LBDS Dry Run week 7
http://wikis/display/LHCOP/LBDS+Dry+Runs
• Scope week 7 – preparation for scenario “programmed dump beam 1”:
– Trigger Beam Dump system from the control room via timing event directly
– Test point 6 BI in XPOC acquisition mode
– Test sequencer driving the LBDS: programmed dump
– Sort out first version of XPOC analysis and communication to the sequencer
• Outcome week 7:

Timing Table – week 7
Start table event, payload 17 (Hex 11)
Triggered beam dumpIn week 11 it will be the broken permit loop
Normally

BI (1)
• Worked fine in XPOC acquisition mode. Did not look into data integrity.
• Video signals from screens need some attention – will be done for next dry run.
• Fixed displays need to be cleaned up a bit – have too many now.
– BTVs
– BLMs (will only concentrate on the BLMs associated with extration equipment)
– BPMSE, BPMD
– BCTFD
5V. Kain, AB/OP – 26Feb08
BI (2)
6V. Kain, AB/OP – 26Feb08
LBDS equipment and software (1)
• Kickers and protection worked fine.
– OR: AS THEY WERE SPECIFIED.
• Acrobatics to “arm” the system:
– In order to arm LBDS:
• Need to arm BETS
– Need to be below injection engery
• Need to arm IPOC
• Need to arm the kickers
• Need to arm overall LBDS (TSU together with BIS, removes injection permit)
• Could get ourselves into situations (BEM interlock), where we could not arm anymore
• BEM interlock: energy freezes – need to be below 450 GeV to arm
• Without “stop”, “start”, “reset”, “rearm” could not have got back
• Sorted out for next dry run
LBDS Control and Monitoring GUI (M. Albert)
Week 7
7V. Kain, AB/OP – 26Feb08
LBDS equipment and software (2)
• Artificial energy reference – BETS simulator:
To not generate interlock, need slow ramps up and down
8V. Kain, AB/OP – 26Feb08
Sequence
• Overall result: we could drive the whole system through the sequencer without any problem!!!
• A couple of improvements required:
– Cannot set time without SQL script on LSA DB
– If-else statements are required to describe complicated state machines of LBDS system:
• They must be automatically executed and “old” sequence automatically resumed
– Looping
– RBAC for certain sub-sequences/tasks: e.g. if “reset” of BETS required
• Improvements will be there for the next dry run
– Except RBAC
9V. Kain, AB/OP – 26Feb08
XPOC
• Had the first version of the overall system. Looks already promising…
• Was triggered with timing event “beam 1 dumped” to start data collection and analysis as in final version
• Data collection needs to be improved (exception handling,…)
– Now everything written to SDDS
– Might partly go to logging DB
• Improvements required for next dry run:
– Analysis not yet integrated with XPOC server
– Results and state not yet published via JMS for logging and SIS; written to DB only for the time being
– GUI is required
– More XPOC specific comments see WIKI: http://wikis/display/LHCOP/XPOC+status

Next Dry Run
• Scope week 11:
– Beam dump system beam 1: programmed dumps
• Local permit loop
• RF simulated revolution frequency
• Programmed dumps via timing system to break permit loop
• LBDS triggered by broken permit loop
• Still to sort out:
– Arming, XPOC, BETS Simulator, Sequencer follow-up
– Permit loop – fibers, copper cables to LBDS
– BIC/BIS FESA classes to arm, link/unlink permit loops
– BIS supervision
– Timing CIBU, test of detection of broken permit loop
– Remove input of direct BLMs to TSU
– LASS to be strapped
– TSU tested
– N2 pressure and line vacuum display
• Lower priority
– Sequence modified to take all that into account

Conclusions
OVERALL SUCCESSFUL FIRST DRY RUN…
