DANGER: This machine was built to be operated according to the rules for safe operation in this manual. As withany type of power equipment, carelessness or error on the part of the operator can result in serious injury. Thismachine is capable of amputating hands and feet and throwing objects. Failure to observe the following safetyinstructions could result in serious injury or death.
Training1. Read, understand, and follow all instructions on the
machine and in the manual(s) before attempting toassemble and operate. Keep this manual in a safe placefor future and regular reference and for orderingreplacement parts.
2. Be familiar with all controls and their operation. Knowhow to stop the machine and disengage controls.
3. Never allow children under 14 years old to operate thismachine. Children 14 years old and over should read andunderstand the operation instructions and safety rules inthis manual and should be trained and supervised by aparent.
4. Never allow adults to operate this machine withoutproper instruction.
5. Thrown objects can cause serious personal injury. Planyour snow-throwing pattern to avoid discharge of materialtoward roads, bystanders and the like.
6. Keep bystanders, helpers, pets and children at least 75feet from the machine while it is in operation. Stopmachine if anyone enters the area.
7. Exercise caution to avoid slipping or falling, especiallywhen operating in reverse.
Preparation1. Thoroughly inspect the area where the equipment is to
be used. Remove all doormats, newspapers, sleds,boards, wires and other foreign objects, which could betripped over or thrown by the auger/impeller.
2. Always wear safety glasses or eye shields duringoperation and while performing an adjustment or repair toprotect your eyes. Thrown objects which ricochet cancause serious injury to the eyes.
3. Do not operate without wearing adequate winter outergarments. Do not wear jewelry, long scarves or otherloose clothing, which could become entangled in movingparts. Wear footwear which will improve footing onslippery surfaces.
4. Use a grounded three-wire extension cord andreceptacle for all units with electric start engines.
5. Adjust collector housing height to clear gravel or crushedrock surfaces.
6. Disengage all clutch levers before starting the engine.7. Never attempt to make any adjustments while engine is
running, except where specifically recommended in theoperator's manual.
8. Let engine and machine adjust to outdoor temperaturebefore starting to clear snow.
9. To avoid personal injury or property damage use extremecare in handling gasoline. Gasoline is extremelyflammable and the vapors are explosive. Seriouspersonal injury can occur when gasoline is spilled onyourself or your clothes, which can ignite. Wash your skinand change clothes immediately.
a. Use only an approved gasoline container.b. Extinguish all cigarettes, cigars, pipes and other
sources of ignition.c. Never fuel machine indoors.
d. Never remove gas cap or add fuel while theengine is hot or running.
e. Allow engine to cool at least two minutes beforerefueling.
f. Never over fill fuel tank. Fill tank to no more than
V2inch below bottom of filler neck to provide spacefor fuel expansion.
g. Replace gasoline cap and tighten securely.h. If gasoline is spilled, wipe it off the engine and
equipment. Move machine to another area. Wait 5minutes before starting the engine.
i. Never store the machine or fuel container inside
where there is an open flame, spark or pilot light(e.g. furnace, water heater, space heater, clothesdryer etc.).
j. Allow unit to cool for 5 minutes before storing.
Operation1. Do not put hands or feet near rotating parts, in the auger/
impeller housing or discharge chute. Contact withrotating parts can amputate hands and feet.
2. The auger/impeller clutch lever is a safety device. Neverbypass its operation. Doing so makes the machineunsafe and may cause personal injury.
3. The clutch levers must operate easily in both directionsand automatically return to the disengaged position whenreleased.
4. Never operate with a missing or damaged dischargechute. Keep all safety devices in place and working.
5. Never run an engine indoors or in a poorly ventilatedarea. Engine exhaust contains carbon monoxide, anodorless and deadly gas.
6. Do not operate machine while under the influence ofalcohol or drugs.
7. Mufflerandenginebecomehotandcancauseaburn.Donottouch.
8. Exerciseextremecautionwhenoperatingonorcrossinggravelsurfaces.Stayalertforhiddenhazardsortraffic.
9. Exercisecautionwhenchangingdirectionandwhileoperatingonslopes.
10.Planyoursnow-throwingpatterntoavoiddischargetowardswindows,walls,carsetc.Thus,avoidingpossiblepropertydamageorpersonalinjurycausedbyaricochet.
11.Neverdirectdischargeatchildren,bystandersandpetsorallowanyoneinfrontofthemachine.
12.Donotoverloadmachinecapacitybyattemptingtoclearsnowattoofastofarate.
13.Neveroperatethismachinewithoutgoodvisibilityorlight.Alwaysbesureofyourfootingandkeepafirmholdonthehandles.Walk,neverrun.
14.Disengagepowertotheauger/impellerwhentransportingornotinuse.
15.Neveroperatemachineathightransportspeedsonslipperysurfaces.Lookdownandbehindandusecarewheninreverse.
16.Ifthemachineshouldstarttovibrateabnormally,stoptheengine,disconnectthesparkplugwireandgrounditagainsttheengine.Inspectthoroughlyfordamage.Repairanydamagebeforestartingandoperating.
17.Disengageallclutchleversandstopenginebeforeyouleavetheoperatingposition(behindthehandles).Waituntiltheauger/impellercomestoacompletestopbeforeuncloggingthedischargechute,makinganyadjustments,orinspections.
18.Neverputyourhandinthedischargeorcollectoropenings.Alwaysusetheclean-outtoolprovidedtounclogthedischargeopening.Donotunclogdischargechutewhileengineisrunning.Beforeunclogging,shutoffengineandremainbehindhandlesuntilallmovingpartshavestoppedcompletely.
19.Useonlyattachmentsandaccessoriesapprovedbythemanufacturer(e.g.wheelweights,tirechains,cabsetc.).
20. Ifsituationsoccurwhicharenotcoveredinthismanual,usecareandgoodjudgment.ContactSearsservicecenterforassistance.
Maintenance & Storage1. Never tamper with safety devices. Check their proper
operation regularly. Refer to the maintenance andadjustment sections of this manual.
2. Before cleaning, repairing, or inspecting machinedisengage all clutch levers and stop engine. Wait until theauger/impeller come to a complete stop. Disconnect thespark plug wire and ground against the engine to preventunintended starting.
3. Check bolts and screws for proper tightness at frequentintervals to keep the machine in safe working condition.Also, visually inspect machine for any damage.
4. Do not change the engine governor setting or over-speedthe engine. The governor controls the maximum safeoperating speed of the engine.
5. Snow thrower shave plates and skid shoes are subject towear and damage. For your safety protection, frequentlycheck all components and replace with originalequipment manufacturer's (OEM) parts only. "Use ofparts which do not meet the original equipmentspecifications may lead to improper performance andcompromise safety!"
6. Check clutch controls periodically to verify they engageand disengage properly and adjust, if necessary. Refer tothe adjustment section in this operator's manual forinstructions.
7. Maintain/replace safety/instruction labels, as necessary.8. Observe proper disposal laws and regulations for gas,
oil, etc. to protect the environment.9. Prior to storing, run machine a few minutes to clear snow
from machine and prevent freeze up of auger/impeller.10. Never store the machine or fuel container inside where
there is an open flame, spark or pilot light such as a waterheater, furnace, clothes dryer etc.
11. Always refer to the operator's manual for properinstructions on off-season storage.
Your ResponsibilityRestrict the use of this power machine to persons who read,understand and follow the warnings and instructions in thismanual and on the machine.
Do not modify engineTo avoid serious injury or death, do not modify engine in anyway. Tampering with the governor setting can lead to arunaway engine and cause it to operate at unsafe speeds.Never tamper with factory setting of engine governor.
Notice regarding emissionsEngines which are certified to comply with California andfederal EPA emission regulations for SORE (Small Off RoadEquipment) are certified to operate on regular unleadedgasoline, and may include the following emission controlsystems: Engine Modification (EM) and Three Way Catalyst(TWC) if so equipped.
Engine Identification DecalThis decal indicates the engine's model number, specificationand the date of manufacture. Please look at the decal on the
engine of your equipment and record these information forfuture reference.
The engine identification decal also includes engine lifespecifications for the emissions-related useful life period ofthe engine. This period relates to the emission compliance lifeas certified by EPA and/or CARD. To find the life periodspecification of the engine, please read the engine decal andand locate the letter (enclosed by quotation marks) betweenthe words Moderate and Life Period. Match one of the
following letters with the letter printed on your decal. Forexample, HMSK 80 models are designated as:
"C" -- 250 hours
"B" -- 500 hours
"A" -- 1000 hours
IMPORTANT: This unit is shipped with the engine fullof oil. After assembly, see page 10 for fuel and oil fill-updetails.
Removing From Carton1. Cut the corners of the carton and lay the sides flat
on the ground. Remove all packing inserts.2. Move the snow thrower out of the carton.
3. Make certain the carton has been completelyemptied before discarding it.
Loose PartsYour snow thrower has been assembled at the factoryexcept the parts shipped loose in the carton.

