Cookies, Carols, and Crèches: Once again the church came together to

enjoy the wide variety of sounds of the season. The bells provided us with a

western hoedown take on traditional carols, while the members of the

Cathedral Choir serenaded the audience with both traditional carols and songs

including “Santa Baby” and the Grinch! The Choristers jumped in on the

action, providing a sneak peak at one of their Christmas Eve anthems,

“Somebody’s Talkin’ ‘Bout Jesus.” Many families brought in nativity scenes

to share from all over the world. After the program, all enjoyed cookies baked

by the youth group and many others who sent in their best Christmas cookie

recipes. A special thank you to those who put together the program, set up and

cleaned up, and who brought in nativities and cookies to share.

OUTLOOK

As of Thursday morning, December 14,

2017 pledges and contributions to the

Capital Fund Campaign total $206,434.

We have received pledges and gifts from

86 “giving units” which may represent a

single person, a couple, or a family.

We are all invited to support this

campaign to fund the renovation of the

campus including an elevator, handicap restroom, ramps, an open plaza at Broadway

and Kenwood, and a scattering garden and columbarium.

Please remember that the Foundation is eager to match giving on a 2 to 1 basis;

that is for every $2.00 given, the Foundation will add another $1.00 to the total. With

this matching grant added, we now have a campaign total of $309,591.

FINANCIAL PEACE - January 28 through March 18, 2018

As Jesus speaks repeatedly about money and its use, we can wonder how we might

better employ this blessing as it is provided to us. The Financial Peace University offers a

nine-week consideration of stewardship of these gifts from the perspective of faith.

During these sessions, the various aspects of financial decisions in our era will be

explored. These will include developing discussion among those responsible for family

finances, credit card use, financing large purchases, retirement funding, charitable giving, wills and

legacies and other matters of concern for all who wish to live harmoniously regarding questions of wealth.

This series of practical seminars will be held on Sunday evenings beginning January 28 and

concluding March 18. Printed materials will enable people to extend learning.

Look for the announcement of signups for these seminars.

Faith and Film - Bernie The film to be presented at January’s Faith and Film program will be

Bernie, starring Jack Black, Shirley MacLaine and Matthew McConaughey.

. In small-town Texas, an affable mortician strikes up a friendship with a

wealthy widow, though when she starts to become controlling, he goes to great

lengths to separate himself from her grasp.

Faith and Film will be offered at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, January 5 in room

151. A potluck luncheon precedes conversation about the film. All are invited to

join others in enjoying the film and discussing how the story reflects and informs

our faith.

Faith and Film will also be presented on Friday January 19 at 7:00 p.m. in

room 151. A light supper is included.
