Operation Christmas Child

Since 1993, more than 100 million boys and girls in over 130 countries have experienced God’s love through the power of simple shoebox gifts from Operation Christmas Child.

Samaritan’s Purse works with local churches and ministry partners to deliver the gifts and share the life-changing Good News of Jesus Christ.

We here at First Baptist Church will again have an opportunity to bring the POWER OF HIS NAME to children around the world! Please be in prayer for this ministry and the impact of these simple gifts!

There will be a time of dedication on Sunday, November 15th during the 8:30 and 11am

worship services. Starting in October be looking in the nursery area hallway for GO BOXES! They will have information and the label for you to take and fill. Shoeboxes may be brought to the central hallway beginning Sunday, October 4

th.

Now is the time to start collecting items for your shoebox. Here are some great things to pack in a shoebox. 1. School Supplies—pens, pencils and sharpeners, crayons or markers, stamps and ink pad sets, writing pads or paper, solar calculators, coloring and picture books, etc.

2. Toys—small cars, balls, dolls, slinky, jump rope, small Etch-A-Sketch, stuffed animals, kazoos, harmonicas, yo-yo’s, toys that light up or make noise (with extra batteries).

3. Hygiene items—toothbrush, tooth paste, mild bar soap (in a plastic bag), comb, brush, washcloth, etc.

4. Hard candy and lollipops, mints, gum (please place all candy in a double plastic bag).

5. T-shirts, socks, ball caps, sunglasses, or hair clips.

6. A Personal Note—In a separate envelope, you may enclose a note to the child and a photo of yourself or your family. (If you include your name and address, the child may write back.)

DO NOT INCLUDE: Used or damaged items; war-related items such as toy guns, knives or military figures; chocolate or food; out-of-date candy; liquids or lotions; medications or vitamins; breakable items such as snow globes or glass containers; or aerosol cans.

Remember to include a $7 donation per box to cover shipping and other project costs. Give online and follow your shoebox to its destination (samaritanspurse.org/occ)

Information on packing and sending shoeboxes will be located in the central hallway. If you have any questions or suggestions about Operation Shoebox please feel free to contact Cathy Green @ 252-241-5026 or email her [email protected].

Looking Ahead November 2015

To all our faithful Upward basketball supporters and those interested in becoming part of the Upward ministry. It’s that time of year again—when we reach out to the youth and their families through Upward basketball.

The purpose of Upward basketball is to provide a positive Christian atmosphere to teach about the love of Jesus Christ through a sports ministry. Upward basketball is open for any boy or girl in grades 1—6.

We are in need of volunteers to work on evaluation nights from 6-8pm on:

Thursday, October 8 (Grades 5 & 6)

Tuesday, October 13 (Grades 1 & 2)

Thursday, October 15 (Grades 3 & 4)

Monday, October 19 (Make-up for all ages)

We need to be set up and ready to go by 5:15pm to keep things flowing. We’ll need approximately 20 people on each night to do the drills, check in the kids, size them and check their height. You do not have to have a vast knowledge of basketball to assist. We need everyone who is willing.

To register your child you may pick up a registration form from the church office or you may download a form from our website at www.fbcmhc.org/upward_basketball. All children who plan to participate must attend one of the evaluations.

If you would like to help or need further information, please contact

Julie Foley at either 222-5735 or [email protected].
