For more than 30 years, ESPN’s College GameDay has been the premier college football show on Saturday mornings.

College GameDay has featured Florida State 34 times, including at least once in seven of the past 10 seasons.

n The Seminoles rank fifth in the country in all-time GameDay appearances (34) and sixth in number of times hosted (11).

n College GameDay’s first on-campus appearance was for the Florida State-Notre Dame “Game of the Century” in 1993, and six weeks later the Seminoles would validate that attention by earning their first national championship with a victory over Nebraska in the Orange Bowl.

n When College GameDay visits Tallahassee, the Seminoles are 7-4 with wins over Notre Dame, Clemson (2), Miami (2) and Florida (2).

n ESPN’s production takes place on the newly renovated Langford Green, allowing fans to tailgate and enjoy each other’s company in preparation for the big game.

n College GameDay analyst Lee Corso is a Florida State alum and one of the top athletes in FSU history.

n Corso joined the College GameDay show at its launch in 1987 and became renowned for his headgear selections at the end of each show.

n Corso was a quarterback and cornerback for the Seminoles in the mid-1950s before launching a coaching career that lasted nearly 30 years.

n Nicknamed “The Sunshine Scooter” for his speed on the football field, Corso also played baseball for the Seminoles and was a college roommate of teammate and future movie star Burt Reynolds.

n Corso is the only remaining member of the original College GameDay crew and now works with Rece Davis and analysts Kirk Herbstreit and Desmond Howard. Corso is famous for his catchphrase, “Not so fast, my friend!”

n Florida State is routinely one of the most attractive draws for television partners and viewers.

n Florida State’s 2017 season opener vs. Alabama in Atlanta’s brand-new Mercedes-Benz Stadium was the most-watched college football kickoff weekend matchup ever with more than 12,000,000 viewers. It was the most-watched non-conference regular season game of 2017 and the highest-rated game all season on ABC.

n The 2018 season opener, a primetime Labor Day broadcast on ESPN, was the sixth-highest viewing audience for a college football game during the entire season across all networks.

n In a special ceremony prior to the Florida game on November 20, 2004, the field at Doak Campbell Stadium was dedicated to former head coach Bobby Bowden.

n Bowden won his 200th career game on the field in 1990. Bowden’s 300th win at Florida State came against Maryland in 2007 on the field that bears his name.

n Beginning in 2016, Florida State has hosted the Doak After Dark concert series, featuring some of the top names in music playing on the same field as the FSU football team.

n Country artists Old Dominion and Tyler Farr kicked off the series in 2016. Blake Shelton and Florida State alum Jake Owen performed in the spring of 2017, and Cole Swindell played Doak after the Delaware State game in November 2017. The 2018 season featured a concert from OutKast’s Big Boi and Tallahassee native T-Pain following the Wake Forest game.

n In collaboration with an overall “throwback” theme around head coach Willie Taggart’s first Garnet & Gold Spring Game, 1990’s music staples Rob Base, Salt-N-Pepa and Vanilla Ice closed down Doak Campbell Stadium with a performance in front of more than 60,000 fans. The 2019 spring game included another throwback concert featuring MC Hammer, Tone Loc and Color Me Badd.

n In addition to the Doak After Dark series, Florida State hosts a Friday Night Block Party in CollegeTown just south of the stadium before every home game. Among the acts that have performed during the Block Party over the years include Florida Georgia Line, Jake Owen, Sam Hunt, Blake Eldredge and Corey Smith, among many others.

Head coach Willie Taggart prioritizes professional development with the Florida State football team, as it is his goal to not only have student-athletes graduate but to leave FSU with a job. The Seminoles are able to take advantage of many development opportunities, including professional internships, leadership retreats and community service outreach.

Linebacker DeCalon Brooks led the team with more than 60 hours of community service during the 2018-19 school year and was named an ACC Top Six for Service recipient. Brooks worked with many organizations, including American Red Cross, Kickin’ it for Autism and Big Bend Hospice while also serving as the football team’s liaison for student services.

The Musial Awards recognized Travis Rudolph’s inspiring friendship with Bo Paske, a Tallahassee middle schooler with autism that he befriended during a visit to Montford Middle School in August of 2016. Rudolph saw Paske eating by himself, was photographed and the image soon went viral, thanks to Bo’s mother, Leah. When the outpouring of support for the duo went national, Rudolph presented Bo and Leah with a personalized jersey and tickets to the season opener against Ole Miss in Orlando. Both Leah and Bo were on hand when Travis was picked up by the New York Giants as an undrafted free agent.

He was one of 11 award winners for Extraordinary Sportsmanship. The Musial Awards are presented by Maryville University and produced by the St. Louis Sports Commission and National Sportsmanship Foundation in honor of longtime Cardinals baseball player Stan Musial.

XOS DIGITAL EXCHANGEThe Florida State Sports Information Office has partnered with XOS Digital in order to provide over-the-air television stations with instantaneous access to video content. The partnership involves the use of the company’s Digital Media Xchange Server that will allow television stations to pull down video content year round. The data transfer speed is much faster than a traditional FTP service allowing very large files to be downloaded in just minutes.

