Issue 5 Term 1 Week 5 26 February 2020
Good afternoon Parents, Carers and Friends of Greenwich Public School.
Welcome to Week 5 Term 1.
Yesterday I witnessed our students participate in the Paul Kelly Cup at Gore Hill Oval. Congratulations to
all students who participated in the day. Once again Greenwich students were great ambassadors for our
school.
I must congratulate our students on both campuses for their consideration of both environments.
Greenwich road is being beautifully cared for by Kindergarten and Stage 1 while Stages 2 & 3 on
Kingslangley Road are being incredibly respectful and cooperative during this stressful time of change. I
am very proud of all our students.
Tell Them From Me Survey 2020
I am delighted that this term, our school, like many other public schools in the state, will participate in a
Department of Education initiative: the Tell Them From Me student feedback survey. The survey measures
factors that are known to affect academic achievement and other student outcomes. The focus of the
NSW-wide survey is on student wellbeing, engagement and effective teaching practices.
More information about the survey is available at: http://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au
The survey is a great opportunity for our students to provide us with valuable and quick feedback on what
they think about school life, how engaged they are with school and the different ways that teachers interact
with them. More than 6,300 schools in Australia and around the world have used Tell Them From Me to
survey 5.4 million students. Capturing the voices of our students will help improve how we do things at our
school.
I want to assure you that the survey is confidential. The survey is conducted online and will typically take
less than 30 minutes to complete. It will be administered during school hours between 9 March and 8 May.
Participating in the survey is entirely voluntary.
A consent form and FAQs for parents/carers about the survey is attached to this newsletter. If you do not
want your child or children to participate, please return the form to school by Friday 6 March.
Greenwich Road
Last Thursday afternoon we held a welcome to our new school evening. It was wonderful to see the local
community come along and take the opportunity to view the new buildings. We even had someone who
attended our school in 1929 join us.
Thank you to our P&C and our wonderful student leaders who assisted the executive staff during the
evening. A similar event will be held when Kingslangley Rd is fully operational.

Kingslangley Road Entry Changes
Taylor have advised us that occasionally school access for Kingslangley Road will need to be via the park.
Taylor will have traffic control to inform all teachers and students on arrival. If this occurs and I have
advanced warning, I will notify you through our Schoolbag app. There are occasions however when a
delivery occurs at a time not expected and students and teachers will need to access Henningham Park.
Traffic Control officers will be on duty at all times.
SRC Badging and Whole School Assembly
Our first whole school assembly will be held on March 5 at Greenwich Road campus. All students will need
to start the day at Greenwich Road on that day and Stage 2 and Stage 3 will walk to Kingslangley Road
at the conclusion of the assembly.
Students who are our SRC representatives for 2020 will be given their badges at this assembly and their
parents and carers are invited to join us. Invitations were sent out this week.

Gates on Greenwich Road
Due to frequent incidents of students leaving the school grounds because of gates being left open once
again, I need to strongly ask that as you move through our school gates you ensure they are closed behind
you. Please understand that this is for security reasons. I am happy to discuss this at any time. Your
patience and understanding would be greatly appreciated. This practice must also happen during GOOSH
times as well.
Thank you for your understanding and assistance.
I hope you have a wonderful week.

Dear Greenwich Students, Carers, Families and Friends,
I hope you are all well and that your new school year is happy and rewarding. I had such a fabulous year
down under and miss you all. Australia will always be a second home to me, and my heart has been with
you all as news of the fires hit the airwaves.
I am writing to share some exciting news. When we heard of the fires my school community wanted to
do something. So, they did… This was a grassroots initiative from our students and families. Ms. Smith
will attest to the kind and caring hearts of the Cameron school community.
The Year 6 and 7 Me to We students at my beautiful inner-city school in Burnaby led a school fundraiser
during Valentine’s Day week. They advertised, held a bake sale that raised $238.35, and went class to
class to collect student and family donations. These students collected many $.05, $.10, $.25, $1 and $2
coins as well as $10 and $20 and $50 bills. Many of the donations received came directly out of student

