From May to September, our winter is a whale’s summer, and the giants of the deep
journey from the Antarctic for their annual babymoon, breeding, birthing and raising their
calves in our backyard. Along the Whale Trail through Warrnambool, Port Fairy and Portland,
also known as the ‘whale corridor’, you’ll spot Southern Right, Humpback, Blue and the
occasional Orca.
Which path does mama whale need to take to get to her baby whale?

Lady Bay Low LighthouseThe Lady Bay Low Lighthouse in the Flagstaff Maritime Museum at Warrnambool overlooks the bay from which it takes it name.
HistoryThe square tower was originally built in 1854 as one of two obelisks on Flagstaff Hill. The light was originally used in its predecessor, the Beach Lighthouse, built in 1859. This lighthouse was the leading lighthouse but was ineffective due to lack of elevation.
During 1871-72, the light was relocated to the top of the obelisk. At the same time the old Middle Island Lighthouse was relocated stone by stone to replace the other obelisk further up Flagstaff Hill to become the Lady Bay Upper Light.
The light was originally powered by oil, then gas and finally electricity. The Lower Lighthouse is still in use.

Maremma MaskCut around face, punch holes on side and attach string to make your very own Maremma mask.
In a world-first, Maremma dogs were trained and placed on Middle Island to protect the little penguins from foxes during the breeding season.
The project has been a huge success using guardian dogs for conservation and raising community support and awareness of the environment..

The Mahogany MazeThe Mahogany Ship refers to an early Australian shipwreck that is believed by some to lie beneath the sand in the Armstrong Bay area, approximately 3 to 6 kilometres west of Warrnambool.
In many modern accounts it is described as a Spanish or Portuguese caravel after the wreck was associated with the theory of Portuguese discovery of Australia by Kenneth McIntyre in his 1977 book The Secret Discovery of Australia.
