It was the worst.

Philippe had to stay in his stroller beause his hyper-activity would be unpleasant.

One thing he liked doing was to run into people with a shopping cart. At one point, while he was sitting in his stroller, he touched the thigh of a young lady wearing a mini-skirt because he liked the texture of nylon. Luckily the women laughed at his gesture and did not take it personaly.

On the way to Alert BayOn the way to Alert Bay

This fit simply start because I refused to let Philippe play with a pinball game. He started screaming, hitting and throwing himself on the ground.

Philippe was evaluated by a team of multi-discipline doctors who worked together to evaluation his situation.

In order to study him, they placed him in a room with toys and observed him without letting Philippe see them.

The school system put Philippe in a class of heavy handicap children,none of them could even talk. Hand language was used. It was very difficult getting Philippe out of that class. The schoolboard tried to convince us Philippe was best in that class and would not listen to us. The only reason we got him out was with the help of our doctor, Lise Cardinal.

Precious help

From our local CLSC, a clinic set up by the government to reduce hospital waiting time, we obtained financial help to hire a student, Esther Desjardins, to take care of Philippe a few hours per week.

Also, we started sending Philippe to a home, Repit Tournesol, on weekends were it was specific for autistic children in order to provide parents with a break. He really liked going there because he could play with people and nintendo.
