Over view of usefulness of nuclear power and its processesBy Xavier Midgley

The process of nuclear powerThere are 2 types of nuclear energy:nuclear fission involves the splitting of the nuclei of fissile fuels that have large atoms, such as isotopes uranium 235 and plutoniumnuclear fusion involves the joining of the nuclei of small atoms such as isotopes hydrogen 2 and hydrogen 3Fission is more commercially viable at the moment but fusion is still in research

Usefulness of nuclear powerIt has the highest energy density out of all available resources to us as shown by this tableThis means that you can get a lot of energy out of little of the resource making it very productive and you can transport more energy by using nuclear instead of things like fossil fuels

Why we dont use much nuclear powerNumbers of factors that have limited the growth of nuclear power:the technology is very complex so its difficult to use in less technologically advanced societies. Ledc dont have tech to make nuclear plants yet so they use fossil fuelsthe complex technology makes it expensivethere is strong opposition to nuclear power in some countries. Some countries see it as dangerous and associate it with nuclear weaponsuncertainty over long term disposal of radioactive wasteuncertainty over the total cost of decommissioning them we dont know the cost of this because we havent decommissioned any yet
