Our School Day
• Classroom doors open and work begins at 8:25 am
• Students arriving after 8:35 am will be marked tardy
• Dismissal is at 3:05 pm daily except on Wednesdays in the plaza
• Dismissal on Wednesdays is at 1:50 pm in the plaza
• Late arrival and early dismissal (5 in total) will disqualify the student from receiving a Perfect Attendance Certificate
Arrival Procedures• Parents need to drop off their child at one of the gates
• Use driveway for drop off
• Keep left lane clear to ensure traffic continues moving
Dismissal Procedures• Blue dismissal passes are a requirement
• Walkers must have a signed parental release form
• Walkers need to walk home and are not permitted to stand around in front of the school
• Children need to be picked up in a timely manner. No supervision is available after 3:35 pm
Dismissal Procedures
• Change of dismissal plan for a child must be given to the teacher in handwriting (no emails)
• In the event of an emergency, parents may scan and fax/email a copy of their license but will need to contact the school in the event the teacher is absent or the internet is down
• No parking in the faculty/staff parking lots (front or back) or in the neighboring driveways. Parents must park on the grass and not block the driveways.
Dismissal Procedures
• Pets are not permitted on school property
• Please be courteous of people crossing the street
• Students should not be dropped off in the middle of the street in the morning
• Walkers should be using the crosswalk closest to the bike rack
• Cars may not be left unattended
Early Sign Out
Board Policy 5200
• Students are to be counted in attendance only if they are actually present for at least two (2) hours of the day or engaged in a school-approved educational activity which constitutes a part of the instructional program for the student. Therefore, a student Released Early (before 10:20 am for students in grades K-1 and 10:35 am for students in grades 2-5) will be marked absent for the day
• The early release of students causes disruption to the academic performance of all students and may create safety and security concerns. No students shall be released within the final 30 minutes of the school day.
Excused Absences
School Board Rule 5200 defines “Excused” school absences as:
• Student illness
• Medical appointment
• Death in the family
Excused Absences
• Observance of a religious holiday or service when it is mandated for all members of a faith that such a holiday or service be observed
• School-sponsored event or activity previously approved
• Other individual student absences beyond the control of the parent or student, as determined and approved by the principal or principal’s designee
Absences
• Every absence must be followed by a written note from home no later than 3 days after the student returns to school. The note must include the following information:
• Student’s name and ID number
• Date (s) of absence
• Reason for absence
• Parent’s signature
Absences
• Any student that is absent 3 more days will be put on an Attendance Plan regardless of whether they are excused or unexcused
• At the third absence during the school year, the student will be referred to a counselor
• If a student is unexcused, school board policy is that the student is not given make up work for the days that were missed and a “Z” (a ZERO) is inputted into the gradebook for any tests that were missed
• Students with excused absences have 3 days to complete missed assignments
Tuesday Folders
• Take Home Tuesday Folders will be issued to all students school wide. Important school notices will be sent home in this folder every Tuesday. These folders must be returned every Wednesday.
School Uniforms• Norma Butler Bossard Elementary is a mandatory uniform school. Students
must adhere to the uniform policy found on page 28 of the Parent Handbook
• The uniform for boys is as follows: Khaki shorts or pants; navy blue or gold solid polo shirts or, navy blue/gold blocked polo shirts, shoes or sneakers (no sandals or crocs) *Polo shirts must display the school emblem.
• The uniform for girls is as follows: Khaki shorts, pants, skirts and skorts; navy blue, gold or solid polo shirts; navy blue or gold blocked polo shirts; shoes or sneakers (no sandals or crocs) *Polo shirts must display the school emblem.
School Uniforms
•Boys and girls are also required to wear a school t-shirt every Friday. The Friday shirt may be worn with jeans. The yellow or blue shirt must be worn when participating in field Trip Activities unless stated otherwise by the classroom teacher. Some Field Trip Activities may require students to be dressed in their school uniform.
•Friday shirts can be any NBB school spirited shirt; field day shirt from last year, Friday yellow or blue t-shirt. If jeans are worn on Fridays they must be solid blue jeans with no holes or cuts; solid blue jean shorts (appropriate in length) may also be worn Fridays.

• Students must wear sweatshirts and jackets in the uniform colors
• Jeans may not have tears

• After 3 missed home learning assignments a detention will be given to the student to be served after school on Wednesday in the art room
• Conduct grades will be based on the observance of these rules
• Student’s behavior may affect his/her participation in any field trip or special activity
Electronic Gradebook
Notifications• The District Electronic Gradebook provides automated email notifications to
parents and students who subscribe for this service and allows parents to see their child’s grades
• Parents and students who wish to start receiving automated email subscriptions can do so via the Electronic Gradebook link in the parent or student portals

Student Portal
• Child's username and password should be:

• In order for students to be able to access their textbooks, iReady, and ThinkCentral students will have a single sign-on process
• Do not begin any iReady at home until the diagnostic testing has been completed in school
Birthday Celebrations
• Parents are permitted to bring cupcakes or doughnuts for their child’s class
• Parents must be cleared volunteers in order to have access to the cafeteria
• Balloons, pizza, party bags and other party materials may not enter the cafeteria
The Florida Standards Assessments
• MAFS and LAFS will be assessed with the new Florida Standards Assessments (FSA)
• Spring 2016 administration of elementary school assessments will include:
• English Language Arts (ELA): grades 3- 5*
• ELA Writing Component: grades 4 and 5
• Mathematics: grades 3- 5*
*5th grade will have Computer Based Testing

• The 2008 Next Generation Sunshine State Standards (NGSSS) remain for science and social science
• Science FCAT 2.0 continues as the grade 5 science assessment
• Social Sciences supports literacy during K-5 required instruction

Requirements For Class Trip Participation
• Participation in this trip is a privilege. It is up to the administration and the teacher to determine the participation of ANY student on this trip
• Things that may keep students from attending the trip include:
• “D” or “F” in conduct • Students involved in habitual violation of the code of Student
Conduct involving disciplinary action
DEPOSITS WILL NOT BE REFUNDED IF A STUDENT IS REMOVED FROM THE TRIP. NO EXCEPTIONS!
Parent Chaperones
• In order for a parent to chaperone the class trip or any other field trip, they must first obtain volunteer (L1) clearance by Friday, October 1, 2016
• Volunteer clearance must be renewed each year
• If assistance is needed with obtaining volunteer clearance please see Mrs. Aquino
• A yellow or blue school shirt must be worn by all volunteers attending a class trip
Parent Chaperones
• Parents must ride the bus to and from each school trip
• If a parent shows up on a field trip without being cleared by the office, they may not have contact with the students on the trip
• Volunteers are selected using the lottery system (with the exception of the Disney Field Trip)
Other Announcements
• Conferences must be scheduled in advance with the teacher (arrival and dismissal is not a time to conference)
