COMPLIMENTARY ACTIVITIES AVAILABLE FOR OUR GUESTS • Self-Guided Walks: Discover by yourself the magnificent diversity of habitats that Playa Cavo’s property has to offer, with an easy 45 to 60-minute hike. Take the trail along the beach all the way to the Buena Vista Pier, and see Cavo Bay from a different perspecve, or loop around and pass by Cayetano’s Organic Farm, where you might find our farmers harvesng fresh vegetables, fruits, herbs or even picking some eggs. Connue to Valle de los Sainos, a place where you may see peccaries, agous, tyras, deer, monkeys and hundreds of birds. Check out the incredibly huge trees from the forest and our abundant fruit trees. At the other end of this valley, you will enter a relavely flat trail that traverses the length of the beach, just shy of the mountains. Explore a variety of habitats including secondary rainforests and scenic views of the wetlands. Noce: Just contact the Adventure Center or Guests Services. If you feel comfortable and a bit daring, stand up and paddle. For those that prefer sing down and go a lile further, kayaks are the way to go. Our staff is available to assist you with the ouing and launching of boards and kayaks. They’ll also be on-hand to receive you upon your return! • River Walk, Waterfall & Swim: This hike to the eastern side of Playa Cativo’s private reserve will take us to the waterfall.The hike stars by going up stream at the Quebrada del Leon, one of the main creeks in Cativo. This tour provides an interestingintroduction to the local ecology (how the different plants, trees, and the rest of the vegetation interacts) and its level ofdifficulty is just perfect to warm up and enjoy the cool waters of the “Lyon’s creek”. • Golfo Dulce Snorkeling Half-Day Trip: Some of the best snorkeling in the Golfo Dulce is right near the lodge. Let us takeyou to Punta Adela for a local dive or Los Mogos for a long range half-day adventure. At low tide, you’ll marvel at the braincoral reefs. At high tides, the underwater rock pinnacles - that mirror the mountaintops - create a habitat for many tropicalreef fish. Golfo Dulce is one of the few tropical fiords in the world, a fact that limits its dive potential. • Piedras Blancas Nature Hike: With the beauty and convenience of the surrounding National Park, Playa Cativo guestsdon’t have to go far to see nature at its best. Networks of trails in nearly every direction from the lodge are waiting foryour discovery. Parts of Playa Cativo are rugged and steep due to its characteristic topography, so trails are rated for different excursion levels, from touring to challenging. The flora of Piedras Blancas National Park is among the richest on the planet, with several thousand different species of plants and hundreds of trees, - some very rare and in danger of extinction. It is very similar to the nearby Corcovado National Park but less travelled. Piedras Blancas has even more tree species than Corcovado. The fauna is composed of approximately 140 species of mammals, 350 species of birds, over 100 amphibians and reptiles and several thousand insects. Get ready to hike through the virgin rainforest. • Dolphin and Whale Sightseeing: Golfo Dulce is one of four tropical fiords around the world, and home to a variety of marine animals and mammals. With large mangrove areas and many rivers flowing into the gulf from the surrounding rainforest, the ocean is rich in minerals. It provides a healthy food source for dolphins (spinner, bottlenose and spotted),humpback whales (from August to November), manta rays, whale sharks and sea turtles. • El Chorro Power Hike: This power hike is for advance nature enthusiasts and it’s available only upon request and mustcomplete a 4 hour Piedras Blancas hike prior to this one. Walking along Cativo’s rainforest reserve boundaries, the expeditionwill take you deep into Piedras Blancas National Park. The variety of conditions, which include steep hills, creeks, mud, andmany obstacles, increase the level of difficulty in this humid environment. The reward is finding El Chorro, a large waterfallin the heart of the Park, seen only by a few adventurers. Keep in mind that the Piedras Blancas National Park is visited byless than 1000 people a year, and 95% of them do not walk these trails. Depending on the weather conditions, most likelywe’ll take a different route on the way back to end up in a different beach, where our boat will be waiting to bring you backto Playa Cativo. • Golfito or Puerto Jimenez Half Day City Tour: The port town of Golfito was built on Bananas, formed in 30’s mainly bythe United Fruit Company that moved its regional headquarters here. In the 1980s, declining markets, rising taxes, workerunrest and banana diseases forced the company’s departure. This tour will take you around the city, the Northern part oftown was the old United Fruit Company headquarters, and it retains a languid, tropical air, with its large veranda-deckedhomes. The guide will explain about the natural and social history, the unique architecture and why the differences in theconstruction of houses while experiencing the current way of life of the Golfiteños.

Puerto Jimenez has grown to become one of the largest towns on the Osa Peninsula. This laidback town is one of the maingateways to the beautiful Corcovado National Park. It has a wonderful beach where you can relax while taking in the superbbeauty of the Gulf. With a history of being a key gold mining and logging town before the Corcovado National Park wascreated, the locals in the area still log and mine gold here, but in much smaller numbers as this entire region is now aprotected habitat. Most locals are nowadays dedicated to eco-tourism and fishing. Golfito and Puerto Jimenez are both about the same distance from Playa Cativo and have access to services like banks,clinics, drugstores, supermarkets and souvenir shops. • Boat Transfers: Do you want to visit Golfito or Puerto Jimenez on your own and explore Osa Peninsula and Drake Bayarea? THIRD PARTY-OPERATED TOURSThese are the most popular tours in the Golfo Dulce area and surroundings. If there is an activity that you like and is notlisted, do not hesitate to contact us. We will be glad to arrange any special requests.

• Osa Wildlife Sanctuary Visit: Have you ever pet a porcupine? Fed a sloth? Or heard the tale of the prehensile tail?Visit the Sanctuary to see and learn about the natural history, the ecological importance and conservation efforts for thewildlife found in the Southern Pacific zone of Costa Rica. Not only do you learn a multitude of interesting facts whileinteracting with some of the wildlife not able to live their natural lives in the wild, but you will be supporting the Foundationthat saves and releases wildlife. • Casa Orquideas Botanical Garden Trip: A 10 minute scenic boat ride along the coast of Golfo Dulce will take us fromCativo Bay to Casa Orquideas Botanic Garden, in San Josecito Beach. Ron and Trudy Macallister created this magnificentgarden with a large variety of tropical plants, trees and orchids. They have been collecting them since 1970, taking advantageof the many exotic species, that biologist and other travelers brought to the area when Golfito was a banana mecca, tocreate this well designed botanic garden located at the bottom of a rainforest hill.Notice: Minimum 24 hours advance notice (closed on Fridays) Included: Guide, boat and entry fee. Price: Visitors $50 p/p • Guests $32 p/p (2 guests’ minimum). Duration: 2 to 3 hours.

• Deep Sea Fishing: Full day deep sea fishing charter. Fish for marlin, sailfish, mahi mahi, yellow fin tuna, amber jack, roosterfish, and other species. Running time varies from 45 minutes to 1:30 hours to find some of the most productive waters inthe world. Please see Customer Service to learn about boat sizes and prices. We strongly suggest making reservationsbefore your arrival to Costa Rica due to the high demand.
