The Butterfly Files September 2018
Our mission is to provide quality Home Health Care, Hospice and education to
Individuals and families in our communities so that they may reach their highest level of independence.
We would like to wish our very own Krystin LeClair
congratulations on her wedding! Krystin is the Clinical
Manager here at Franklin VNA & Hospice. She and
her new husband Kris have been together for around
6 years now! They have become a beautifully blend-
ed family of six! Along with Kris and Krystin their fam-
ily is made complete with two boys, Kyle and Ryan
and two girls, Hannah and Jocie. All the kids are busy
with sports, keeping Kris and Krystin busy as well, but
they love to relax while camping whenever they can.
Again, from your Franklin VNA family congratulations
to you and your family!

Find the Hidden Pictures Puzzle
Healthy Aging I hear you reading that and saying “Yeah - aging and health don’t go together!”. But I swear it is possible to age in a healthy way to avoid that feeling of being “old and decrepit” the way a lot if people think they will or should as you age! Your mind is young, allow your body to be as well!
Talk to your doctor before starting any new physical activity to get the ok! Then...
Get that body moving in the four following ways...
Endurance, or aerobic which means it is exercise that gets your heart rate and
breathing up. This type of exercise also has a positive impact on your lungs and
circulatory system! Examples of these are: walking, jogging, hiking, basketball and
dare I say it… cross-country skiing in the SNOW I know, I know I said a
bad word, but I just want you to know there are options all year round!
#3
Strengthen your muscles! Push and pull is the basis of strengthening your muscles. It does not need to
be a large amount of weight as long as you continue to keep upgrading when it becomes easy. Before
you know it you won’t need to ask for help to open that jar of pickles - you will do it yourself! Climbing
the stairs, carrying in all your bags from shopping (getting in shape you will need new
clothes - just sayin’) and even playing with your kids or grandkids all becomes easier
when you have built up some strength! So… in my best Russian accent...
Be Strong Like Bull!!!
Balance
Why would doing exercises to have better balance be part of healthy aging? Let me tell
you… Over 2 million older Americans have injuries and disabilities that are a direct result of
falling due to lack of balance! What can I do to better my balance you ask? Well thanks
for asking… yoga is the best form of exercise for this, but just doing a quick search
online will give you tons of examples!!! So search away!
Flexibility achieved by stretching is an important part of staying physically
active! Bonus - Being more flexible helps you in every aspect of your daily life!
Flexibility allows you to accomplish each type of exercise listed here even though it
will not make you more balanced or strong, it will aid you in achieving them!
When you were younger you had loads of energy all day! Getting that back is as simple as finding a way to com-
bine all four of these things into a daily part of your life! Start by talking to your provider, then start slowly. Be-
come the adult-child running around chasing bubbles and lightening bugs and enjoying life because you have the
energy to do it! Live life in a healthy way as you age! Don’t watch it go by without being an active participant!
Summer is known for gatherings of all sorts, from weddings to backyard barbecues. Following in this fun tradition on Wednesday August 22nd staff and local health providers turned out for the Franklin VNA & Hos-pice’s Summer Meet & Greet! Local health clinics, doctor’s offices, long term care centers and care managers from the nearest hospitals were invited to attend and meet the staff of the Franklin VNA & Hospice face to face.
“Strong communication between health care providers helps empower all of us. If we have a patient with a
complex issue, or multiple barriers to care, this communication is key to strategies in overcoming those barri-
ers. Having the chance to meet these providers in person opens those lines of communication,” says Barbara
Normandin, Executive Director of the Franklin VNA & Hospice.
The event was held indoors because of the rain, but had been planned to be held in the Franklin VNA &
Hospice’s Teuscher – Wilson Hospice Garden.
Speaking about the area Normandin says, “The garden is so beautiful this time of year! We want everyone
to come visit, it’s open to the public and is such a peaceful place. It really feels as though you’ve discovered a
secret spot. We wanted to share that spot with the local healthcare groups, let them know they are welcome
here.”
The Franklin VNA & Hospice is an involved part of the local community. From health fairs to Choose Franklin
to the free blood pressure checks offered in five of the towns they serve. “We are your local VNA,” says Nor-
mandin, “That means a referral to us helps us support the free care in your own community, the programs
and clinics we provide and helps to create a stronger safety net in your own neighborhood.”
Normandin cheerfully adds, “We had a great time and made some very meaningful connections. We hope
to hold this event again to continue to strengthen the care network that supports our patients.”

Fun things we did in August...
Health First Health Fairs
Health First hosted Health Fairs at each of their locations. We not only offered informational hand outs on
our services, but also did some face painting and provided temporary tattoos. April, Jenny and Elizabeth had
so much fun that we will definitely join them again at next years fairs!
Salisbury Old Home Day and Parade
Who would believe that Salisbury was celebrating their 250th birthday!!! That little town must have been
following some of our tips on aging in a healthy way! The parade and festivities were so much fun! That
town really knows how to throw a birthday party! We were honored to be apart of it! Again, we handed out
informational material and did more tattooing! We can’t wait to help them celebrate again next year!
