Location• Located the region of Puglia

in the small village of Salice Salentino

• The vineyard stretches more than 1,250 acres– Half of which are vineyards and the other half consists

of olive groves, wheat, and pasture.

• The vineyards are located throughout Lecce, Brindisi and Taranto provinces

History

• In 1665 Duke Oronzo, Earl of Lemos, founded the company.– He was so enchanted with the land that he

sold all his properties in Spain in order to draw the best from the Salentine rich terroir.

• It is one of the longest standing exporters in Southern Italy.

• Duke Oronzo planted not only in Salice but also in Guagnano, Veglie, Villa Baldassarri, Novoli, and San Pancrazio.

History

• From the beginning of the 19th century the winery used to export bulk wine to the United States, Germany, and France.

• It wasn’t until 1925 when Piero and Lisetta Leone de Castris began exporting bottled wine.

• Five Roses was created in 1943 – This rosé was the first ever bottled in Italy and sold

first of all in the USA.

• In the 1960s the direction of the company was handled by Cavaliere del Lavoro, Salvatore Leone de Castris

• It is now carried on by his son Piernicola Leone de Castris

• Leone de Castris’ wines are the product of culture, innovation, and a tradition of dedication and passion that has been observed for centuries. The family’s mission is to produce the highest quality products possible from the land to which they were born.

The Winery• The estate is comprised of 1,250 acres of olive groves, natural pastures and grape vines. • Ecologically sustainable, the winery uses natural fertilizers, and rigorous pruning techniques which

results in healthier vine growth and discourages pests. • The vineyards consist of a variety of grapes: Chardonnay, Pinot, Sauvignon, Cabernet, Merlot,

Montepulciano, Negroamaro, Malvasia nera, Verdeca, Bianco d’Alessano, Moscato, Aleatico, Primitivo.

Donna Lisa Malvasia Bianca Salento IGT

• 100% Malvasia Bianca• The name "Donna Lisa" refers to both Piernicola's

grandmother and Leone de Castris’ high-end hotel and restaurant, “Villa Donna Lisa.”

• Aromas of pineapple, banana, vanilla and citrus fruits. On the palate, toasted notes of hazelnut and creamy butter blend together beautifully; the crisp acidity leads into a refreshing finish.

• Pairs excellently with fish, risotto and poultry entrees.

Five Roses Rosato Salento IGT

• 90% Negroamaro and 10% Malvasia Nera • Created during the turmoil of World War II, it was the first rosato

bottled in Italy and exported to the USA. • Several generations of the family each had five children, so Five Roses

became the name of the vineyard of the Negroamaro grapes from which this wine is made.

• Aromas of ripe cherries, strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, and red currants. These notes continue on the palate, complimented by fresh, crisp acidity, good structure, and smooth texture.

• Enjoy this special wine as an aperitif or serve it with grilled vegetable dishes, risotto, poultry or flavorful seafood.

Villa Santera Primitivo di Manduria DOC

• 100% Primitivo • Villa Santera is named after a historic villa, which

belongs to the Leone de Castris family, located in the province of Taranto.

• Aromas of spiced cherries and black fruits complement undertones of tobacco and dried plums. It is a full-bodied wine, warm and soft on the palate with flavors that continue to evolve into the finish.

• Pair this wine with sweet Italian sausage, fresh berry coulis, jamón iberico, and barbecued ribs.

• 100% Negroamaro • This wine is dedicated to Piernicola and Alessandra's

sons. Piernicola's daughter used to call her brother by saying, "Elo, veni" meaning "Piero, come over here.”

• Aromas of dark cherries and red fruits complement undertones of vanilla and sweet spice. On the palate, it is full-bodied, yet smoothly-textured with a persistent finish.

Maiana Salice Salentino Rosso DOC

• 90% Negroamaro and 10% Malvasia Nera • Salice Salentino is one of the earliest established

appellations in Italy dating back to 1939. • Notes of ripe plum mingled with blackberry jam

and sweet spice. On the palate, Maiana is full-bodied and robust.

• A heavenly partner to roast game, beef or hearty casseroles.

• 90% Negroamaro and 10% Malvasia Nera • This wine commemorates the winery's 50th anniversary

vintage, or "vendemmia.”• Aromas of black cherries and baked red fruits complement

undertones of plums, spices, vanilla, and anise. • On the palate, velvety tannins and a full body frame the

long, delectable finish of stewed strawberries and vanilla beans.

• Pair this wine with well-aged steaks, demi-glaces, barbecue, and farsumagru.
