To Our Lady’s School Community,

Another term has come to an end and I wish to thank our students, staff and parents for their

dedication and hard work over the past ten weeks

During Term 3 we were involved in many extra-curricula activities that provided students with an

array of opportunities to extend their thinking and engaging in learning, in ways that are purposeful

and authentic. I have listed just a few…

Robo Girls, First Eucharist Reflection Day, STEM Activities, School Athletics Carnival, 100 Days of Prep, Metro Train Incursion, Celebration of First Eucharist, Year 3 Soccer Day, School Disco, Rotary Speech Competition, Baptism Revisited, Hoop Time, School Production, Division Netball Competition, Book Week, Father’s Day, National E - Smart Week, Genazzano Maths Competition, District Sport and Grandparents and Special Friends Day. I feel an incredible sense of gratitude and appreciation as I reflect on my first year as Principal. The

celebrations and highlights have been many and varied, and I am so glad that I have been given this

opportunity to lead the school community.

I thank you sincerely for trusting me and my amazing staff to walk this journey with you.

Annie

Fr Mark’s Birthday As well as Grandparents and Special Friends Morning, we also celebrated Fr Mark’s birthday on Wednesday. He has had a fair amount of birthday cake this week, having commenced with the lighting of candles on Sunday morning following the 9am Parish Eucharist (Mass). The staff shared cake and other goodies with him at Morning Tea, followed by an Assembly. The children assembled around him, sang ‘Happy Birthday’, gave him three birthday stickers and through the process of elimination, worked out his age with suggested figures, ranging from 21 to 100!! We ask God’s continued blessing on Father Mark as he continues his priestly ministry among us here at Our Lady’s. We really appreciate his support and friendship. To really make him extra happy, a Dees win this weekend would be the ‘icing on the cake’! Mrs Potter

Leadership and Management: To grow and sustain a professional culture that is characterised by

excellence, shared vision, collaboration, a strong sense of teamwork and a focus on continuous improvement.

School Community: To enhance the relationships between the school and the parent community.

Condolences

Our deepest condolences go to all of the Ciurleo family upon the passing of Tony’s mum and Bella’s

(5/6F) Nonna, Maria Ciurleo. Please accept the heartfelt sympathies of Our Lady’s Community.

Grandparents/Special Friends Visit What a wonderful celebration we had yesterday, hosting all of our special visitors! Thank you to everyone who made the effort to come along, some travelling quite a distance to be here. The feedback we received was very positive. The Prayer Service provided an opportunity to thank God for the wonderful and enriching gift that great grandparents, grandparents and special friends are to our children. The visits to the classrooms were a lovely opportunity to see the children in their school setting. Last but not least, was the morning tea that everyone enjoyed. Thank you to all the wonderful parents who contributed the beautiful cakes, biscuits and fruit and also helped serve the morning tea. They did an amazing job with so many to serve. Platters can be picked from the staffroom.

Education in Faith: To strengthen and enrich our school as a contemporary Catholic community.

Footy Colours Day. On Friday, September 21st (tomorrow), Our Lady’s School is celebrating Footy Colours Day. On this

day students are welcome to wear their ‘true colours’, by wearing their AFL, Rugby or soccer team’s

colours.

We will also be having a coin line. This is where each student is encouraged to bring as many coins as

they can, which will be lined up and measured. Whichever team has the longest line wins. The

money collected will go to Catholic Mission and Fight Cancer Foundation.

After the coin line and a Footy Parade Run all students will participate in footy based activities.

Mathematics Association of Victoria Interschool Maths Day 2018

On Friday, September7th, Ciaran, Gracie, Hanna, Bella, Alex, Winton, Maddie and Alec represented Our Lady’s and participated in the MAV Inter School Maths day 2018. It was sponsored by the Mathematical Association Victoria at Genazzano FCJ College. Some of the year 7 and 8 Genazzano students were judges and others made sure that everything was going smoothly. We were split into two teams and began the day with team problem solving. There were 30 hard questions and we had a time limit of 45 minutes. This involved maths such as the four operations, fractions, decimals, percentages and measurements. Afterwards, we did 1-on-1 strategy games where we played 3 different games that we had never played before against an opponent from a different team. Finally, we did team Puzzle Solving which required us to think outside the box. There were 20 hard questions and we had another 45 minute time limit but our favourite part of the Maths Day was rolling down the hills! By Ciaran Kinsella, Gracie Jobling and Hanna Hart.

We now have an eftpos machine located in the office. This means if you would like to purchase an

Please also note if you order any items you will need to provide us with a bag due to the

supermarkets going bagless. We are hoping to have our uniform shop online later in Term 4. The
