Vineet Bewtra Vineet is responsible for leading Omidyar Network's education-related investments across Africa, as well as globally applicable platforms coming out of Europe. He has also led the firm's involvement in social impact bonds, and co-led its involvement in the Global Innovation Fund. He joined Omidyar Network in mid-2011, before which he spent three years as an investment manager at The Children's Investment Fund Foundation, where he was responsible for the foundation’s work in educational achievement, concentrating on Sub-Saharan Africa and India. His work at Omidyar Network and CIFF has included ed-tech, after-school, early childhood, K-12, and remedial education, and school-based deworming programs. Previously, Vineet worked for 14 years in Europe’s structured and illiquid fixed income markets. He served as managing director at Dresdner Kleinwort, running a proprietary investment desk and was a member of the firm’s Underwriting Committee. MARIO CALDERINI Mario Calderini, a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Manchester is full Professor at Politecnico di Milano, School of Management, where he teaches Strategy and Social Innovation and chairs the Alta Scuola Politecnica, the honour program jointly managed by Politecnico di Milano and Torino. He is the Executive Vice President of Fondazione Politecnico. He is the Director of Tiresia, the School of Management’s research centre for impact finance and innovation. He is a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Minister of University Research and Innovation and a Government’s Sherpa for the G7 Italian Presidency 2017. His numerous publications in highly ranked international journals cover several topics in the field of innovation and social impact finance. He has been a member of the G8 Task Force for Social Impact Investment, he chaired the Italian Advisory Board on Social Impact Finance, he is the President of the Scientific Committee of the Social Impact Agenda for Italy. ERIC CAMPOS Eric Campos has a strong experience in the field of retail banking, both in France and abroad, as well as in development assistance. After a first experience with an African agribusiness company, he joined the French Development Agency in 1993 to conduct programme evaluation missions and development assistance projects in the African, Caribbean and Pacific region. In 1996, he was appointed Deputy Managing Director at the financial company for development of Ile de la Réunion, very active both in social housing and in solidarity economy. ELENA CASOLARI Elena is co-founder and Executive President of Opes Impact fund, the first Italian investment vehicle targeting early stage social enterprises in East Africa, India aimed at contributing in covering the “pioneer gap” in the impact investing industry. JULIO GARRIDO-MIRAPEIX Julio is a founder of, a Partner and the Head of KPMG International Development Advisory Services (IDAS) Africa. Julio has advised key government institutions, donors, civil society organisations and private companies in over 40 countries in Africa and Latin America. SHAY GARVEY Shay is a founding partner of Frontline Ventures and one of the most active and experienced early-stage technology investors in Europe. Shay has invested in over 30 early-stage European tech companies. CLAUDIUS GUTEMANN Claudius Gutemann is part of the Artha Initiative associated with Rianta Capital Zurich, an England- and Switzerland-based single family office. Claudius joined Rianta’s Zurich office in 2010 as Investment Controller and was between 2012 and 2015 responsible for the family office’s overall controlling and reporting function. PETER HELLER Dr. Peter Heller is the co-founder and executive director of the Canopus Foundation. He studied economics and philosophy at the universities of St.Gallen, Lausanne (Switzerland) and Freiburg (Germany) and holds a PhD degree in economics. From 1990 to 1997 he was deputy mayor for environmental protection at the Freiburg city council. He is co-founder of the Basel Agency for Sustainable Energy (BASE) and member of the board of trustees of BASE Foundation in Basel (Switzerland). PETER SUREK Peter Surek (40) is a retail banker with almost 20 years of experience in different CEE markets. He started his career in Tatra banka (Raiffeissen Bank International subsidiary in Slovakia) from the bottom and spent 8 years going through almost all the positions in the retail branch network - from teller to regional director. Within Raiffeisen Bank International he was managing multiple projects in Austria, Albania and Croatia focused on MIS, pricing and affluent banking. In 2009-2011 he co-founded the new direct bank ZUNO, heading products and business processes development. In 2011 he joined Erste Group as the head of the new established Retail MIS unit. After getting to know the social background of Erste, he decided to leave his retail career for developing social banking in the CEE countries. Since May 2013 he leads the new created unit Social banking development, reporting directly to Erste Group CEO. Additionally he holds CEO position in good.bee holding and chairs the Supervisory Board of good.bee credit, a microfinance institution in Romania.

