SEPTEMBER 24
SUNDAY SCHOOL BEGINS!
Thank you to all of our teachers and staff at our schools and churches who give of their time, talents,
resources and love to our children!
May God bless all of our students and teachers as together we begin a new year at church and school.
Dear Friends,
The new school year is upon us. It has
been a wonderful summer with time at
the lake, the fair, and all sorts of activities.
Now we begin the change of the season
and a new school year. With football and
volleyball games already starting we have
much to celebrate.
I think of the verse from the book of He-
brews. “Therefore since we are surround-
ed by so great a cloud of witnesses let us
lay aside every sin which clings so closely
and entangles us and let us run the race
that is set before us, fixing our eyes on
Jesus, the author and perfecter of our
faith.” Hebrews 12:1&2
Even back in Biblical times, sports were
very much a part of people’s lives. Folks
would gather in marketplaces and arenas
for games. Fathers, mothers, uncles,
aunts, neighbors and friends would sit in
“the stands” and watch athletes compete.
They would cheer them on. This is the
meaning for the witnesses that surround
us. They are the heroes from the past men-
tioned in Hebrews 11 who cheer us on in
our walk with the Lord.
Think of it. Not only do we have family,
neighbors and friends to encourage us on
in our walk with Jesus, but a whole host of
people of great faith from the past.
In doing so, they encourage us to regular
prayer and devotions. They encourage us to
worship and regular fellowship times with
each other. They literally stand beside us as
we run the race that is set before us.
Every opportunity is offered in our parish to
help us to grow and run the race. Take ad-
vantage and nurture your faith this Fall with
worship, fellowship, Bible study and devo-
tion.
Running the race with you, your friend and
pastor,
Pastor Janet Warnes

Friday, September 14 at 2:00 pm the Lydia and Phoebe Circle meets at the North Star Manor Apartments.
The ODC Bible Study resumes at 9:00 am on September 19 at ODC.
Confirmation Class Starting Up:
Will our children have faith? Confirmation is an important Educational Ministry of our Parish. It means that you as parents care enough to place the Holy Scriptures into the hands of your kids. It means that you want your children to know Christ in a deeper way. It means that you love your kids enough to give them the best.
Thought for the Week
With school starting up, practices and games, we find ourselves coming and going. It can be hard for tired eyes to see a great future. When we are tired we are not the same person. We don’t have the same patience and en-thusiasm for life and life’s challenges.
When we are rested, it is easier to reflect on life and make good decisions.
When we are tired, mountains look bigger. When we are tired at night, things which normally ap-pear simple suddenly feel very burdensome and com-plex to us.
When we are tired, val-leys seem deeper. Discour-aging factors seem to en-large. Disappointments seem keener and stronger when our body is worn out. When we are tired, offenses come easier. Little things become big. We begin to replay over in our mind the wrongs that people have done to us.
Jesus understood this. That is why He encouraged His disciples to “come apart and rest awhile.” (Mark 6:31). Rest restores. Even just a few extra minutes can help us to be renewed. Take some time; rest awhile.

OSL/MELO CHOIR PRACTICE WILL BEGIN AGAIN ON WEDNESDAY, SEPT 26, AT 7 PM AT OUR SAVIOR’S. NEW MEMBERS ARE ALWAYS WELCOME! We will sing on Confirmation Sunday, October 28.
COME AND JOIN THIS BEAUTIFUL MINISTRY OF THE CHURCH AND SHARE YOUR GOD-GIVEN TALENT AS YOU PRAISE THE LORD WITH SONG! New song leaders for worship are welcome to contact Katie Benson.
THIS AND THAT:
Tomatoes, cucumbers & fresh veggies are needed at the Melo Fall Dinner if any members have extra to share. Tomatoes and refrigerator pickles are needed for the OSL Fall Supper.
A new OSL Servant Leader is needed for months of August, September and December. Leaders have often been unable to reach people in the servant groups. Please return phone calls or messages from your leader during your servant month; it’s very difficult to fill the servant tasks when people who are capable don’t participate and it can be discouraging for the servant leaders. If you’d like to switch to a different month, please call the office (745-4478).

September Servants
September Birthdays and Anniversaries
The OSL & Melo Tuesday Quilter’s Group will resume our quilting afternoons on Sept 25th at 1:00 pm in the lower level of Our Savior’s. Also, we are always looking for new people to
join us, or maybe those who were formerly a part of the group to come once again on Tuesdays, as we enjoy fellowship and a little lunch and work on quilts for babies, children &
adults in our local area and for world-wide distribution. You are more than welcome to come and join us; we will train you if needed!
Blessings,
