chosen university and degree course.

The Bridging Programme

The Bridging Programme is run for all students joining the college and gives them the chance to engage with interestingand challenging topics that fall outside of the academic syllabus. The programme gives students an awareness of theirchosen field of study, including a realistic insight into the industry and the current events and issues related to it. It alsoprepares them for their Medical school interviews and subject - specific interviews at Oxford and Cambridge.

Aptitude Testing PreparationStudents are able to choose from the following subjects:Medicine, Science, Economics, Engineering, Law, VeterinaryMedicine, Computer Science, Architecture and Linguistics. The number of programmes we offer is constantly growingand we make sure to provide for each and every studentreflecting all career options.

Aptitude test preparation is designed to prepare studentsfor the admissions test they will be required to complete forcertain subjects (Medicine, Law etc.) or certain universities(e.g. Oxbridge). The skills students develop throughpreparing for these tests will, however, go beyond this, leading to improved critical thinking and problem solvingability of use in both the classroom and the workplace.

Most students will have timetabled classes in twofollowing:

After the first term, students will be given the opportunityto partake in the Extended Project Qualification. This is aunique opportunity for the students to guide their ownlearning and research a specific topic of interest beyond theA-Level syllabus, creating a final piece of work of around5,000 words. Students are guided through this by their EPQmentor to support with the research and writing process, aswell as specific skills sessions. The EPQ is highly recommended for students applying totop universities as it demonstrates motivation to pursuefurther study in the student’s chosen subject and providesan impressive talking point in the personal statement andinterviews.

Competitions

Students are strongly encouraged to take part in the academic competitions and are supported by their mentors.

Competitions can be of great help in ensuring that students gain a place at their desired university and can also improveessay-writing skills and teamwork. Just a few of the competitions include:

City of Oxford

One of the world’s most famous universitycities, it’s no surprise that Oxford is athriving hub for scholars and academics. The spire-topped English Gothic grade I andII-listed buildings that house the University

of Oxford’s 38 different colleges arescattered throughout the labyrinth ofOxford’s tapered cobbled streets. However, there’s much more to Oxford than wigs andgowns. Beyond the college walls, there’sanother side to the town to be discovered.

18

City of Oxford

The town also benefits from a vibrant arts and culturalscene. Venues such as the Oxford Playhouse and the OldFire Station host a diverse range of concerts includingdrama, dance, musical performances, comedy and more,

including student-targeted entertainment and

opportunities for young people to get involved in acting.

History enthusiasts will enjoy exploring the 1,000-year-oldOxford Castle, including its 900-year-old undergroundcrypt (the remains of St George’s Chapel) and Saxon StGeorge’s Tower, offering unrivalled panoramic views overOxford.

Meanwhile, the Ashmolean Museum – the University ofOxford’s art and archaeology museum – contains a myriadof fascinating artefacts, from Egyptian mummies tocontemporary art.

Also owned by the University of Oxford, the BodleianLibrary is one of the oldest libraries in the world.Established in 1602, the Library was the setting for severalscenes in the early Harry Potter movies and features the

15thbeautiful century Divinity School, the medieval Duke

Humfrey's Library, and the impressive Radcliffe Camera, with its circular library/reading space.

In addition, Oxford has a great reputation for its food anddrink, home to Michelin-star restaurants, cosy countrypubs, farmers’ markets and social enterprise cafesspanning different cuisines. To dine in true Oxford-style,head to the Cherwell Boathouse and tuck into some tastyfood, before hiring a punt and rowing down the RiverCherwell.

If you ever tire of exploring Oxford, the surrounding townsand villages make for excellent day trip options.
