Over the course of her vibrant and multi-faceted musical career, Dr. Vedrana Subotic has distinguished herself as an acclaimed concert artist, pedagogue, chamber musician, and concert producer. Dr. Subotic, a Steinway Artist, is an Associate Professor-Lecturer of Music at the University of Utah, and is the President and Music Director of INTERMEZZO, an acclaimed concert series based in Salt Lake City, Utah. She teaches piano performance students in the Bachelor, Masters, and Doctoral programs at the University of Utah, as well as the highly sough-after course in professional career development. Dr. Subotic is the chief producer of the live- streaming faculty concert series (Live@Libby) and Director of theTeacher Development piano pedagogy seminars. As a concert pianist, Dr. Subotic has won acclaim from critics and audiences for her “Pierce playing,” and “impressive chops” (Salt Lake Tribune,), and her “nuanced and expressive playing, beautifully phrased lines, and a wonderfully light touch.” (Reichelrecommends, Deseret News). The online arts magazine 15 Bytes wrote about her recent Schubert concert “one of the most intuitively verdant and emotionally draining performances of any of Franz Schubert’s compositions that I have ever heard, live or on a recording…truly astonishing.” Dr. Subotic’s musical career began at age nine, when her performance of Debussy’s piano works for children aired on national television in her native country, the former Yugoslavia. Upon winning the top prize in Yugoslavia's National Piano Competition at age nineteen, she moved to the United States. Dr. Subotic has since been active as a soloist and a chamber musician in the Americas and Europe, where she performs in dozens of concerts a year, combining concerto appearances, solo recitals, chamber music collaborations, and orchestral performances. Recent performances include several solo appearances with the Utah Symphony; and with the Utah Chamber Artists orchestra, playing both Chopin piano concertos back-to-back; performances of Beethoven’s Pifth piano concerto with Timpanogos Symphony and the Dubrovnik Symphony; concert tours in Puerto Rico and Chile, the Utah premier of Alban Berg’s Chamber Concerto, and a performance of ProkoPiev’s third piano concerto at the Chautauqua Festival in New York.
