OLHC CWL On Thursday, December 5th, 2019, the OLHC CWL will be hosting the Annual Christmas Dinner, Penny Sale and Skit
Night. Ladies, we need your help to make this evening another success. Donations for the Penny Sale prizes can be sewn, crochet or knitted items, paintings or signs you’ve made must be NEW or VERY delicately used items - please no dated items. Items can be dropped off in
the church basement before Dec. 5th. Please mark these with “For CWL Penny Sale” or drop off by 10 am at the hall on Dec. 5th. Free admission will be given to any member of OLHC CWL
and any lady of the Watford Parish who brings a LARGE main dish and a LARGE salad or dessert. Please drop off your food at the outside kitchen door for your free ticket. Admission
is $15. This is the main fundraiser for the CWL and we cannot accomplish this without your generous help.
This weekend is a rather special and significant one. Not only do we bestow upon our confirmation candidates the sealed gift of the Holy Spirit, it also marks the end of the Liturgical Year pointing us to Advent which begins next weekend. However, I believe that the most important significance of this weekend is the celebration of the Feast of Christ the King.
Throughout the New Testament, there are a number of references to the Kingdom of Heaven, and the Kingdom that is here. As He taught us how to pray to Our Father, Jesus took us a step further to include in His prayer ‘…thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.’
I think we can safely draw from this that Christ is King of both this world and that of eternity. Not that He would ever likely wear a crown of jewels as a symbol of His reign, it is the crown of thorns He wore for our salvation that does so.
If Christ had not been willing to dawn the crown of thorns for our sake, we would have no hope of sharing in His suffering, let alone the joy of His resurrection. Let us honour not just His sacrifice, but also the fact that He is our King, and let His will, not ours, be done.
Advent Confessions* Our Lady Help of Christians Wednesday December 4th: 3:00pm - 5:00pm (Please note that as Fr. Mark will be by himself, this time is primarily being offered for those who do not like driving at night.) 6:00pm - 8:00pm (Fr. Francis will be assisting.)
St. Christopher's* Saturday December 7th: 1:00pm - 3:00pm. Saturday December 14th: 1:00pm - 3:00pm
*If so desired, as Fr. Mark's December calendar is rather full, please email him directly in order to schedule Confession at another time prior to Christmas Eve.
OLHC Christmas Is For Everyone The need for donations continues to grow every year for the Christmas campaign. We will be collecting gifts for all age
groups until December 1st, after which time they will be taken to the gift depot in Petrolia. If you prefer to make a monetary donation, it may be mailed to 4156 Petrolia Line, Unit 1, Petrolia, ON N0N 1R0. This is a registered charity
and receipts can be issued upon request for donations of $30.00 and over. Volunteers are crucial to the operation and are needed as of Sunday, December 15th to Wednesday, December 18th. Contact Sandra Hartman 519-882-3950 or
519-330-5773 (please leave a message). Our parish has always been generous with donation for this cause and we thank you for you support for this campaign.
Book of Remembrance Again this year we have a special Book of Remembrance in the church for the month of
November. Please take time to read the names in the book, pray for them and add the names of your loved ones whom you would like to remember. We will pray for all those named in
the book at each of the Masses in November.
We are accepting donations for Christmas flowers in memory of a loved one who has died. The names of your loved ones will be published in the Christmas bulletin. We will need donations to be received in the office by December 15, 2019 to give
us enough time to prepare the Christmas bulletin. Please use the form below and place it with your donation into an
envelope clearly marked “Christmas Flowers”. Cheques should be made payable to the parish .