Before AssemblyDisconnect spark plug wire and ground it against theengine to prevent unintended starting.
NOTE: All references in this manual to the left or rightside of the snow thrower is from the operating positiononly. Exceptions, if any, will be specified.
Setting up the Snow Thrower1. Raise the upper handle assembly in the direction
shown in Figure 1. Align the upper handle with thelower handles.

Tighten two handle knobs firmly to secure theupper handle to the lower handles. See Figure 1.
3. Slide the shift rod connector down over the end ofthe lower shift rod. Tap the connector until it locksover the lower shift rod. See Figure 2.

Apply an even coat of lithium grease on the lip ofthe chute base.
Make sure that the flange keepers are opened.Position the chute assembly (forward-facing) overthe chute base. See Figure 3

6. Close the flange keepers to secure the chuteassembly to the chute adapter. The keepers willclick into place when properly secure. See Figure 4.
NOTE: If the flange keepers do not easily click intoplace, use the palm of your hand to apply swift, firmpressure to the back of each.

IMPORTANT: Make certain that all three flangekeepers are securing the chute base lip to the chuteassembly. See Figure 5.

Pull the hairpin clip out of the clevis pin on the chutesupport tube. Save both pins.Place the 4-way chute control in a centeredposition. See Figure 6.

9. Insert the round end of the chute control box on theshort tube of the chute assembly as shown inFigure 7.
10. Insert other end of the chute control box into thechute support tube. See Figure 7.

11. Insert the clevis pin, earlier removed, through theholes on the chute control box and chute supporttube. Secure with the hairpin clip. See Figure 8.

13. The extension cord is fastened with a cable tie tothe rear of the auger housing for shippingpurposes. Cut the cable tie and remove it beforeoperating the snow thrower.
Final AdjustmentsAfter setting up your snow thrower, check theadjustments as instructed below and make any finaladjustments necessary before operating the unit.
CAUTION: Perform the following test before operatingthe snow thrower for the first time and at the start ofeach winter season. Failure to comply with theseadjustment instructions may cause damage to the unit.
Auger Control Test1. To check the adjustment of the auger control, push
forward the left hand control until the rubber
bumper is compressed. There should be slack inthe cable.
2. Release the control. The cable should be straight.Make certain you can depress the auger controlagainst the left handle completely.
,_ WARNING: Do not over-tighten the cable.Over-tightening may prevent the auger fromdisengaging and compromise the safety of thesnow th rower.
3. In a well-ventilated area, start the snow throwerengine as instructed earlier in this section under theheading StartingEngine.Make sure the throttle is setin the FAST position.
4. While standing in the operator's position (behindthe snow thrower) engage the auger.
5. Allow the auger to remain engaged forapproximately ten (10) seconds before releasingthe auger control. Repeat this several times.
6. With the engine running in the FAST position andthe auger control in the disengaged "up" position,walk to the front of the machine.
7. Confirm that the auger has completely stoppedrotating and shows NO signs of motion.
IMPORTANT: If the auger shows ANY signs of rotating,immediately return to the operator's position and shutoff the engine. Wait for all moving parts to stop beforereadjusting the auger control cable.
8. If adjustment is necessary, loosen the jam nut andthread the cable in (for less slack) or out (for moreslack). See Figure 10.
9. Recheck the adjustment. Tighten jam nut againstthe cable when correct adjustment is reached.

Drive Control & Shift Lever1. Tip the snow thrower forward so that it rests on the
auger housing.2. Move the shift lever all the way forward to the sixth
(6) position.3. With the drive control released, spin the snow
thrower wheels by hand. The wheels should turn;however, you may feel some resistance.
4. Engage the drive control. The wheels should nolonger turn.
5. Now release the drive control and spin the wheelsagain.
6. Move the shift lever back to the fast reverseposition and then all the way forward again. Thereshould be no resistance in the shift lever and thewheels should turn.
7. If you face resistance when moving the shift leveror the wheels stop when they should not, loosenthe jam nut on the drive cable and unthread thecable one turn.
8. If the wheels can still be turned when you engagethe drive control, loosen the jam nut on the drivecable and thread the cable in one turn. Recheck theadjustment and repeat if needed.
9. Tighten the jam nut to secure the cable whencorrect adjustment is reached.
NOTE:For further details, refer to the Adjustmentsection on page 20.
Shear Pin StorageHoles are located in the plastic dash panel forconvenient shear pin storage. See Figure 11.

Skid ShoeLocate the shave plate and the skid shoes in Figure 13on page 9. The space between this shave plate andthe ground can be adjusted. For close snow removal,place skid shoes in the low position. Use middle orhigh position when area to be cleared is uneven.
IMPORTANT: It is not recommended that you operatethis snow thrower on gravel as loose gravel can beeasily picked up and thrown by the auger causingpersonal injury or damage to the snow thrower.
If for some reason, you have to operate the snowthrower on gravel, keep the skid shoe in the highestposition for maximum clearance between the groundand the shave plate.
1. Adjust skid shoes by loosening the four lock nutsand carriage bolts and moving skid shoes todesired position. See Figure 12.
2. Make certain the entire bottom surface of skid
shoes are against the ground to avoid uneven wearon the skid shoes.
3. Tighten nuts and bolts securely.

Tire Pressure (Pneumatic Tires)The tires are over-inflated for shipping purposes.Check the tire pressure before operating the snowthrower. Refer to the tire side wall for tiremanufacturer's recommended psi and deflate (orinflate) the tires as necessary.
NOTE: If the tire pressure is not equal in both tires, theunit may pull to one side or the other and the shaveplate will not sit level on the ground.
IMPORTANT: Under any circumstance do notexceed manufacturer's recommended psi.Equal tire pressure should be maintained at alltimes. Excessive pressure when seatingbeads may cause tire/rim assembly to burstwith force sufficient to cause serious injury.Refer to sidewall of tire for recommended
pressure.
Four-Way Chute ControF MThe chute control lever may need to be lubricated toreduce its break-in period. Vegetable oil, petroleum jellyor motor oil can be used as lubricant.
IMPORTANT: This unit is shipped with engine oil in theengine, but without gasoline. After assembly, seeOPERATION section of this manual for fuel selectionand fill-up.

Drive / Auger Control LockThe drive control is located on the right handle.Squeeze down the drive control to engage the wheeldrive. Release to stop.
The drive control also locks the auger control so youcan operate the chute directional control withoutinterrupting the snow throwing process. If the augercontrol is engaged simultaneously with the drivecontrol, the operator can release the auger control (onthe left handle) and the augers will remain engaged.Release both controls to stop the augers and wheeldrive.
IMPORTANT: Always release the drive control beforechanging speeds.
Auger ControlThe auger control is located on the lefthandle. Squeeze the auger control toengage the augers. Release to stop thesnow throwing action. The drive controlmust also be released in order to stopthe auger.
IMPORTANT: Refer to AugerControlTeston page 7 priorto operating your snow thrower. Read and follow allinstructions carefully and perform all adjustments toverify your snow thrower is operating safely andproperly.
Ignition KeyThe ignition key must be inserted and snapped in placein order for the engine to start. Remove the ignition keyto prevent unauthorized use of equipment. Do NOTattempt to turn the key.
Four-Way Chute Control TM
This four-way control lever is meant to control thedirection and distance of snow discharge from thechute. Press the button on the knob and turn it left or
right to rotate the chute to the direction that snow will bethrown. Tilt the lever forward to decrease the distancesnow will be thrown, and backwards to increasedistance.
Shift LeverThe shift lever is located in the center ' 6
of the handle panel and is used to _determine ground speed and direction 4of travel. It can be moved into any of 3eight positions. 2
IMPORTANT: Always release drive _ r_
control before changing speeds.
Forward: Your snow thrower has six IR_.-forward (F) speeds, with positionnumber one (1) being the slowest fR2.-speed.Reverse: Your snow thrower has two
reverse (R) speeds, with positionnumber one (1) being the slower speed.
HeadlightThe headlight is on whenever the engine is running.
Clean-Out Tool
The clean-out tool is designed to clear a clogged chute.Refer to page 13 for instructions on how to properly useit.
_ ARNING: Never use your hand to clear aclogged chute. Shut off engine and remainbehind handles until all moving parts havestopped before unclogging. Use the clean-outtool or a stick to unclog.
Wheel Steering ControlsThe left and right wheel steeringcontrols are located on the underside
of the handles. Squeeze the rightcontrol to turn right; squeeze the left control to turn left.
NOTE: Operate the snow thrower in open areas untilyou are familiar with these controls.
Skid ShoeThe skid shoe position is determined by the condition ofthe ground from where snow has to be removed. Higherthe snow level, lower will be the skid shoe level. Adjustit accordingly. Refer to Skid ShoeAdjustmenton page 8.
Before Starting Engine
OilThe engine was shipped with oil in the engine. Checkoil level before each operation to ensure adequate oil inthe engine. For further instructions, refer to the steps onpage 15.
1. Remove the dipstick from the oil fill.2. Check and make sure that the level of oil is up to
the FULL mark on the dipstick.3. If the oil level is not up to FULL, pour fresh oil slowly
through the plug. Replace oil fill dipstick and checkoil level again.
Gas
WARNING: Gasoline is flammable; use
caution when handling or storing it.
WARNING: Do not fill fuel tank while the
snow thrower is running, when it is hot or whenit is in an enclosed area.
WARNING: Keep your snow thrower awayfrom any open flame or an electrical spark anddo not smoke while filling the fuel tank.
1. Store gasoline in a clean, approved container andkeep the cap in place on the container.
2. Make sure that the container from which you pourthe gasoline is clean and free from rust or otherforeign particles.
3. A plastic cap is provided inside the fuel fill openingto protect the tank during manufacturing. Removeand discard. Use the threaded fuel tank cap toclose after fill-up.
4. Always fill the fuel tank outdoors and use a funnelor spout to prevent spilling
5. Fill fuel tank with clean, fresh, unleaded gradeautomotive gasoline.
6. Never fill the fuel tank completely. Fill the tank towithin 1/2" from the top to provide space forexpansion of fuel.
7. Make sure to wipe off any spilled fuel beforestarting the engine.
8. Atthe end of the job, emptythe fuel tank ifthe snowthrower is not going to be used for30 days orlonger. See oft-season storage instructions onpage 22.
To Start Engine
_ ARNING: Be sure no one other than theoperator is standing near the snow throwerwhile starting or operating. Do not operate thissnow thrower unless the chute assembly hasbeen properly installed and is secured.

