TIP FROM THE TOUR

A huge thankyou to everyone for their support in 2016. Wishing all the members a safe and Merry Christmas, and looking forward seeing all the members in the new year!!!! Jake, Mat and the Boys If your game needs a tune up, see Matt or Jake in the pro shop.

Christmas is just around the corner and all Match Committee members are looking forward to a well earned break. I wish to say thank you to each committee member for the many hours given in making sure competitions run smoothly. Jake and his Pro Shop staff will look after all competitions until Match Committee resume duty on Saturday 21 January 2017. Pennant 2017 – We have a list of players who have expressed interest in possible selection in the seven teams that will compete in 2017 and it is hoped teams will be formed prior to Christmas. The season will begin on 29 January for Handicap team, all other Sunday teams a week later and the two Masters teams to play from 2 February. When Queanbeyan is hosting we will limit the impact on our members and spread matches over the whole day. Sponsor for all teams or even just one would be great, if anyone would be interested please contact me at [email protected] or leave phone details with Jake in Pro Shop. Mixed Foursomes Championship – Saturday 10 December twenty four pairs ventured out in perfect weather conditions for the annual 27 hole event, some new combinations and many returning partners out to do better than last year. It was organised for the game to finish at the 18th and be greeted by watching audience, this finish will

continue for this event and Men’s Foursomes Championship next year. Congratulations to Wendy Lynch and Tasi Lolesio, a one stroke win from Lauren Maher and Daniel Goodchild. Nett winners were Lorraine Greenwood and Ray Hocking ahead of Patsy Morgan and Ian McKenzie. Presentation Evening Saturday – A very enjoyable meal, nice company and prizes aplenty.

Club Champion Lachlan Tisma won almost all major events for the year-Club Championship, Matchplay Championship, Summer Cup, Eclectic gross and was runner-up in Foursomes Championship. Junior member Lachlan De Jongh with Junior Nett Champion, Junior Eclectic nett, most improved junior and topped it off with a Hole in One. I am sure he will be taking home many prizes over the coming years. 20 Holes in One awarded for the past 12 months and a fantastic Albatross by Dom Di Campli.

SUPERINTENDENTS REPORT

2016 has almost passed and what an interesting year it was. Record rains affected us in many ways, with many competition rounds lost through bad weather. The golf course was continuously saturated and unfortunately more rain fell on our comp days. Few braved the conditions, so congratulations to the die hards that enjoy their golf week in week out despite the weather. With the course now completely dried out, we are endeavouring to keep the soil moisture up and the turf healthy, stress free and alive. Green speed won’t be as fast as liked, importance and emphasis this time of year is to keep all areas irrigated where possible. This involves daytime manual watering with late night and early morning staffing to ensure our irrigation is working as well as possible. Please be patient if playing and irrigation is on during the day. It’s done for good reason and will continue. The course has been in great condition with many visitors both locally and interstate enjoying their experience and wanting to

return. The ProAm and ACT Senior Amateur where the highlights and both a great success. The course generally is well looked after by its members. Disappointingly though, a small minority of members when practising insist teeing off areas where blue markers are out for the weekend or from where they think the markers may be. The tees are well grassed and expensive to maintain and keep in that condition, so please treat the course with respect and only tee off from the markers of the day. I would like personally thank our small staff, Jimmy, Richard, Jamie and Mark for their dedicated contribution during 2016, Leigh Blyton, Des’s volunteers, and Pauls work for the dole crew who assisted with many aspects of course maintenance and development. It’s been a satisfying year which I trust you've all enjoyed, and look forward to 2017 in maintaining and improving what we can. From all the greenkeeping staff, we wish you a Happy Christmas and a safe holiday period.

We have had our AGM which resulted in a couple of changes to the makeup of the Board of Directors. Aina Blyton has stood down as Vice President and Chair of the Finance and Administration Committee, thanks to her for all the work she has put in over the past year. Leigh Blyton has been elected unopposed as Vice President for the coming year. Cathy Hanrahan has been elected unopposed as Director, we are all looking forward to working with Cathy over the coming year. All other positions remain unchanged which I believe is very important for the continuity of decision making going forward. The club is still awaiting news of our insurance claims regarding the Cottage fire and the business interruption claim. As I am ever the optimist I am hoping for a Christmas present from our insurers, let’s hope I am right.

I am very pleased to inform you all that our Christmas function numbers have been going through the roof. Thank you to all those people that have thought of the club for their end of year get togethers, it has certainly been a busy time over the past few weeks with more to come this week. Well done to our staff both bar and catering for putting in the extra effort to look after all our guests. As this is the last newsletter for the year I would like to wish you all a very merry Christmas and a happy and prosperous New Year. I will see you in our club and hopefully on the course in the New Year.
