Learning Environment

Learning environments provide a way to partition the system into learning communities.

For example,

• Controls which parts of the catalog an administrator can view and update

• Also enable administrators to access the instructors and resources that are available for

assignment

• Each person (learner, instructor, manager, administrator) is associated with only one

learning environment.

• Each Learner Group is linked to one learning environment

• Objects (categories, catalog items, activities, programs, resources, etc) are associated with

one or more learning environments.

Learner GroupsLearner groups are defined groups of learners that share some of the same learner attributes,

such as the same department, region, or job code.

Each Learner Group is associated with a single learning environment.

• Types of Learner Groups:

Criteria-based learner groups are created by selecting the attributes that users must have to belong to the group

Query-based learner group are created by selecting a predefined SQL query, such as Job Code and State, and specify the values to use when the query is run. Query-based learner groups can be built using almost any combination of attributes in PeopleSoft ELM

Virtual Groups are created when assigning learner groups to categories, catalog items, and activities. They cannot be used for enrollment

System created are created automatically when a learning environment is created and cannot be deleted

• Use of Learner Groups:

Specify the categories, catalog items, activities, and programs a learner can access through the catalog.

 Perform group or mass enrollment.

Assign objectives to a group of learners.

Specify the types of supplemental learning a learner can report.

Tracking Learner Progress

• ELM uses scores, grades, attendance, passing status, and

completion status to track learners' progress through

learning components and activities.

• The system bases a learner's activity progress upon the

learner's performance in the activity's components.

• The measurements used to track learner progress are:

• Attendance

• Passing Status (optionally based on grades or scores entered through

an online roster)

• Completion Status

• Auto Mark Activity Completion