Electric Starter
For location of all the engine controls referred to in thissection, see Figure 13 inset.
Before starting, make sure that the engine has suffi-cient oil. The snow thrower engine is equipped with a120 volt A.C. electric starter and recoil starter. The
electric starter is equipped with a three-wire powercord and plug and is designed to operate on 120 voltAC household current. Followall instructions carefully.
Cold Start
NOTE: If the unit shows any sign of motion (drive oraugers) with the clutch grips disengaged, shut theengine off immediately. Readjust as instructed in the"Final Adjustments" section of the AssemblyInstructions.
WARNING: The electric starter must beproperly grounded at all times to avoid thepossibility of electric shock which may beinjurious to the operator.
1. Determine whether your house wiring is a three-wire grounded system. Ask a licensed electrician ifyou are not certain.
_ ARNING: If your house wiring system is nota three-wire grounded system, do not use thiselectric starter under any conditions.
• If your house wiring system is grounded and athree-hole receptacle is not available at the pointthe snow thrower starter will normally be used, oneshould be installed by a licensed electrician.
• When connecting the power cord, always connectcord to starter on engine first, then plug the otherend into a three-hole grounded receptacle.
• When disconnecting the power cord, always unplugthe end from the three-hole, grounded receptaclefirst.
2. Attach spark plug wire to spark plug.3. Turn fuel valve on, if so equipped.4. Make sure that the auger and drive controls are in
the disengaged (up) position.5. Move throttle control lever to FAST position.6. Push key into the ignition slot and snap in place. Do
not turn key.7. Connect power cord to switch box on the engine.8. Plug the other end of the power cord into a three-
hole, grounded 120 volt A.C. receptacle.9. Rotate choke knob to FULL choke position (cold
engine start). If engine is warm, place choke in OFFposition instead of FULL.
10. Push the primer three times.
11. Push down on the starter button until the enginestarts. Do not crank for more than 10 seconds at a
time. This electric starter is thermally protected. Ifoverheated, it will stop automatically and can berestarted only when it has cooled to a safetemperature (a wait of 5 -10 minutes is required).
12. When the engine starts, release the starter buttonand slowly rotate the choke to OFF position. If theengine falters, rotate the choke to FULL and thengradually to OFF.
13. Disconnect the power cord from the receptacle firstand then from the switch box on the engine.
14. Allow the engine to warm up for a few minutesbecause the engine will not develop full power untilit reaches operating temperature. Operate theengine at full throttle (FAST) when throwing snow.
Recoil Starter
Make sure that the engine has sufficient oil and theauger drive and the drive control levers are released.
Cold Start1. Move throttle control to FAST position.2. Turn fuel valve on, if so equipped.3. Push key into the ignition slot and snap in place. Do
not turn key.4. Rotate choke control to FULL choke position.5. Push the primer button while covering the vent hole.
Remove your finger from the primer between primes.
Do not prime if temperature is above 500 F; primetwo times between 50° F and 150 F; and prime fourtimes below 150 F.
6. Pull the starter handle rapidly. Do not allow thehandle to snap back, but allow it to rewind slowlywhile keeping a firm hold on the starter handle.
7. As the engine warms up, rotate the choke knobslowly to OFF position. If the engine falters, returnto FULL choke, then slowly move to OFF chokeposition.
8. Allow the engine to warm up for a few minutesbecause the engine will not develop full power untilit reaches operating temperature.
9. Operate the engine at full throttle (FAST) whenthrowing snow.
Warm Start1. If restarting a warm engine after a temporary shut
down, rotate choke to OFF instead of FULL and donot prime. Pull starter handle as instructed earlier.
Frozen Recoil StarterIf the starter is froFen and will not turn the engine,proceed as follows:
1. Pull as much rope out of the starter as possible.2. Release the starter handle and let it snap back
against the starter.

3. If the engine still fails to start, repeat the first twosteps. If continued attempts do not free starter,follow the electric starter procedures to start.
4. Avoid freezing of the recoil starter by referring toinstructions below.
Before Stopping1. Run engine for a few minutes to help dry off any
moisture on engine.2. Avoid freezing of the starter by following these
steps before stopping the snow thrower:
Recoil Starter
a. With the engine running, pull the starter ropewith a rapid, continuous full arm stroke threeor four times.
Electric Starter
a. Connect powercord to switch box, then to120 Volt AC receptacle.
b. While the engine is running, push the starterbutton and spin the starter for severalseconds.
c. Disconnect power cord from the receptaclefirst, then from the snow thrower.
NOTE: The unusual sound from pulling the starter ropein case of the recoil starter, or from spinning the starterin case of the electric starter, will not harm the engine.
To Stop The Snow Thrower1. To stop the wheels, release the drive control on the
snow th rowe r.
2. To stop throwing snow, release auger control.3. To stop engine, push throttle control lever to "stop"
or "off" and remove ignition key (Do not turn key)to prevent unauthorized use of equipment.
To Engage Drive1. With the engine running near top speed, move shift
lever to one of six FORWARD positions or twoREVERSE positions. Select a speed appropriatefor the snow conditions that exist. Use slowerspeeds until you are familiar with the process.
2. Squeeze drive control against the right handle andthe snow thrower will move. Release it and thedrive motion will stop.
To Engage Augers1. To engage augers and start snow throwing,
squeeze the left hand auger control against the lefthandle. Release to stop augers.
2. While the auger control is engaged, squeeze thedrive control to move, release to stop. Do not shiftspeeds while the drive is engaged.
NOTE: This same lever also locks auger control so youcan turn the chute directional control without
interrupting the snow throwing process.
3. Release the auger control; the interlock mechanismshould keep the auger control engaged until thedrive control is released.
4. Release the drive control to stop both the augersand the wheel drive. To stop the auger, both leversmust be released.
To Throw Snow
CAUTION: Check the area to be cleared for foreignobjects. Remove, if any.
1. Start the engine following starting instructions.2. Rotate the discharge chute to the desired position,
(away from bystanders and/or buildings) by movingthe chute control.
3. Select the speed according to snow condition.
CAUTION: Never move the shift lever without first
releasing the drive control.
4. Engage the auger and drive controls followinginstructions above.
5. The interlock feature will allow you to remove yourleft hand from the auger control.
6. When clearing the first pass through the snow,control speed of snow thrower according to thedepth and condition of snow.
7. To turn the unit left or right, squeeze the respectivewheel steering control. See Figure 13.
8. On each succeeding pass, readjust the chute to thedesired position and slightly overlap previous path.
9. After the area is cleared, stop the snow throwerfollowing instructions given below.
Operating Tips
NOTE: Allow the engine to warm up for a few minutesas the engine will not develop full power until it reachesoperating temperature.
_ ARNING: The temperature of muffler andsurrounding areas may exceed 150 ° F. Avoidthese areas.
• For most efficient snow removal, remove snowimmediately after it falls.
• Discharge snow downwind whenever possible.Slightly overlap each previous swath.
• Set the skid shoes 1/4" below the scraper bar fornormal usage. The skid shoes may be adjustedupward for hard-packed snow.

NOTE: It is not recommended that you operate thissnow thrower on gravel as loose gravel can be easilypicked up and thrown by the auger causing an injury ordamage to the snow thrower.
• If for some reason, you have to operate the snowthrower on gravel, keep the skid shoe in the highestposition for maximum clearance between groundand shave plate.
• Clean the snow thrower thoroughly after each use.
Clean-Out ToolThe clean-out tool is conveniently fastened to the rearof the auger housing with a mounting clip. Never useyour hand to clean a clogged chute.
1. Release both the auger control and the drive/augercontrol lock.
2. Stop the engine by moving the throttle to the stopposition.
3. Remove the clean-out tool from the mounting clip.See Figure 14.
4. Use the shovel-shaped end of the clean-out tool toremove any snow and ice in the chute assembly.