The password-protected video FTP site will be hosting Monday press conferences with Florida State Football Head Coach Willie Taggart.

If you have an interest in creating an account that gives you access to the video weekly, please email Elliott Finebloom ([email protected]). If you are looking for access just for a particular game week, please email prior to that game to set up a guest account.

SOCIAL MEDIAFlorida State Sports Information is making a continued effort in 2019-20 to utilize social media outlets as another way of passing information to our fans and those who cover our programs. FSU Football’s twitter account @FSUFootball and Instagram feed @FSUfootball provide updated information and behind-the-scenes news as does the Noles’ Facebook page - facebook.com/FSUFootball.

All media who wish to cover FSU athletics will be expected to comply with all the procedures of the University, ACC and FSU Sports Information Office in order to be credentialed. Procedures will be provided in detail at the start of the 2019-20 athletic year.

VOICE OF THE NOLES STILL BOOMING IN 41ST YEAR

Gene Deckerhoff joined an elite list of esteemed radio broadcasters when he called his 400th Florida State football game against Virginia in 2011 and is approaching his 500th game called (495). Now in his 41st season, the Jacksonville native and Florida grad moved to Tallahassee for the job he has held since the 1979 season.

Deckerhoff was selected over two other broadcasters of some note - Tom Mees, who became a national figure at ESPN, and Craig Sager, who was best known for his NBA work with Turner Sports.

A bona fide legend in broadcasting and one of only four announcers ever inducted into the Florida Sports Hall of Fame, Deckerhoff has also called FSU basketball since 1974 and been the voice of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers since 1989.

In 2015, Deckerhoff was presented with the prestigious Lindsey Nelson Award for broadcasting excellence. He has been honored with the Florida Sportscaster of the Year Award 14 times and is a member of the Florida State University Athletics Hall of Fame. In 2013, Deckerhoff won the National Football Foundation Chris Schenkel Award.

The only FSU football games he has missed were bowl games that the school did not have the rights to broadcast.

Anyone who has visited the second floor broadcast facilities in the Moore Athletic Center has seen them - the two very large, yet overcrowded trophy cases in the Seminole Productions area. That’s because each and every year, Florida State’s Seminole Productions is recognized for excellence. With an experienced, award-winning professional staff and talented students, Seminole Productions is viewed as a leader in sports production, graphics, and visual communications. ESPN executives visited the state of the art SP facility and were so impressed, that they set in motion the groundwork to form a strategic partnership with Seminole Productions.

Seminole Productions was the first ACC member to produce a spotlight live event for ESPN’s main linear channel when it produced the 2017 NCAA Women’s Softball Tallahassee Regional Championship Game and five other games that weekend. SP also produced the final home football contest in 2017 vs ULM for ESPN. Since then, Seminole Productions has produced over 50 Live Linear Events for ESPN and even the SEC Network. SP has also produced hundreds of ACC Network/ESPN3 broadcasts. ESPN has also contracted Seminole Productions to produce live events and show programming for their sports networks including ACC Network Extra, ESPN3, ESPN2, and ESPNU. SP produced Live Events for ESPN include Football Pro Day, Football National Signing Day, and Football Spring Games, as well as Baseball, Basketball, Soccer, Softball, Volleyball, Tennis, and also multiple NCAA Championships, just to name a few.

Seminole Productions, with the help of FSU Athletics, also recently completed a multi-million-dollar renovation to its control room’s and studio facilities. The new and enhanced state of the art facility is now capable of running multiple network broadcasts and video board productions simultaneously. The new broadcast areas are so advanced that major networks can run their broadcasts out of Seminole Productions control rooms without the need of expensive broadcast TV and satellite trucks. These multimillion dollar upgrades will be completed prior to the launch of the ACC Network.

Established in 1987, Seminole Productions handles virtually every video production need for Florida State Athletics. It produces Inside Seminole Football, Leonard Hamilton, Sue Semrau and Inside Seminole Baseball TV shows, Seminole Gametime Behind the Scenes, as well as Seminole Sports Magazine and other contracted shows for major networks. Seminole Productions also provides all of the production elements and support for Seminole Vision, the in-game entertainment productions for all Florida State football,

basketball and baseball home contests with more in-venue videoboards coming on-line soon. Creating the perfect blend of high-tech wizardry with outstanding Seminole sports action is a big part of what Seminole Productions is all about. Seminole Productions also provides visual communication support for the government and other agencies throughout the State of Florida.

Over the years, Seminole Productions has won over 350 national and international awards in a variety of production and graphics categories. It has been recognized for its work with Florida State athletics for TV programs, coach and program support, and for content running on FSU’s Big Screen displays. SP staff members have even nominated for multiple Emmy Awards over the years.

Beyond its professional work, Seminole Productions main mission is one of teaching and is a part of the FSU College of Communications and Information. Director Mark Rodin is a Faculty member and Executive Producer Jim Garbarino and Sr. Director Kirby Kander are adjunct professors for the College. FSU Communications students get to learn from industry professionals while working on real world professional productions for national networks learning their craft on state of the art equipment. Seminole Productions has placed students in the broadcasting and film industries everywhere from New York to Los Angeles and with professional sports teams nationwide.