LUC TAYART DE BORMS Luc is the Managing Director of the King Baudouin Foundation. He served in the board of several organisation: the ‘European Foundation Centre’, President (June 2000 - June 2002), Vice-President (June 2002 - 2004) and Treasurer (2011 - 2013), the ‘Council on Foundations US’ (2002 - 2005) and the ‘International Committee’ (2002 - 2006). XAVIER THAURON Xavier has a 25 years experience in private equity after 5 years as SME banker, first in charge of growth capital in the PE structure of the French Banque Populaire Group where he was sponsor of the European Business and Innovation Network (EBN), then Head of Risks at Natixis Private Equity with a large diversified and international portfolio in Europe, Brazil, India and China. In 1987, he developed a venture philanthropy strategy for Natixis with the sponsoring of EVPA annual meetings and Knowledge Center along with an investment in PhiTrust Partenaires, as the first institutional investor in this first French social impact fund and he has been member of its investment committee since then. He is today Head of Social Investment of PhiTrust Partenaires. He is also member of the Investment Committee of IDF Active and IDF Capital (two regional funds specialized on social investment and small LBOs) and expert for 1001Pact (the only French crowdequity platform dedicated to social impact) and Dream Act (commercial site selecting ethical products). He is member of the board of Swiss Fresh Water (water purification in developed countries) and AMSI (micro franchise of Adie). Dr. VOLKER THEN Volker Then has been the Executive Director and founder of the Centre for Social Investment at Heidelberg University since 2006. Previously, he worked at the Bertelsmann Foundation (Guetersloh, Germany), where he served as Director Philanthropy and Foundations from 1999 to 2006 and built the philanthropy division of the foundation. Prior to this assignment, beginning in 1995, Volker Then was the Director of Cultural Orientation of the Bertelsmann Foundation, after he had joined the foundation as a program manager in 1994. He had earned his Ph.D. in social history from the Free University of Berlin. He holds an M.A. from Bielefeld University in History, Sociology and Economics and has studied at the universities at Tübingen, Bielefeld and Oxford (St. Antony's College).

CHRIS WEST Chris completed his Doctorate in Ecology at the University of Oxford. He then set up his own business in the environmental services sector. Following the successful UK and international growth of this company, he took on the position of senior environment adviser at the UK Department for International Development. As an adviser to UK Ministers he worked with a wide variety of donors, governments, NGO’s and corporates in over 60 developing countries and emerging economies. Chris was involved in early discussions around the creation of the Shell Foundation and joined soon after its launch in 2000 as Deputy Director. He managed the Foundation as Director until early 2015. In this role he reinforced an “enterprise-based” approach to catalysing scalable and sustainable solutions to global development challenges, and the “shared value” concept of corporates in society. As a pioneer in venture philanthropy, Chris has led in founding and scaling-up a range of social enterprises.

KAREN WILSON Karen is the Founder of GV Partners and has been working as a consultant at the OECD since 2009 where her work has focused on innovation, entrepreneurship, and finance - including angel investment, venture capital, social impact investment. She has had a longstanding involvement with the European Venture Philanthropy Association (EVPA). Karen is also a Senior Fellow at Bruegel (an international economics think tank), an Associate Fellow at Said Business School at Oxford University and a Visiting Lecturer at the Stockholm School of Economics in Riga. She received, with honors, a Bachelors of Science in Mathematics and Management from Carnegie Mellon University and an MBA from Harvard Business School.

BERNARD UYTTENDAELE – Chief Executive Officer Bernard Uyttendaele joined EVPA as new Chief Executive in August 2016. Uyttendaele knows both the non-profit and business worlds. He started his career as Credit Manager and Treasurer at Otis Elevator Company in Belgium and France before becoming CFO and Deputy Director in the Netherlands. In 2001 he moved to telecom company Orange, sitting on the Board of the company until it sold to T-Mobile. From 2007 Uyttendaele was Director of his own company, Azure, focused on the redevelopment of organisations and optimisation of their business model. Most recently Bernard worked as Managing Director of War Child in the Netherlands. Under his three-year leadership, the organisation grew by fifty per cent, attracted more private and SME donors, and became more firmly established internationally. Bernard also co-founded War Child’s Business Friends Network; a network of business owners supporting War Child’s projects. He sits on the Board of one philanthropic organisation: Dioraphte Foundation.