Checking Oil LevelBefore operating snow thrower, check the oil level byfollowing steps below.
NOTE: Although multi-viscosity oils (5W30, 10W30etc.) improve starting in cold weather, these multi-viscosity oils also result in higher oil consumption when
used above 32°F. Check your snow thrower's engine oillevel more frequently to avoid possible engine damagefrom running low on oil.
1. With engine on level ground, oil must be to FULLmark on dipstick. See Figure 16.
2. Stop engine and wait several minutes beforechecking oil level. Remove oil fill cap and dipstick.
3. Wipe dipstick clean, insert it into oil fill hole andtighten securely.
4. Remove dipstick and check. If oil is not up to theFULL mark on dipstick, add oil.

In order to change oil, you will have to first drain theused engine oil from the engine and then refill with freshoil.
1. Drain oil while engine is warm. Remove oil drainplug located at the bottom of the recoil starter of theengine. Catch oil in a suitable container.
2. When engine is drained of all oil, replace drain plugsecurely.
3. Remove the dipstick from the oil fill. For location ofthe oil fill, see Figure 13. Pour fresh oil slowlythrough the plug. Replace dipstick.
Check and make sure that the level of oil is up to theFULL mark on the dipstick.

Check Chute CablesOnce a season or every 25 hours of operation,whichever is earlier, check whether the chute cableshave slackened. Adjust if necessary, followinginstructions on page 20.
Check Spark PlugClean spark plug and reset the electrode gap to 0.030"at least once a season or every 100 hours of operation;replace every 200 hours of operation.

Servicing AugersThe augers are secured to the spiral shaft with twoshear pins and cotter pins. See Figure 18. If you hit aforeign object or ice jam, the snow thrower is designedso that the pins will shear.
1. If the augers do not turn, check to see if the pinshave sheared.
2. Replace the pins if needed. Two replacement shearpins and cotter pins have been provided with thesnow thrower. Spray an oil lubricant into shaftbefore inserting new pins and securing with newcotter pins. See Figure 18.

Shave Plate and Skid ShoesThe shave plate and skid shoes on the bottom of thesnow thrower are subject to wear. Check theseperiodically and replace as necessary.

Adjustments

See Figure 29C.4. Rotate the ferrule u ) or down the shift rod as
necessary until the ferrule lines up with the upperhole in the shift lever. See Figure 29B.
5. Insert ferrule from right side of the snow throwerinto the upper hole in shift lever. See Figure 29B.

Chute ControlOnce a season or every 25 hours of operation,whichever is earlier, check whether the four-way chutecontrol TM cables have slackened. If the chute does notrotate fully or its pitch cannot be moved up or down, thechute control cables will have to be adjusted.
To adjust these cables, proceed as follows:
1. To tighten cable, loosen the top nut and tighten thebottom nut on the cable.

2. Adjust equally on both sides by working on bothcables. See Figure 30.

Drive Control
Refer to the Final Adjustment section of the Assemblyinstructions to adjust the drive control. To check theadjustment, proceed as follows:1. With the snow thrower tipped forward (be certain to
drain gasoline or place plastic film under the gascap if the snow thrower has already beenoperated), remove the frame cover underneath thesnow thrower by removing the self-tapping screws.
2. With the drive control released, there must be 1/8"clearance between the friction wheel and the drive
plate in all positions of the shift lever.3. With the drive control engaged, the friction wheel
must contact the drive plate.4. If adjustment is necessary, loosen the jam nut on
the drive cable and thread the cable in or out as
necessary. Tighten the jam nut to secure the cablewhen correct adjustment is reached.
5. Reassemble the frame cover and turn the unit back
to its operating position.
NOTE: If you placed plastic under the gas cap, becertain to remove it now.

If the snow thrower will not be used for 30 days orlonger, or if it is the end of the snow season when thelast possibility of snow is gone, the equipment needs tobe stored properly. Follow storage instructions belowtoensure top performance from the snow thrower formany more years.
Preparing Engine
_ ARNING: Never store snow thrower withfuel in tank indoors or in poorly ventilatedareas, where fuel fumes may reach an openflame, spark or pilot light as on a furnace, waterheater, clothes dryer or gas appliance.
NOTE: It is important to prevent gum deposits fromforming in essential fuel system parts of the enginesuch as the carburetor, fuel filter, fuel hose or tankduring storage.
CAUTION: Alcohol blended fuels (called gasohol orusing ethanol or methanol) can attract moisture whichleads to separation and formation of acids duringstorage. Acidic gas can damage the fuel system of anengine while in storage.
To avoid engine problems, the fuel system shouldbeemptiedbefore storage for 30 days or longer. Followthese instructions to prepare your snow thrower forstorage:
_ WARNING: Drain fuel into an approvedcontainer outdoors, away from any open flame.Be certain engine is cool. Do not smoke. Fuelleft in engine during warm weather deterioratesand will cause serious starting problems.
1. Remove all gasoline from the carburetor and thefuel tank to prevent gum deposits from forming onthese parts and harming the engine.
2. Run the engine until the fuel tank is empty and itstops due to lack of fuel.
3. Drain carburetor by pressing upward on bowl drain,located below the carburetor cover. See Figure 31.
_ ARNING: Do not drain carburetor if usingfuel stabilizer. Never use engine or carburetorcleaning products in the fuel tank or permanentdamage may occur.

NOTE: Fuel stabilizer (such as STA-BIL) is anacceptable alternative in minimizing the formation offuel gum deposits during storage. Add stabilizer togasoline in fuel tank or storage container. Always followmix ratio found on stabilizer container. Run engine atleast 10 minutes after adding stabilizer to allow it toreach the carburetor. Do not drain carburetor if usingfuel stabilizer.
4. Remove the spark plug and pour one (1) ounce ofengine oil through the spark plug hole into thecylinder. Cover spark plug hole with a rag andcrank the engine several times to distribute the oil.Replace spark plug.
Preparing Snow Thrower1. When storing the snow thrower in an unventilated

Preparativos1. Revise minuciosamente la zona donde se utilizara el equipo.
Saque todos los felpudos, peri6dicos, trineos, tablas, cables y otrosobjetos extrafios con los que podria tropezar o que podfian serarrojados per la barrena / motor.
2. Para protegerse los ojos utilice siempre anteojos o antiparras deseguridad mientras opera la m_.quina o mientras la ajusta o repara.Los objetes arrojados que rebetan pueden lesionar gravemente lavista.
3. No opere la m_.quina sin la vestimenta adecuada para estar al airelibre en invierno. No utilice alhajas, bufandas largas u otrasprendas sueltas que podfian enredarse en las partes m6viles.Utilice un calzado especial para superficies resbaladizas.
4. Use un cord6n prolongador y un tomacorriente de tres cables conconexi6n a tierra para todas las unidades con motores conencendido electrico.

9. Sea sumamente cuidadoso al manipular la gasolina para evitarlesiones o dafios. La gasolina es altamente inflamable y losvapores son explosives. Se puede lesionar gravemente si derramagasolina sobre usted o sobre la ropa ya que se puede prenderfuego. L_.vese la piel y cambiese de ropa de inmediato.
a. Utilice s61orecipientes para gasolina aprobados.b. Apague todos los cigarrillos, cigarros, pipas y otras fuentes
de combusti6n.
c. Nunca cargue combustible en la m_.quina en un espaciocerrado.

f. Nunca recargue el tanque de combustible. Llene el tanqueno mas de 1/2 pulgada per debajo de la base del cuello del
filtro para dejar espacio para la dilataci6n del combustible.g. Vuelva a colocar la tapa de la gasolina y ajt_stela bien.
h. Limpie la gasolina que se derrame sobre el motor y elequipo. Traslade la maquina a otra zona. Espere 5 minutesantes de encender el motor.
i. Nunca almacene la maquina o el recipiente de combustible
en un espacio cerrado donde haya fuego, chispas o luzpiloto (per ejemplo, hornos, calentadores de agua,
calefactores, secadores de ropa, etc.).j. Deje que la m_.quina se enfrie durante 5 minutes antes de
almacenarla.
Funcionamiento1. No ponga las manes o los pies cerca de las piezas rotatorias, en la
caja de la barrena / motor o en el canal de descarga. El contactocon piezas rotatorias puede amputar manes y pies.
2. La palanca del embrague de la barrena / motor es un dispositivo deseguridad. Nunca pase per alto su funcionamiento. De hacerlo laoperaci6n de la m_.quina es riesgosa y puede ocasionar lesiones.
3. Las palancas del embrague deben funcionar bien en ambasdirecciones y regresar autom_.ticamente a la posici6n dedesengrane cuando se las suelta.
4. Nunca opere la ma.quina si falta un canal de descarga o el mismoesta dafiado. Mantenga tedos los dispositivos de seguridad en sulugar yen funcionamiento.
5. Nunca encienda el motor en espacios cerrados o en una zona pocoventilada. El escape del motor contiene mon6xido de carbono, ungas inodoro y letal.
6. No opere la ma.quina estando bajo los efectos del alcohol o dedrogas.
7. El silenciador y el motor se calientan y pueden producirquemaduras. No los toque.
8. Sea sumamente precavido cuando opere la m_.quina sobre unasuperficie con grava e cuando la cruce. Mantengase alerta per si sepresentan peligros ocultos o transito.
9. Tenga cuidado cuando cambie de direcci6n o cuando opere lamaquina en pendientes.
10. Planifique el patr6n en el que va air arrojando nieve para evitar quela descarga de material se produzca hacia las ventanas, lasparedes, los autom6viles, etc. para evitar posibles dafiosmateriales o lesiones producidas per los rebotes.
11. Nunca dirija la descarga hacia los nifios, los observadores y lasmascotas ni deje que nadie se pare delante de la ma.quina.

