PERFORMANCE INDICATOR

PerformanceIndicator

When the unit

is running withnormal air flow, the light on theperformanceindicator is off.

The lightcomes onwhenever theairflow

becomes blocked. If that occurs, check

the disposable dust bag, motor safety filterand other possible clog locations shown inHOW YOUR VACUUM CLEANERWORKS.

To correct problem: See the TROUBLE-SHOOTING table.

Note: The light may also come on whenusing attachments, due to reduced airflowthrough the attachment.

STAIR GRIP

During normal operation while the canister isin the horizontal position, the caster wheelrotates freely 360 °.

The Stair Gripfeature allowsthe casterwheel to lock in

position whenthe unit isrotated 25"from horizontalinto a vertical

position in order for the canister to rest onstairs.

WAND LIGHTThis unit is equipped with alight on the extension wand. This light will operate onlywhen the unit is in CARPETmode (see HOW TOSTART). The light willoperate when attached or notattached to the Power-Mate@.

The light can be used for lighting hard toreach locations.

POWER-MATE ®STORAGE

The wand has a "U" A

shaped flange that mAll,,

slides into the =U" ...lB._

shaped slot on the Vcanister

The flange allows thewands and Power-Mate®to be storedwith the canister to

conserve storage space. The canistermust be stored on end for this feature tobe used.

To attach the Power-Mate ®, it must be inthe fiat position as shown in theillustration. Use the handle release pedalto place it in this position.

The wand will slip out of the slot as it is liftedup for use and will slide into the slot as it islowered for storage.

THERMAL PROTECTORThis vacuum cleaner has a thermal

protector which automatically trips to protectthe vacuum cleaner from overheating. If aclog prevents the normal flow of air to themotor, the thermal protector turns themotor off automatically. This allows themotor to cool in order to prevent possibledamage to the vacuum cleaner.

To correct problem: Turn the vacuumcleaner off and unplug the power cordfrom the outlet to allow the vacuum

cleaner to cool and the thermal protectorto reset. Check for and remove dogs, ifnecessary. Also check and replace anyclogged filters. Wait approximatelythirty (30) minutes and plug the vacuumcleaner in and turn back on to see if themotor protector has reset.

DIRT SENSOR

The dirt sensor

light system ismounted on thePower-Mate ®nozzle near thereset button.

It consists of a series of two rod lights and twogreen lights. The lights give you an indicationof the amount of dirt particles that are passingthrough the sensor on its way to the dust bag.

INITIAL START UP

When the Power-Mate ° is first started, the fol-lowing light sequence occurs in a two secondtime frame:

t. Two reds come on.

2. Two greens are on and will remain on untilthe Power-Mate ®nozzle is placed in use.

NOTE: If the nozzle is on a surface that has

dirt on it, dirt will be picked up by the vacuumand the red lights might stay on.

IN OPERATION

When the Power-Mate" is being moved backand forth on the floor, the lights will changefrom one configuration to another as dirt isbeing vacuumed. As long as the rod lights areon, dirt is passing through the wand to indicatethat the surface still needs cleaning.

When the green lights stay on as the Power-Mate ® is moved back and forth over an area, the sensor is not seeing enough dirt to warrantfurther cleaning of that area.

NOTE: Dirt sensor lights DO NOT function inthe FLOOR setting.

The vacuum cleaner creates suction thatpicks up dirL Rapidly moving air carries thedirt to the dust bag through the airflow pas-sages. The dust bag lets the air passthrough, while it traps the dirt.

For best cleaning results, keep the air-flow passage open. Check thestarTed areas occasionally forclogs. Unplug from outlet beforechecking.
