Under t hi s n ew met hod ofcharging, Narberth's water bill fo r firpprotectioll, with ou r 11 miles of firowuter main, j umps from $420 pe r yenrto within a few dol la rs of $2,900. More, over, t he d ec ree o f t he Pub li c ServiceCOllimission makes the new rate effective as o f Apr il , 1918. It is truothat the boroughs an d townships affectpd have re fused to pay t he n ew c h a r g e ~made b y th o '.Vater Company pendingan uppeal o f t he Public Service Commission's decree to the State SupremaCourt. I t i s repor ted that Cheltenham andAbington, bo th of which have beensupplied w it h wat er f or fire protectionby the Springfield Water Company, haveannounced that they will abandon the\YUter system of fighting fires and willdepend on augmented chemical fir.1fighting apparatus exclusively, bu t it i doubtful whether the eheUlical systemwilI give such communities sufficientprot ec ti on to insure bo th safety and nreasonable firo insurance rate. Someconsideration has already been given tosuch a sub&titute fire protection systemhere in Narberth, b u t n ot a few peoplellavo expressed graV{l doubts as towhether chemical apparatus alone eouldcope adeqately with our local conditions.Furthermore, the State Fire Mu'rshallhas, under a law passed by t he S ta teLegislature in 1915, considerable to sayllbout the firo fighting equipment in boroughs and townships, and it is doubtfulwhether he would O.