12. No sobrecargue la capacidad de la m_.quina tratando de sacar lanieve muy ra.pidamente.
13. Nunca opere esta maquina si no tiene buena visibilidad oiluminaci6n. Siempre debe estar seguro de que esta bien afirmadoy sostenga bien las manijas. Camine, nunca corra.
14. Corte la corriente a la barrena / motor cuando transporte lamaquina o cuando la misma no est,. en uso.
15. Nunca opere la maquina a alta velocidad de desplazamiento sobresuperficies resbaladizas. Mire hacia abajo y hacia atr_.sy tengacuidado cuando la use en reversa.
16. Si la maquina comenzara a vibrar de manera anormal, detenga elmotor, desconecte el cable de la bujfa y p6ngala de manera quehaga masa contra el motor. Inspeccione la m_.quinaminuciosamente para ver siesta, dafiada. Repare todos los da_osantes de encender y operar la maquina.
17. Desengrane todas las palancas de embrague y detenga el motorantes de dejar la posici6n de operaci6n (detr_.s de las manijas).Espere a que la barrena / motor se detenga por completo antes dedestapar el canal de descarga, de realizar ajustes o inspecciones.
18. Nunca ponga las manos en las aberturas de descarga o derecolecci6n. Utilice siempre la herramienta de limpieza que seadjunta para destapar la abertura de descarga. No destape el canalde descarga mientras el motor est,. en marcha. Antes dedestaparlo, apague el motor y permanezca detr_.s de las manijashasta que todas las partes m6viles se hayan detenidocompletamente.
19. Use s61ouniones y accesorios aprobados por el fabricante (porejemplo, pesas para las ruedas, cadenas para los neumaticos,cabinas, etc.).
20. Si se presentan situaciones que no estan previstas en este manualsea cuidadoso y use el sentido comt]n. Contacte al centro deservicio Sears para obtener asistencia.
Mantenimiento & Almacenamiento1. Nunca manipule los dispositivos de seguridad de manera
imprudente. Controle peri6dicamente que funcionen de formaadecuada. Remftase alas secciones de mantenimiento y ajuste deeste manual.
2. Antes de realizar la limpieza, de reparar o de revisar la maquina,desengrane todas las palancas de embrague y detenga el motor.Espere a que la barrena / motor se detenga por completo.Desconecte el cable de la bujfa y p6ngalo de manera que hagamasa contra el motor para evitar que se encienda de maneraaccidental.
3. Verifique frecuentemente que los pemos ytornillos esten ajustadoscorrectamente para asegurarse de que la maquina est_ trabajandode manera segura. Ademas realice una inspecci6n visual de lamaquina para controlar si la misma esta dafiada.
4. No cambie la configuraci6n del regulador del motor ni aceleredemasiado el mismo. El regulador controla la velocidad maximasegura de operaci6n del motor.
5. Las placas de raspado y las zapatas antideslizantes que se usancon la m_.quina quitanieve se desgastan y se dahan. Para protegersu seguridad, verifique frecuentemente todos los componentes yreemplacelos s61ocon partes de los fabricantes de equiposoriginales (OEM). "La utilizaci6n de partes que no cumplan con lasespecificaciones de equipos originales podria tener comoresultado un rendimiento incorrecto y adem_.s la seguridad podrfaestar comprometida"
6. Revise los controles del embrague peri6dicamente para verificarque engranen y desengranen adecuadamente y ajQstelos si esnecesario. Consulte la secci6n de ajustes en este manual deloperador para obtener instrucciones.
7. Mantenga/reemplace las etiquetas/instrucciones de seguridad
segt]n sea necesario.8. Respete las leyes y reglamentaciones referentes a la disposici6n
correcta de combustible, aceite, etc. para proteger el medioambiente.
9. Antes de almacenar la m_.quina enci@dala unos minutos parasacar la nieve que haya quedado en la misma y para evitar asi quese congele la barrena / motor.
10. Nunca almacene la m_.quina o el recipiente de combustible en unespacio cerrado donde haya fuego, chispas o luz piloto como porejemplo, calentadores de agua, hornos, secadores de ropa, etc.
11. Siempre consulte el manual del operador para obtenerinstrucciones correctas acerca del almacenamiento fuera detemporada.

Desempaque1. Retire los tornillos de los lades y extremes superiores de la caja de
embalaje. Retire los paneles de la caja para evitar que se pinchenlas Ilantas o que se produzcan lesiones personales.
2. Retire y descarte la bolsa de plastico que cubre la unidad.3. Quite cualquier parte suelta que se incluya con su unidad (por
ejemplo, el manual del operador, etc.). Deslice la unidad hastasacarla de la caja.
Partes sueltasSu m_quina quitanieve ha sido montada en la f_.brica excepto las
partes que se envfan sueltas en el cart6n. Se enumeran acontinuaci6n.
a. Cord6n de arranque electricob. Pasadores de cuchilla y pasadores de chaveta
Antes del montajeDesconecte el cable de la bujia y p6ngalo de manera que haga masa
contra el motor para evitar que se encienda de manera accidental.
NOTA: Las referencias que contiene este manualsobre los lados derecho o lzquierdo de la maquinaquitanieve se hacen observando la misma desde laposicion de operacidn. Si existiera alguna excepcionserf especiflcado.
Configuraci6ndelamaquinaquitanieve1. Eleve el montaje de la manija superior en la direcci6n que se indica
en la Figura 1. Alinee la manija superior con las manijas inferiores.

Ajuste las dos perillas manuales firmemente para asegurar lamanija superior alas manijas inferiores. Vea la Figura 1.Deslice el conector de la varilla de cambio hacia abajo hasta elextremo inferior de la varilla de cambio. Golpee suavemente elconector hasta que se trabe sobre la varilla de cambio inferior. Veala Figura 2.
NOTA: Si el conector no esta montado correctamente,la varilla de cambio girara y no podra cambiarvelocidades ni la direccion del movimiento de lamaquina quitanieve.

4. Ubique el montaje del canal sobre el borde del adaptador del canal.Vea la Figura 3A.
5. Un extremo de cada abrazadera del canal ya esta. unido a la bridadel canal. Gire el extremo libre de la abrazadera del canal paraalinearlo con la brida del canal, y emp_Jjelohasta que se engancheen su posici6n. Vea la Figura 3B. Repita con el resto deabrazaderas del canal.
6. Tire del broche de horquilla para sacarlo de la chaveta de horquillaen la varilla de sosten del canal. Guarde las piezas meta.licas.

7. Inserte el extremo redondeado de la caja de control del canal en eltubo corto del montaje del canal, tal y como se muestra en la Figura3C.
8. Inserte el otro extreme de la caja de control del canal en el tube desoporte del canal, tal ycomo se muestra en la Figura 3C.
9. Inserte la chaveta de horquilla que quit6 antes a traves de los orificiosde lacaja de control del canal y la varilla de soporte del canal. Asegurecon el broche de horquilla. Vea la Figura 3D.
10. Deslice los cables que van desde el panel de la manija al canal,dentro de la guia del cable ubicada en la parte superior del motor.Vea la Figura 4.
11. Deslice los cables que van desde el panel de la manija a la caja decontrol del canal, dentro de la guia del cable tambien. Vea la Figura4.

La herramienta de limpieza del canal se ajusta con una uni6n decable a la parte posterior de la caja de la barrena para el embarque.Corte la uni6n del cable y retire el cord6n prolongador antes deoperar la maquina quitanieve.
Ajustes finalesDespues de configurar su ma.quina quitanieve, controle los ajustes tal
como se indica debajo y realice los ajustes finales necesarios antes deoperar la unidad.
PRECAUClON: Si no respeta estas instrucciones de ajuste puede daflarla unidad.
Control de la barrena1. Para controlar el ajuste del control de la barrena, empuje hacia
adelante la empufiadura del embrague del lado izquierdo hastaque se comprima el parachoques de goma. El cable del embraguedeberia estar flojo.
2. Suelte la empufiadura del embrague. El cable deberia estar recto.Asegt]rese de que puede presionar completamente la empufiadurade control de la barrena contra la manija izquierda.
3. Si es necesario realizar ajustes, afloje la contratuerca hexagonal yenrosque el cable (para que no este tan tirante) o desenr6squelo(para que este mas flojo). Vea la Figura 5.
4. Vuelva a controlar el ajuste. Ajuste la contratuerca contra el cablecuando alcance el ajuste correcto.

