OUTREACH RSPNRSPN
The Rural Support Programmes (RSPs) aim to reduce poverty and improve quality of life of the rural poor by harnessing their potential to manage their own development through their own institutions.
?Mr. Shoaib Sultan Khan, Chairman RSPN, was appointed a member of the Civil Society Advisory Committee of the Federal Ombudsman's Office and attended its first meeting on March 15, 2010.
?Ms. Shandana Khan, CEO RSPN, met with the representative of the Planning Commission, Government of Pakistan, to provide inputs on the Poverty Reduction Chapter for the next Five Year Plan.
?Mr. Abid Saeed, CEO PRSP, briefed the Chief Minister of the Punjab on the PRSP-managed 'Chief Minister's Primary Healthcare Initiative' funded by the Government of Punjab.
?The Government of Pakistan conferred the Tamgha e Imtiaz on Dr. Sono Khangharani, CEO, TRDP and SRSO, on
rd23 March 2010 in recognition of his services to the poor people of the Sindh Province.
?In collaboration with the Ministry of Youth Affairs RSPN arranged a workshop on “Youth & Civil Society” held at Islamabad
thon 18 March 2010. The event was attended by nearly 200 participants from organizat ions working for youth development in Pakistan.
?At the invitation of the Ministry of Youth Affairs, GoP, RSPN nominated Mr. Shabul Aziz from LSO Zulfiqarabad Area Development Organization (Gilgit), to

Highlights of the Quarter January-March 2010
attend the first ONE YOUNG WORLD SUMMIT held from February 8-10, 2010 in London. The Summit was organised by One Young World, an INGO and the UK Ministry of Youth. A number of world leaders addressed the conference.
?Ms. Sassui Palejo, Minister of Culture and Tourism, Government of Sindh and Mr. Mahesh Kumar Malani, MNA, visited the TRDP Programme Area.
?AJKRSP celebrated the inauguration of the first Tehsil Support Network of Local Support Organisations (LSOs) in Tehsil Patika, District Muzaffarabad. Mr. Shoaib Sultan Khan, Chairman RSPN and over 4,000 community members, 70% of them women, attended the ceremony.
?RSPN signed an agreement with UNICEF to assist the Federal and Provincial Governments in preparing an Umbrella PC-1 and strategies on sanitation.
?RSPN, in partnership with UNICEF, PIEDAR, WaterAid, UNHABITAT, WSP-SA (World Bank), and Plan Pakistan, assisted the Ministry of Environment in finalizing the National Sanitation Action Plan for 2010-2015.
?A 5 member Norwegian Government delegation, headed by Professor Lie, Health Advisor to the Prime Minister of Norway, visited the Mother and Child Health Care Initiative Project in District Larkana on 27-28 January 2010. The delegation met with the DCO Larkana, media representatives, the EDO Health and others. They appreciated the efforts of UNICEF, the Government, RSPN and SRSO. Professor Lie remarked upon the need to replicate the UNICEF/RSPN model in other developing counties.
?A two member USAID Pakistan delegation, led by Ms. Mary Cobb, Deputy Chief of Health, visited the Family Advancement for Life and Health (FALAH) Project in
thDistrict Thatha on March 9 2010. The delegation met with the several community members and appreciated the efforts of RSPN and NRSP staff.
?The RSPN-commissioned a film on Women Activists has been completed and is now available in Urdu, Pashto, and English. The Sindhi and Punjabi versions will will be available soon. The film will be used in training programmes across the country.
?The RSPN M&E unit has completed a case study: “Children @ Schools: Children's Perspectives on the Strategic Child Rights Protection Programme of the Thardeep Rural Development Programme It will be available soon on the RSPN website.
?RSPN organised an experience-sharing workshop on March 24-25, 2010 for the 20 participants of the 2009 Training of Trainers in Social Mobilisation from RSPs.

Manual (in English) was published and disseminated to the RSPs and other stakeholders. RSPN organised an orientation workshop on this manual, on March 29-31, 2010 for 24 participants from the RSPs.
?The Community Investment Fund Operational Manual in English, Urdu and Sindhi has been published and disseminated to the RSPs and other stakeholders. RSPN also organised an orientation workshop on the Community Investment Fund Operational Manual for 30 participants from RSPs.
?The Pakistan Domestic Biogas Programme has completed 172 biogas plants, formed 23 Biogas Construction Companies and trained 95 masons. A pilot research initiative on bio-slurry benefits and application is in process.
?RSPN organised an experience-sharing and learning workshop for the RSPs' M&E staff 15-16 March 2010.
?A week-long training course on application of the Statistical Package for Social Scientists (SPSS) was held for RSPN MER staff members.
?RSPN organised the second Gender Dialogue with
RSP CEOs on 29-30 March, 2010. The CEOs made commitments concerning mainstreaming gender concerns into their programming. It was decided that the Boards would also be requested to hold gender-sensitisation sessions.
?The Gender Resource Group meetings was held on 15-16 April, 2010in Mardan and Islamabad. The focus was gender issues in the UC Poverty Reduction Programmes.
?In the community-led video documentation initiative, videos have been received from LSO Gindhar in Mastung and LSO Mirza Ali Mohammad Foundation in Kotli Sattian.
?AJKRSP signed an MOU with the World Food Programme (WFP) for piloting School Safety Project in 100 Girls Primary Schools of District Muzaffarabad. The pilot is planned to be completed in 4 months and project will be scaled up to reach all 5,000 schools in AJK.
?AJKRSP has taken over the field operations of AJK
Community Development Program in Kotli, Mirpur, Bhimber and Neelum Districts.
?Mr. Abdul Wahid, Managing Director STEVTA and Mr Ghulam Serwar, Director Works and Services visited the SRSP UCBRSP activities and met with the women participants of the vocational training programme.
?Delegations from Punjab Rural Support programme and Balochistan Rural Support programme visited the SRSO's Union Council Based Poverty Reduction programme.
