TWELFTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
Pastor’s Letter
Dear Parish Family,
Today, we honor and wish all fathers a Happy Father’s Day! We thank them for everything they do for us and their families. On this celebration of Father’s Day, we wish to express our gratitude for their love, care, support and sacrifice. For those who are deceased, we honor their memory and pray for the repose of their souls.
In today’s gospel, Jesus asked His disciples, “Who do people say that I am?” Simon Peter gave the correct answer when he declared, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” But, the question is, do we really know Jesus? Some people think that they already know Jesus because they read about Him in the Scriptures, or because somebody told them about Him. They must have heard the name of Jesus during their catechism class, or when they go to Mass on Sundays. But, is that all we know about Him? Is He simply one of those religious personalities that we have heard of?
Some Christians loudly declare: “Jesus is my personal Savior.” Unless we experience the loving presence of Christ in our life; unless we accept Him as our Lord and Savior; unless we abide by His teachings and implement His values in our life, then we really won’t know Him. To know Him is to live like Him; to be possessed by His mystery is to be like Christ. Then you will be able to say “it is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me.”
Many of us call ourselves Christians and followers of Christ – but sad to say, it remains only in name. A follower of Christ is one who has opened his heart to Christ, and is ready to do His will. It is one who lives the life of Christ, ready to carry his cross every day and follow Him. Are we ready to follow Him and do His will, even if it is difficult at times?
Enjoy your summer! Find time to take a break and relax.
God bless you all.
Sincerely in Christ,
Fr. Alex
A Prayer for Father’s Day
We give our thanks, Creator God, for the fathers in our lives. Fatherhood does not come with a manual, and reality teaches us that some fathers excel while others fail. We ask for Your blessings for them all - and forgiveness where it is needed. This Father’s Day we remember the many sacrifices fathers make for their children and families, and the ways - both big and small - they lift children to achieve dreams thought beyond reach. So too, we remember all those who have helped fill the void when fathers pass early or are absent - grandfathers and uncles, brothers and cousins, teachers, pastors and coaches - and the women in our families. For those who are fathers, we ask for wisdom and humility in the face of the task of parenting. Give them the strength to do well by their children and by You. In Your Holy Name, O God, we pray. Amen.
May our Heavenly Father bless all earthly fathers today and every day. Their influence as teachers and role models should never be underestimated. - - Christopher News Notes - -
ADORNO FATHERS ARTS & CRAFTS FAIR
The Friends of the Adornos will hold an Arts & Crafts Fair on the grounds of St. Michael’s Seminary, 575 Darlington Ave., Ramsey on Sunday, June 26 from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Admission is free and there is ample parking. Refreshments and food sold on the premises. No pets please. Children can make different crafts at the free “hands on” craft table. The hand crafted items include furniture, woodwork, ceramics, metal art, jewelry, painting, photography, glass and textiles.
At the end of life, we will not be judged by how many diplomas we have received, how much money we have made, how many great things we have done. We will be judged by “I was hungry, and you gave me something to eat, I was naked and you clothed me, I was homeless and you took me in.” - - Mother Teresa - -