Embrague de la transmisibn &Palanca de cambios1. Incline la m_.quina quitanieve hacia adelante de manera que quede
apoyada sobre la caja de la barrena.2. Mueva la palanca de cambios hacia adelante a la posici6n seis (6).3. Cuando suelte la palanca de control de la transmisi6n, gire a mano
las ruedas de la maquina quitanieve. Si bien las ruedas girard.n, esposible que note cierta resistencia.
4. Engrane la empufladura del embrague de transmisi6n. Las ruedasdeberian dejar de girar.
5. Ahora suelte la empufladura del embrague de transmisi6n y hagagirar las ruedas de nuevo.
6. Mueva la palanca de cambios hacia atras en posici6n retrocesor_.pido y luego mu_vala totalmente hacia adelante. No deberiahaber resistencia en la palanca de cambios y las ruedas deberfangirar.
7. Si encuentra alguna resistencia cuando mueva la palanca decambios o si las ruedas se detienen cuando no deberian, afloje latuerca de seguridad en el cable de transmisi6n y desenrosque unavuelta de cable.
8. Si at_npuede mover las ruedas cuando engrane la empufiadura delembrague de la transmisi6n, afloje la tuerca de seguridad en elcable de transmisi6n y enrosque una vuelta de cable. Vuelva acontrolar el ajuste y repita el procedimiento si es necesario.
9. Ajuste la contratuerca para asegurar el cable una vez alcanzado elajuste correcto.

Zapata antideslizanteUbique la placa de raspado y las zapatas antideslizantes enFigura 7 la p&gina 43. Es posible ajustar el espacio existente
entre esta placa de raspado y el suelo. Si desea quitar nieve alras del suelo, coloque las zapatas antideslizantes en la posici6n
baja. Use las posiciones media o alta cuando la superficie que
desea limpiar sea despareja.
PRECAUCION: No se recomienda que opere estamaquina quitanieve sobre gravas, ya que es posibleque la maquina quitanieve tome las gravas sueltas y labarrena las expulse, Io cual podrfa causar lesionespersonales o daSar la maquina quitanieve.
Si per algOn motivo tiene que usar la m_.quina quitanieve sobre grava,mantenga la zapata antideslizante en la posici6n ma.selevada para
Iograr una separaci6n maxima entre el suelo y la placa de raspado.
1. Para ajustar las zapatas antideslizantes afloje las cuatro tuercashexagonales y los pernos de carro y mueva las zapatasantideslizantes hasta la posici6n deseada. Vea la Figura 6
2. Compruebe que toda la superficie inferior de las zapatasantideslizantes este contra el suelo para evitar un desgastedesparejo de los mismos.

Traba del control de transmisi6n / barrenaEl control detransmisi6n est,. ubicado en la manija derecha. Presione elcontrol de la transmisi6n para engranar la transmisi6n de las ruedas.Sueltela para que se detenga.
Esta misma palanca tambien traba el control de la barrena de manera
que puede operar la manivela del canal sin interrumpir el proceso deliberaci6n de nieve. Si el control de la barrena se engrana
simult_.neamente con el control de transmisi6n, el operador puede soltarel control de la barrena (en la manija izquierda) y las barrenas
continuaran engranadas. Suelte el control de transmisi6n para detenerlas barrenas y la transmisi6n de las ruedas (tambien es necesario soltar
el control de la barrena).
IMPORTANTE: Suelte siempre el control detransmisi6n antes de cambiar las velocidades.
Control de la barrenaEl control de la barrena est,. ubicado en la manija
izquierda. Presione el control de la barrena paraengranar las barrenas. Sueltelo para detener laacci6n de liberaci6n de nieve. Tambien debe soltar el
control de transmisi6n para detener la barrena.
Llave de encendidoLa Ilave de encendido debe estar completamente introducida en elinterruptor antes de arrancar la unidad. Retire la Ilave cuando no use la
maquina quitanieve. No intente girar la Ilave.
Canal de descargaEl angulo del canal de descarga controla la distancia a la cual se arroja
la nieve. Incline el canal de descarga hacia arriba si quiere que la nievesea arrojada a una distancia mayor; incline hacia abajo si quiere que la
descarga se realice a menor distancia.

Control del canalEsta palanca de control de cuatro direcciones esta dise_ada paracontrolar la direcci6n y la distancia de la descarga de nieve desde el
canal'. Oprima el bot6n de la perilla y gffela a izquierda o derecha parahacer girar el canal en la direccidn hacia la que se descargara la nieve.
Incline la palanca hacia delante o hacia atras para ajustar la distancia ala que se arrojara, la nieve.

Antes de encender el motor

Llenado de gasolina
ADVERTENCIA: La gasolina esinflamable; tenga precauci6n cuando lamanipule o la almacene.
ADVERTENCIA: No Ilene el tanque decombustible mientras la maquina quitanieveesta en marcha, cuando esta caliente o cuandoesta en un Area cerrada.

PREOAUOION" Los combustibles con mezcla de
alcohol (llamados "gasohol") o los que utilizanetanol o metanol atraen la humedad, Io cual podrfatener como resultado la separaci6n y la formaci6nde acidos durante el almacenamiento. El gasacidico puede da_ar el sistema de combustible deun motor durante el almacenamiento. Para evitarproblemas de motor, es necesario vaciar el sistemade combustible cuando se almacenara el equipo por30 dfas o mas. Vacie el tanque de nafta, encienda elmotor y dejelo funcionar hasta que las Ifneas decombustible y el carburador esten vacios. Lasiguiente temporada use combustible fresco. Nuncause productos de limpieza para el motor o elcarburador en el tanque de combustible ya queesto provocara un da_o permanente.

Arrancador el ctrico
Para ubicar todos los controles del motor en estasecci6n, vea la secci6n de inserci6n en la Figura 7.
Antes de arrancar, asegQrese de que el motor tenga elnivel de aceite suficiente. El motor de la m_.quinaquitanieve est,. equipado con un arrancador electrico yun arrancador de retroceso de 120 voltios de CA Elarrancador electrico est,. equipado con un cable dealimentaci6n y un enchufe de tres terminales y esta.disefiado para operar con corriente domestica de 120voltios CA. Siga cuidadosamente las instrucciones.
Arranque en frio
NOTA: Si la unidad muestra algdn signo de movimiento(transmisidno barrenas) con las empuhaduras del embraguedesengranadas, apague el motor inmediatamente. Vuelvaaajustar la m#quina tal como se indica en la seccidn "Ajustesfinales" dentro de las instrucciones de ensamblaje.
_ ADVERTENCIA: El arrancador electricodebe estar correctamente conectado a tierraen todo momento para evitar la posibilidad dedescargas electricas que pueden provocarleslesiones al operador.
1. Determine si el cableado de su hogar es un sistema de tres cablesconectado a tierra. Consulte con un electricista matriculado si noesta seguro.
_ DVERTENCIA: si su sistema de cableadodomestico no es un sistema de tres cables conconexi6n a tierra, no utilice este motor electricobajo ningQn tipo de condiciones.
• Si el sistema de cableado de su casa esta conectado a tierra perono existe un receptaculo de tres terminales disponible en el lugardonde normalmente se usara, el arrancador de la maquinaquitanieve, debe indicarle a un electricista con experiencia que Ioinstale.
• Cuando conecte el cable de alimentaci6n, siempre conecte el cableal arrancador del motor primero, luego enchufe el otro extremo a unreceptaculo de tres terminales conectado a tierra.
• Cuando desconecte el cable de alimentaci6n, siempre desenchufeen primer lugar el extremo del recept_.culo de tres terminalesconectado a tierra.
2. Conecte el cable de la bujfa a la misma.3. Aseg_Jrese de que las palancas de transmisi6n de la barrena y de
control de la trasmisi6n esten en posici6n desengranada.4. Mueva la palanca de control del estrangulador a la posici6n FAST
(ra.pido).5. Coloque la Ilave de encendido dentro de la ranura. Asegurese de
que entre a presi6n en su lugar. Nogire la !lave.6. Rote la perilla de obturaoi6n a posici6n FULL (maximo).7. Presione el cebador tres veces.8. Conecte el cable de alimentaci6n a la caja del interruptor del
motor.9. Enchufe el otro extremo del cable de alimentaci6n en un
recepta.culo de CA con conexi6n a tierra de tres terminales de 120voltios.
10. Mantenga presionado el bot6n del arrancador hasta que arranqueel motor. No intente arrancar el motor durante m_.sde 10 segundospor vez. Este arrancador electrico tiene protecci6n termica. Si seproduce un sobrecalentamiento, se detendra automaticamente ypodra ser reiniciado solo cuando se haya enfriado a unatemperatura segura (deber_. esperar de 5 a 10 minutos).
11. Cuando arranca el motor, suelte el bot6n del arrancador y rotesuavemente el obturador a posici6n OFF (apagado). Si el motorfalla, rote el obturador inmediatamente a posici6n FULL y luegogradualmente a OFF.
12. Primero desconecte el cable de alimentaci6n del recepta.culo yluego desconectelo de la caja del interruptor en el motor.
13. Deje que el motor se enfrfe por algunos minutos ya que el motor noalcanzara la potencia total hasta Iograr la temperat.ura operativa.Opere el motor con el estrangulador al ma.ximo (RAPIDO) cuandoeste arrojando nieve.
Arranque en caliente1. Si reinicia el motor en caliente, rote, el obturador a posici6n OFF
(APAGADO) en lugar de FULL (MAXlMO) y presione el bot6n delarrancador.
Arrancador de retroceso
Asegerese que el motor tenga aceite suficiente y quelas palancas de transmisidn de la barrena y de controlde la transmisidn no esten presionadas.
Arranque en frio1. Mueva el control del estrangulador a la posici6n FAST (ra.pido).2. Presione la tecla en la ranura de encendido hasta que encaje a
presi6n en su lugar. No gire la Ilave.3. Rote el control de obturaci6n a posici6n FULL del obturador.4. Presione el bot6n del cebador mientras cubre el agujero de
ventilaci6n. Quite su dedo del cebador entre un cebado y otro. No
cebe el motor si la temperatura es superior a 50 o F; cebelo dos
veces si la temperatura se ubica entre 50o F y 15o F; y cebelo cuatro
veces siesta por debajo de 150 F.5. Tire de la manija del arrancador rapidamente. No deje que la
manija se desenganche, pero permita que se enrosque lentamentemientras mantiene firmemente la manija del arrancador.
6. Mientras el motor se calienta y comienza a funcionar de manerapareja, rote la perilla del obturador lentamente hacia la posici6nOFF. Si el motor falia, gire hacia posici6n FULL, luego muevalentamente hacia posici6n OFF.
7. Deje que el motor se enfrie por algunos minutos ya que el motor noalcanzara la potencia total hasta Iograr la temperat.ura operativa.
8. Opere el motor con el estrangulador al maximo (RAPIDO) cuandoeste arrojando nieve.
Arranque en caliente1. Si vuelve a arrancar un motor caliente despues de un cierre
temporario, rote el obturador a posici6n OFF en lugar de FULL yno Io cebe. Tire de la manija del arraneador como se explic6anteriormente.
Arrancador de retroceso congeladoSi el arrancador est,. congelado y no enciende el motor, prooeda de lasiguiente manera:
1. Saque la mayor cantidad de cuerda posible del arrancador.2. Suelte la manija del arrancador y deje que golpee contra el
arrancador.3. Si contint_ateniendo problemas para arrancar el motor, repita los
dos primeros pasos. Si despues de intentos sucesivos no puedeliberar el arrancador, siga los procedimientos del arrancadorel_ctrico para arrancar.
4. Trate de evitar que el arrancador de retroceso se congelesiguiendo las instrucciones de la p_.gina 47.

