me the grace to grow closer to You every day. Give me the trust and confidence of Mary. Let it be done unto me according to Your word!
Amen. https://www.portal.4lpi.com/user/download/single/filename/032419_cf13.txt

Weekly Quote from St. Philip Neri
""We must not leave off our prayers because of distrac-tions and restlessness of mind, although it seems useless to go on with them. He who perseveres for the whole of his accustomed time, gently recalling his mind to the
subject of his prayer, merits greatly."

Third Sunday of Lent Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church March 24, 2019
The Children’s Corner In our Gospel lesson today, Jesus told a story about a man who planted a fig tree in his garden. After some time had passed, he went to look for some fruit on the tree, but there was none. Year after year he watched the tree, but the tree never produced any fruit. Finally, the man went to the gardener who took care of the tree and said to him, "For three years I have been coming to look for fruit on this fig tree and haven't found any. Cut it down! It is just taking up space in the garden."
The gardener answered, "Please, sir, give it one more chance. Leave it for another year. I will give it special attention. I will dig around the tree and give it plenty of fertilizer. If the tree produces fruit next year, great, if not, then you can cut it down."
In telling this story, Jesus was really talking about us and about God. God has "planted" us here on this earth and he expects us to produce good fruit in our life. What kind of fruit does he expect? When He looks at the way we live our life, he wants to see things like love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, and gentleness. There are times when he is disap-pointed in what he sees, but he is willing to give us another chance.
What can we do to help us produce the kind of fruit that God expects? We can worship regularly, read his Word, and pray. Those things will help us to live a fruitful life. Let's pray right now and ask God to help us.
Heavenly Father, we know that you expect good things from your chil-
dren. Help us live a life that will be pleasing to you. In Jesus' name we
pray. Amen.