piggy banks. Two students I know of contributed $50 of their own piggy bank money. I think my favourite
donation was a $.05, a $.25 and a $.01 cent coin from a Year 1 / 2 class. Clearly from the heart! Our Year
6 and 7 students worked very hard and put their hearts into this initiative.
It is with great gratitude that I report our school raised $1916.68 Australian Dollars to support the
outstanding work NSW Firies have done to get the NSW fires under control. So proud of our students and
so proud of the Firies who worked diligently to get the fires under control!
We’re all doing a happy dance here in Canada.
Best to all of you!

Book Club
Welcome Parents and students to a wonderful new
year of Book club.
My name is Rachel Daniels and I will be helping Mrs
Walker our lovely Librarian with Book Club this year.
We are encouraging all parents to order your book
club online this year to make ordering easier. This
helps to get all the right books to the right student and
eliminates any discrepancies.
You can go online to scholastic.com.au/loop and
register by clicking on the "register" if you have not
registered before, and you are new to Book club. Following the registration process and creating an
account is easy just follow the prompts.
Another fast and easy way is to head to the App store or your Android equivalent and search for Scholastic
Loop. The App is a red square with a book and the word LOOP on the icon as pictured below. This is the
easiest way to quickly get the book ordered that your child would like from the catalogue.
After you have downloaded the App you can order any time before the due date which will be indicated on
the top corner of the magazine that is issued. Please make sure you have all orders in by the due date to
avoid any disappointment.
If you have any questions please feel free to contact me via the Junior Campus office.
Happy reading!!
Rachel Daniels

SCHOOL BANKING – RECOMMENCES AT GREENWICH ROAD CAMPUS ON THURSDAY 5th
MARCH
School banking is offered as a P&C activity, through the Commonwealth Bank School banking program.
It runs under the COLA on Thursday mornings before school (8.45 – 9.10).
If you would like your child to participate in School banking, they will need a Commonwealth Bank
Youthsaver account. You can open an account for your child either online or at any Commonwealth
Bank branch. You will need to have on hand identification for yourself and your child - a driver’s licence,
medicare card, and birth certificate are ideal.
On 5th March, you may also establish an account before school at the Greenwich Rd campus.
Jamey from the CBA will be at the Greenwich Rd campus on 5th March, from 8.45 – 9.10. Jamey can
answer any questions you have and can assist you to set up a new account – if you want do this, please
bring along identification for yourself and for your child.
If your child has an existing Commonwealth Bank Youthsaver account, they can start banking straight
away. They just need to bring in their deposit wallet on Thursdays.
If you would like to know more about School banking, please visit commbank.com.au/banking/school-
banking.html
School banking at Kingslangley Rd will resume in Term 2. In the meantime, students in years 3 – 6
are welcome to bank at Greenwich Rd. on Thursday mornings (they then need to make their own way to
the Kingslangley campus), and/or ask a sibling to bank for them. They can also make a deposit through
any Commonwealth branch.
KINDERGARTEN FAMILY PICNIC
Last Friday, the Kindergarten Family Picnic was held at Berry Island. The feedback was that it was a
great afternoon. Thanks to Myles Kennedy for organising this successful event for our Kindy families.
A few points to note for students new to banking:
Once your child’s account is set up, it takes 24 hours before it can be used for School banking.
The bank will tell you the BSB and account number. The first time your child deposits with School
banking please ensure their name, BSB and account number are all completed on the deposit
slip.
The Student ID number is then generated by the School banking team, after your child banks with
us for the first time. We write it into your child’s deposit book the next time they bank at school.
The minimum deposit is 5 cents.
We are happy for kids to deposit on behalf of older/younger siblings if their siblings have eligible
accounts and send in their banking wallet. We can also split a single note between two accounts.
