Craig Burnett, PRINCIPAL

Dear Parents,

SCHOOL COUNCIL At our meeting on Monday night School Council; ratified Huntly Primary School 2016 Annual Report, ratified Huntly Primary School’s Annual Implementation plan for 2017, gave permission for the Overseas Learning Experience to Shanghai and Suzhou in China for 2017 and accepted the changes to the Huntly Primary School Students Engagement Policy as listed below.

SCHOOL UNIFORM We have noted that there are a number of students who are regularly out of uniform at the moment. It is school policy that all students must wear school uniform. A copy of the current uniform policy is available from the school website or a hard copy can be collected from the school office. Students who come to school not in school uniform will be given an “Out of Uniform Note” to bring home. This must be completed and returned to school as soon as possible. If parents have any questions, please contact me at school

EMOTIONAL LITERACY Staff have commenced work on building students Emotional Literacy in all classrooms across the school. Building a large vocabulary for emotions helps build self-awareness and empathy for others. Emotional Literacy is part of the Social and Emotional Learning package produced by the Department of Education and Training. Research has shown that students who participate in these program demonstrate more positive social behaviour, have improved academic outcomes and are less likely to engage in risky and disruptive behaviour.

EVACUATION DRILLS Over the next few weeks we will be conducting random evacuation drills at school. These drills will be explained to students in their classrooms in detail before they commence and are designed to help staff and students gain knowledge of what to do in an emergency situation. If you have any questions regarding these drills, please contact me at school.

SCHOOL POST BOX - NOTES OR PAYMENT FOR OFFICE Most families would not be aware of it but the school office actually has its own post box. We haven't used this for a few years but would like to now reinstate its use. Instead of dropping envelopes for payment or notes on the front desk of school office they can be left in the post box. The post box is located next to the disabled toilets and down from the office door in the court yard next the prep/1 rooms, it will have a “Office Post Box” sign labelling it making it easily visible for the students and their families.

pension day will occur before the student is returned to class.

If students self-exit from the classroom: The student will be given an opportunity to return to the classroom. If the student refuses, parents, carers will be called and the student will be sent home. If the student self-exits a second time, they will not be given an opportunity to return to class. Parents/Carers will

be called and the student will be sent home.

If students refuse to follow teachers’ instructions: Parents will be called and the student will be sent home.
