Welcome to Week 2 of Term 1 2019. It is a delight to say that the school year has begun in such a settled way with all classes busy beginning their educational pathway for the year. Our new Kindergarten students have settled in beautifully and seem like they have been attending our school for years. All stages are settled and working hard and Assistant Principals are working with their teams to plan and program for the term. Well done parents for the preparation of your children. 2019 is looking like a great year. Kingslangley Campus Our campus is currently feeling the effect of the new build and as we settle into our routines for the year, there are some teething issues we are experiencing and your help would be appreciated. Firstly the volume of student equipment has increased and we need all items clearly marked with your child’s name. It is not possible to return items of clothing, lunch boxes, drink bottles, bags and stationary if the items aren’t clearly named. The afternoon pick-up at Kingslangley Road has extra complications due to our increased enrolment. Please be aware of the local traffic rules and also the road rules if you drive your car to Kingslangley Road. I have witnessed some irresponsible driving over the last week and I believe that we are lucky to have had an incident free time. double parking, U-turns, parking across driveways, reversing into a driveway at a bus stop, as well as overtaking on the crossing, are all illegal and dangerous things to do. I am asking for your assistance to stamp out this behaviour before an accident occurs. We are at capacity in our staff carpark at Kingslangley Road and request that parents do not pick-up students from this carpark. The recent deaths in Western Sydney have highlighted the use of school carparks and our school does not have any capacity to allow parents to park onsite. Our school risk assessment identified that our carpark does not have barriers and therefore car movement is restricted to staff only. We do not allow any pedestrian access through our carpark and cannot ensure the safety of anyone who walks through. Again please assist us with this decision. As our campus has a restricted playground area during the build we are offering students a variety of clubs/activities during break times. These will include: Lego Club, Documentary Club, Drawing Club, Coding Club, Chess, Library, Gardening Club, Dance and Choirs to name a few. Each group activity will be supervised by a teacher voluntarily and will begin soon. This should offer a range of activities for students at lunch breaks. Principal’s Message Greenwich Public School

Greenwich Road Greenwich Road campus is also undergoing some change as you will have noticed. Currently there is a temporary fence around the playground not associated to the build. This is a construction fence and will be in place temporarily while we wait for the old rusted fence to be removed and a new fence placed along Greenwich Road and Chisholm Street. Once the build is completed the fenced area will also be replaced along Wardrop & Chisholm Streets. Christmas Gift Tree Thank you to all the families who donated to our gift tree in 2018. It was taken to a Lane Cove Community Centre and distributed through their network of organisations. We received a letter of thanks for your generous donations and this has been displayed in the notice board outside the finance office on the Kingslangley Road Campus. I am extremely proud of the school’s response and your generosity. Greenwich Build Update Please find attached the schedule for building works for both our campuses over the next two weeks. Thank you and have a wonderful week. I look forward to seeing you at our teacher/parent evening(s) on Wednesday 20 February at 6pm Greenwich Road Campus for parents/carers of Kindergarten students and Wednesday 13 February at 6pm Kingslangley Road for parents/carers of years 1-6 parents. Vicki McKenzie.

JOINING TRAINING BAND IN 2019? The Greenwich Public School Band Committee would like to welcome our new Training Band Conductor, Mr Tony Grimm. ‘My name is Tony Grimm, and I am the new conductor of the Greenwich Public School Training Band. I am very excited to work at this fabulous school and I am looking forward to meeting a great bunch of new musicians, learning to play wonderful music together. My first musical experience was learning the clarinet at the age of ten. These days, my main instrument is the rare & much sought-after bassoon, which initially appealed to me because of its unusual but unique appearance. My love of music came from enjoying being a part of an ensemble when I was a student. When I’m not being a musician, I love to travel around the world (favourite countries are Norway, Cambodia & Estonia). I still really enjoy performing professionally in many different groups, as well as teaching and directing students at many different schools so I can share my passion with them. I hope that all of the students in Training Band will enjoy developing their skills on their new instruments and will be excited to perform for you all very soon!’ STRINGS