PRISCILLA BOIARDI – Knowledge Center Director Priscilla Boiardi joined EVPA in April 2014 as Research Manager and became EVPA's Knowledge Centre Director in April 2016. Priscilla has more than 8 years of research experience, first as a Research Associate at the Vlerick Business School and then as a PhD candidate at the Catholic University of Leuven. She has a strong expertise in research for business and public bodies, both qualitative and quantitative. Priscilla holds a MSc (Hons) in Economics and Management of Public Administrations and International Institutions from the Bocconi University in Milan. She is an Italian national and speaks Italian, English and Spanish.

ELS DEPOORTERE – Operations Director Els Depoortere is in charge of the operational running of the Association and manages the Annual Conference & Gathering of Leaders. Els is a Belgian national who joined EVPA in May 2013. She holds a Master in Economics from the University of Leuven (KUL) as well as a postgraduate degree in French Language and Literature from Université Blaise Pascal in Clermond-Ferrand, France. She has worked in several positions in Office and Event Management in the cultural sector and has also been Human Resources Manager in a marketing company. Els speaks English, French and Dutch fluently.

DANIEL ROSTRUP – Community & Market Development Director Daniel Rostrup is based in London and leads the Community & Market Development team, spread across Brussels, Paris, Berlin and Warsaw. The team manages the EVPA membership, organises engagements and builds the market for VP/SI throughout Europe. He also leads the EVPA task group on Corporate Social Impact Vehicles and has a keen interest in unlocking the potential for corporations to scale innovations that have real societal impact. Previously, he helped launch and manage Thomson Reuters Foundation’s global pro bono legal service, TrustLaw. He also has experience in the US and UK working with social entrepreneurs to scale their ventures.

CHRISTINA WU – Community Manager

Christina Wu joined EVPA in May 2016. Before, she worked in marketing communications at the British Columbia Council for International Education in Canada. Prior to that, she was employed at Nokia, where she focused on their mobile gaming business. In 2006, she co-founded a charity, Global Agents, which invests globally in early stage social enterprises. More recently, she worked in South Africa as the Business Operations Manager intern for SPARK Schools, a portfolio company of the Pearson Affordable Learning Fund. She completed her MBA at ESADE in Spain and obtained her BBA in Canada. She is Canadian and speaks English, Cantonese, and some Spanish and French.

ELINOR DE PRET – Head of Policy

Elinor de Pret joined EVPA in March 2014, after almost ten years working in Public Affairs for the European Commission in China and with a consultancy in Brussels. A Board member of a Belgian foundation focusing on education, Elinor is also involved in the first Belgian social impact bond and has been a member of the Belgian Ashoka Support Network since 2010. She holds a Master in Business Engineering (Namur) and in European Economics from the College of Europe (Bruges), attended the Oxford Impact Investing Executive Programme and completed the Certificate in Management of Social Enterprises at the ULg.

IOANA TRAISTA – Communications Manager Ioana joined EVPA in April 2017 with a strong desire to raise awareness about venture philanthropy. Before EVPA, she worked as Communications and Fundraising Manager for PACT Foundation, a community development organisation in Romania. Ioana’s vision is a community that values close ties and relations, offers equal opportunities, and respect for every person, and gives everybody the opportunity to make their own choices. Ioana has volunteered and worked for a wide range of non-governmental organizations in the area of communication and fundraising: PRIME Romania, Greener, Chance for Life, and GRASP (Global Romanian Society of Young Professionals). She has a Bachelor in Communication and Public Relations within the University of Bucharest. In 2010 she graduated from a master’s program in European Communication Studies within the University of Amsterdam. After the master, she did an internship program within the European Agency for Fundamental Rights in Vienna, Austria.
