Pastor’s Corner Prayer Corner 2020

Weekly Income for August 8-9, 2020

Today we celebrate the Twentieth Sunday In Ordinary Time. Today’s gospel tells us a story of Jesus encountered a Canaanite woman, a Gentile mother, who pleaded for an exorcism for her daughter. Surprisingly, Jesus said that his mission is only to Israel, “the lost sheep of the house of Israel”. But after the woman persisted, Jesus acknowledged her faith and finally granted her petition for the healing of her daughter. Prayer I do believe that there is great power and great deliverance through prayer. I do believe that through prayer there is no problem that cannot be solved, there is no sickness that cannot be healed, there is no burden that cannot be lifted, there is no storm that cannot be calmed, there is no thirst that cannot be quenched, and there is no hunger that cannot be filled. Anything & everything is possible through prayer! Faith If Your Prayer is like the vehicle, the key to that vehicle is your faith. You may have a nice car but without the key, that vehicle is useless. In the same way, you may have a nice prayer but without faith; your prayer is powerless. That is why Jesus always answered prayers or did his miracles by saying “your faith has saved you. In today’s gospel, Jesus says to the Canaanite woman “O, woman, great is your faith! Let it be done for you as you wish.” Persistence The real secret for answered prayer is this: Persistence. This is the step that many believers stumble over. Persistence is an important factor in prayer. For me, this is the main lesson that we can learn from the Canaanite woman in today’s gospel. So, never ever lose your faith and hope in God! NEVER GIVE UP! PUSH: Pray Until something Happens. Amen. Our Lady Star of the Sea Pray for us

Congratulations to Gabriel Anthony Howard, on receiving the sacrament of Confirmation this Sunday, August 16, 2020 at the St. Louis Cathedral. May God continue to bless him in his spiritual journey ahead.

A Building Fund Account: Dear parishioners, I would like to give you a good news that the Archdiocese has granted our request to open a Building Fund Account to raise funds for projects to beautify our Church. These funds will not be subject to the parish share (assessment) to the archdiocese. From now on, please write down your special donations for Building Fund if you wish to dedicate your donations to beautify our church. And please spread the news to anybody to be part of this restoration project. I would like to thank you for your continued contributions to Our Lady Star of the Sea during this difficult time. I am aware that many of you have been using the online giving program, some of you drop off your envelopes at the rectory /office during the week. Please know that your generous contributions to support our Church have always been greatly appreciated. Your stewardship is an act of thanksgiving for all that God has done for you, your family, and our community. I pray that God will multiply your “five loaves and 2 fish” that you put in God’s hands, and I pray that God will provide “12 basket full” of blessings (abundance of blessings) back to you and your family as you share your financial blessing with our church community.
