Absence from Assessment ◦ Students who are absent will be given the
assessment papers as practice and the marks will
not be included in the overall mark computation.
◦ Only the following are considered as valid reasons
for absences during assessments:
◦ medical reasons supported by a medical certificate (MC)
from a doctor. MCs from Traditional Chinese Medicine
(TCM) practitioners are not accepted except if the TCM clinic is under the purview of a hospital.
◦ bereavement of family members.
◦ any other reason deemed valid by the school.
Absence from Assessment
◦ A medical certificate or copy of the death
certificate has to be given to the form teacher
when the student returns to school to support
his/her absence.
◦ All other reasons are to be considered on a case-
by-case basis subject to school’s approval.
◦ For students who are absent for an assessment
without a valid reason, a zero mark will be
considered for that assessment and this assessment
mark will be considered in the computation of the
subject and overall total.
Attendance
◦ Attend school regularly
◦ A medical certificate is required if your child is unwell
and unable to attend school.
◦ A supporting document is required for all valid
absences (e.g. external exam, bereavement).

other absences during school term, even after PSLE.

penknives, cutters
◦ Expensive items e.g. jewellery, Apple watch etc.
How to Support Learning At Home
◦ Check Pupil’s Handbook and homework file daily
◦ Plan a timetable with your child
◦ Give your child time to play and rest
◦ Give them sufficient sleep (at least 8 hours)
Monitoring Your Child ◦ Check child’s use of mobile messaging
applications (e.g. WhatsApp). Exit and/or delete
chat groups that carry inappropriate language or
content.
◦ Establish house rules on access to internet-enabled
devices (e.g. through supervised access), and
explain the need for the rules.
◦ Consider use of non-smart phones if primary
objective is for tele-conversation or basic text
messaging.
◦ Configure electronic devices to be child-content
friendly, and password-protect equipment/
applications to prevent your child from using your
electronic devices when you are not at home.
Monitoring Your Child
◦ Use of monitoring applications (e.g. Mobicip, Net
Nanny) to monitor your child’s Internet usage on
the computer, iPad and smartphones. You will be
able to view history reports, set usage limits,
customise Internet filtering and etc.
◦ Enforce limit on daily screen time to no more than
an hour. This includes TV, computer and handheld
devices. Research have shown that too much
time spent on electronic devices may contribute
to disinterest in learning and lethargic behaviour in
the child.
◦ Get the support from the caregivers.
Supporting Your Child
26
◦Nurture the social and emotional
skills of your child using S.A.F.E. tips

Support
27
• Encourage your child to talk to a trusted
adult for guidance.
• Help your child understand decisions
made and actions taken. Share the
reasons for them.
• Keep rules short and realistic.
Affirm
28
◦ Recognise his/her demonstration of good values
or social skills.
◦ Praise your child’s efforts regularly. Only scolding
him/her without providing any justified praise at
other times can be demoralising.
Familiarise
29
◦ Find out what school is like for students. Moderate
your expectations according to your child’s own
strengths and development.
◦ Share information on physical changes during
puberty; include the range of emotions that may
accompany it. (for P5 and P6)
Empathise
◦ Show that you understand your child’s concerns.
Be flexible in guiding your child when necessary
e.g. vary your voice tone at different
circumstances.
◦ Teach with less talk and more role-modelling.
Children learn a lot by simply watching.
30
Spend time chatting using T.A.D.
◦Talk about things that friends might pressure him/her
to do, which can be harmful. e.g. risky dares,
deciding to meet an ‘online friend’
◦Ask your child about interests he/she would like to
explore and what he/she needs to do to develop
them.
◦Discuss a variety of occupations that your child may
be interested to explore.
31
During your conversation with your child
◦ Listen without being distracted. Put aside
whatever you had been doing.
◦ Be prepared to accept your child’s views even
though you may not fully agree with them.