Antes de detener la mbquina1. Deje encendido el motor durante algunos minutos para permitir
que se sequela humedad en el mismo.2. Para evitar que se congele el arrancador siga estos pasos antes
de detener la maquina quitanieve:
Arrancador de retrocesoa. Con el motor en funcionamiento, tire con fuerza de la
soga del arrancador tres o cuatro veces de maneracontinua y seguida.
Arrancador el_ctricob. Conecte el cable de alimentaci6n a la caja del
interruptor y luego al recept_.culo de 120 voltios CA.c. Con el motor en marcha, presione el bot6n del
arrancador y deje girar el arrancador por variossegundos.
d. Desconecte el cable de alimentaci6n primero delrecept_.culo y despues de la m_.quina quitanieve.
NOTA: El ruido inusual producto de tirar de la cuerdade arranque, si se trata del arrancador de retroceso, oel que realiza el arrancador al girar, si se trata delarrancador electrico, no da#a al motor.
Procedimiento para detener lam quina quitanieve1. Para detener las ruedas, suelte la palanca de control de la
transmisi6n de la m_.quina quitanieve.2. Para dejar de quitar la nieve, suelte la palanca de transmisi6n de la
barrena.3. Para detener el motor presione la palanca de control del
estrangulador hasta la posici6n OFF (apagado) y saque la Ilave. Nogire la !lave.
Procedimiento para engranar latransmisi6n1. Con el motor en marcha y cerca de la velocidad maxima, mueva la
palanca de cambios a una de las seis posiciones ADELANTE o alas dos posioiones de REVERSA. Seleccione la velocidadadecuada para el estado de la nieve existente. Use las velocidadesmas lentas hasta haberse familiarizado con el proceso.
2. Para mover la maquina quitanieve apriete la empu_adura delembrague de la transmisi6n contra la manija dereoha, y la maquinaquitanieve se mover&. Sueltela y se detiene la transmisi6n demovimiento.
Procedimiento para engranarlas barrenas1. Para engranar las barrenas y comenzar a quitar la nieve, apriete la
empuSadura del embrague de la barrena izquierda contra la manijaizquierda. Sueltela para detener las barrenas.
2. Para mover la mAquina, con el control de la barrena engranado,apriete el control de la transmisi6n y sueltelo para detenerla.Nocambie las velocidades mientras la transmisi6n est,.engranada.
NOTA: Esta misma palanca tambien ajusta el controlde la barrena de manera que puede girar la maniveladel canal sin interrumpir el proceso de quitado de lanieve.
3. Suelte el control de la barrena: el mecanismo de bloqueo debemantener engranado el control de la barrena hasta que se suelte elcontrol de la transmisi6n.
4. Suelte el control de la transmisi6n para detener tanto las barrenascomo la transmisi6n de las ruedas. Para detener la barrena debesoltar ambas palancas.
Procedimiento para quitar la nieve
PRECAUClON: Revise la zona que desea limpiar paradetectar la presencia de objetos extra_os. Si loshubiera debe eliminarlos.
1. Enciendael motorsiguiendolas instruccionesdeencendido.2. Muevael controldel canalparagirarel canaldedescargaa la
posioi6ndeseada(lejosde transetJntesy/o edificios).3. SeleccionelavelocidadsegOnel estadode la nieve.
PREOAUOION" No mueva nunca la palanca decambios sin soltar primero el embrague de latransmisi6n.
4. Engrane el control de las barrenas y las palancas de control de latransmisi6n siguiendo las instrucciones anteriores.
5. La funci6n de bloqueo le permite quitar la mano izquierda de lapalanca de control de la barrena.
6. Mientras limpia el primer paso a traves de la nieve, controle lavelocidad de la maquina quitanieve segOn la profundidad y elestado de la nieve.
7. Para hacer girar la unidad a izquierda o derecha, apriete el controlrespectivo de direcci6n de las ruedas. Vea la Figura 7.
8. Con las pasadas sucesivas reajuste el canal en la posici6ndeseada y traslape levemente la pasada anterior.
9. Despues de limpiar la zona detenga la m_.quina quitanievesiguiendo las instrucciones que aparecen a continuaci6n.

Consejos de operacibn
NOTA: Deje que el motor se caliente unos minutos yaque el mismo no desarrolla la potencia maxima hastaque alcanza la temperatura de funcionamiento.
_ ADVERTENCIA: La temperatura delsilenciador y de las Areas que Io rodean puedesuperar los 150° F (66 ° C). Evite dichas Areas.
• Para que el quitado de la nieve sea m_.seficiente debe hacerloinmediatamente despues de la caida de la misma.
• En Io posible, descargue la nieve en direcciAn al viento. Traslapelevemente las pasadas anteriores.
• Configure las zapatas antideslizantes 1/4" por debajo de la barrade raspado para un uso normal. Las zapatas antideslizantes sepueden ajustar hacia arriba cuando la nieve este muy compactada.
NOTA: Se recomienda evitar el uso de la presentemaquina quitanieve sobre grava ya que puede levantarfacilmente la grava suelta y arrojarla por la barrena conIo que podrfa causar lesiones o da#os a la maquina.
• Si per algOn motivo tiene que usar la m_.quina quitanieve sobregrava, mantenga la zapata antideslizante en la posici6n ma.selevada para Iograr una separaciAn maxima entre el suelo y laplaca de raspado.
• Limpie cuidadosamente la maquina quitanieve despues de cadaUSO.
Herramienta de limpieza del canalLa herramienta de limpieza del canal esta ajustada convenientemente a
la parte posterior de la caja de la barrena con un pasador deensamblado. No use nunca las manos para limpiar un canal tapado.
1. Suelte tanto la palanca de control de la barrena come la palancade bloqueo del control de transmision/barrena.
2. Para detener el motor saque la Ilave de encendido.3. Saque la herramienta de limpieza del pasador que la ajusta a la
parte posterior de la caja de la barrena. Yea la Figura 8.4. Use el extremo con forma de pala de la herramienta de limpieza
para eliminar la nieve y el hielo existentes en el canal de descarga.5. Vuelva a ajustar la herramienta de limpieza al pasador de
ensamblado ubicado en la parte posterior de la caja de la barrena yvuelva a encender el motor.
6. Parado en la posiciAn del operador (detras de la maquinaquitanieve), engrane la palanca del embrague de la barrenadurante unos segundos para eliminar la nieve o el hielo que hayanquedado en el canal de descarga antes de continuar quitando lanieve.

Recomendaciones generales• Respete siempre las reglas de seguridad cuando realice tareas de
mantenimiento.• La garantia de esta mb.quina quitanieve no cubre elementos que
han estado sujetos al real use o negligencia del operador. Pararecibir el reembolso total de la garanfia, el operador deber_, darmantenimiento a la maquina quitanieve come se indica en estemanual.

IMPORTANTE: No Ilene en exceso la caja deengranajes ya que se podria da5ar la junta hermetica.Compruebe que no haya grasa en el tap6n de cierre dela tuberia de ventilaci6n a fin de liberar presi6n.
• Ruedas: Una vez per temporada, retire el perno de cada rueda ysaque la rueda del eje. Aplique grasa autometor multiuso en el ejeantes de volver a colocar las ruedas.
• Varilla de cambio: Use una grasa o aceite liviano para lubricar laspartes rotatorias de la varilla de cambio tras 25 horas de operaci6n.
• Puntos de junta:Lubrique los puntos de junta de la m_.quinaquitanieve con aceite liviano una vez per temporada. Si la unidadesta.equipada con accesorios de engrasado, utilice una pistola degrasa para engrasarlos.

Traba del control de transmision / barrena:La leva de losextremes de las varillas de control que bloquean los embragues dela transmisi6n y de la barrena se debe lubricar per Io menos unavez per temporada o cada 25 horas de funcionamiento mediante eluse de una grasa automotriz para uses varies. Compruebe las correas en VSiga las instrucciones a continuaci6n para verificar el estado delas correas de transmisi6n cada 50 horas de funcionamiento.
1. Saque la cubierta pl_.stica de la correa ubicada en el frente delmotor. Para ello saque los dos tornillos autorroscantes.
2. Compruebe visualmente la existencia de correas raidas,agrietadas o excesivamente gastadas. En case de ser necesario,reemplacelo segt]n las instrucciones de la pagina 50.
Compruebe la rueda de friccibnSiga las instrucciones a continuaci6n para verificar el estado de la ruedade fricci6n cada 50 horas de funcionamiento.
1. Saque los dostornillos autorroscantes de la cubierta del marcoubicada debajo de la m_.quina quitanieve. Censulte la Figura 14.
2. Compruebe visualmente el caucho de la rueda de fricci6n paradetectar la existencia de desgaste excesivo, grietas o piezassueltas en el buje de transmisi6n de la rueda de fricci6n.
3. Engrane tambien el control de transmisi6n y compruebe si la ruedade fricci6n hace contacto con la placa de transmisi6n. Si no hace

contacto, ajuste el cable de la transmisi6n y vuelva a verificar larueda de fricci6n.De ser necesario reemplace la goma de la rueda de fricci6n. Sigalas instrucciones en la pa.gina 51.Vuelva a colocar la cubierta del marco a la maquina quitanieve yvuelva a ubicar el equipo en posici6n de eperaci6n.
Verificacibn del nivel de aceite• Consulte el manual del motor que se incluye para conocer todos
los detalles sobre mantenimiento del mismo. Aqui se incluyenalgunos puntos esenciales para el buen funcionamiento de lam_.quina quitanieve.
Antes de operar la maquina quitanieve, controle el nivel de aceitemediante los siguientes pasos.
NOTA: Aunque los aceites de viscosidad m_ltiple(5W30, 10W30 etc,) mejoran el encendido cuando elclima esta fr/o, los mismos incrementan el consume deaceite cuando se usan a mas de 32°F (0° C).Compruebe el nivel de aceite de la maquina quitanievecon mayor frecuencia para evitar que el motor trabajecon un nivel de aceite bajo,
1. Cen el motor ubicado en suelo parejo, el aceite debe estar en lamarca FULL (lleno) de la varilla del nivel de aceite. Vea la Figura 10
2. Detenga el motor y espere varies minutes antes de verificar el nivelde aceite. Saque el tap6n de carga de aceite y la varilla del nivel deaceite.
3. Limpie la varilla del nivel de aceite e ins@tela en el orificio de cargade aceite y ajt_stela bien.
4. Saque la varilla del nivel de aceite y contr61ela. Si el aceite no Ilegahasta la marca FULL (llene) de la varilla del nivel de aceite,agregue aceite.

7. Levante el ensamblado de la rueda de fricci6n hacia fuera entre losensamblades del semieje y del eje de transmisi6n.
8. Saque los cuatro tornillos del montaje de la rueda de fricci6n.Saque la goma de la rueda de fricci6n de entre la placa de la rueda 41Lde fricci6n. Vea la Figura 20.

Embrague de la transmisibnConsulte la secci6n Ajustes finales de lasinstrucciones de Ensamblado para ajustar elembrague de la transmisidn. Para controlar los ajustesproceda de la siguiente manera:1. Con la ma.quina quitanieve inclinada hacia delante (asegt]rese de
vaciar la gasolina o de colocar una pelicula pl_.stica debajo deltap6n de Ilenado del combustible si la maquina ya ha sido puestaen funcionamiento), saque la cubierta del marco ubicada bajo lamaquina quitanieve, para Io cual debe sacar dos tornillosautorroscantes.
2. Habiendo soltado el embrague de latransmisi6n, debe existir unaseparaci6n de 1/8 pulg. (3,175 mm.) entre la rueda de fricci6n y laplaca de transmisi6n en todas las posiciones de la palanca decambios.
3. Habiendo engranado el embrague de latransmisi6n, la rueda defricci6n debe hacer contacto con la placa de transmisi6n.
4. Si es necesario realizar ajustes, afloje la contratuerca del cable dela transmisi6n y enrosque el cable hacia dentro o hacia afuerasegQn sea necesario. Ajuste la contratuerca para asegurar el cableuna vez alcanzado el ajuste correcto.
5. Vuelva a ensamblar la tapa del marco y regrese la unidad a suposici6n de operaci6n.
NOTA: Si colocd plastico debajo del tapon de Ilenadodel combustible asegdrese de sacarlo ahora.

Si su maquina quitanieve no se va a utilizar durante 30 dias o mas, tieneque prepararla para el almacenamiento. Asimismo, al final de la
temporada de nieve debe seguir el mismo grupo de instrucciones yalmacenar la maquina quitanieve adecuadamente para el periodo de
fuera de temporada. Un almacenamiento adecuado asegura una vidat_til m_.sprolongada para la ma.quina quitanieve.
Preparacion para el almacenamiento
ADVERTENCIA: Nunca almacene lamaquina quitanieve, cuando aQn tienecombustible en el tanque, en un espaciocerrado o en areas con poca ventilaci6n dondelos gases del combustible puedan alcanzar elfuego, chispas o una luz piloto como la quetienen algunos hornos, calentadores de agua,secadores de ropa o algQn otro dispositivo agas.
ADVERTENCIA: Drene el combustible dentrode un recipiente aprobado en un lugar exterior,lejos de todo tipo de fuego. Compruebe que elmotor este frio. No fume.
ADVERTENCIA: No drene el carburador siest.. utilizando un estabilizador decombustible. En el dep6sito de combustible nouse nunca productos de limpieza para motoreso carburadores o podria producir da5ospermanentes.
Es importante evitar que durante el almacenamiento se formendep6sitos de goma en las piezas esenciales del sistema de
combustible del motor como, por ejemplo, en el carburador, elfiltro de combustible, la manguera de combustible o el dep6sito.
El combustible que se deje en el motor se deterioracuando el clima es c_.lido y causa graves problemas deencendido. Para evitar estos problemas, el sistema delcombustibledebe ser vaciadoantes de almacenar la
mb.quina durante 30 dias o mb.s.
NOTA: La experiencia indica tambien que loscombustibles con mezcla de alcohol (que se Ilamangasohol o que utilizan etanol o metanol) pueden atraerla humedad, la cual conduce a la separacidn yformacidn de acidos durante el almacenamiento. El gasacfdico puede da_ar el sistema del combustible de unmotor durante el almacenamiento del mismo.
1. Saquetoda la gasolina del carburador y del dep6sito decombustible para evitar la formaci6n de dep6sitos de goma en elmotor.
2. Ponga el motor en marcha hasta vaciar el dep6sito de combustibley hasta que el motor se detenga debido a la falta de combustible.
3. Retire la bujia y vierta (1) enza de aceite para motor a traves delorificio de la bujia y hacia el interior del cilindro. Celoque un traposobre el erificio. Arranque con manivela el motor varias veces paradistribuir el aceite. Reemplace la bujia.
NOTA: Siga el manual del motor para conocer maspreparativos para almacenamiento del motor de lamaquina quitanieve.
4. Cuando almacene la maquina quitanieve en un galp6n de dep6sitometalico o con poca ventilaci6n, realice un tratamiento anti-oxidante al equipo. Use aceite ligero o silic6n para recubrir elequipo, especialmente las cadenas, los resortes, los cojinetes y loscables.
5. Elimine todo el polvo del exterior del motor y del equipo.6. Siga las recomendaciones de lubricaci6n en la pagina 48.7. Almacene la m_.quina quitanieve en un Area despejada y seca.
