Introduction and Awards Panel

www.oxfordpreservation.org.uk

It is always a pleasure to visit and see the work that is taking place across the City, and the quality and range of this year’s entries was stronger than ever. Now in their 37th year, the Oxford Preservation Trust Awards is our chance to recognise the contribution others make to Oxford, adding to the lives of the people who live and work here.

There was lively discussion amongst the judges in making our decisions which resulted in the awarding of the nine plaques and twelve certificates across the categories of Buildings Conservation, New Buildings, Small Projects and the Environment.

I would like to thank Kemp & Kemp and Critchleys for their vital support through their sponsorship of the Oxford Preservation Trust Awards 2014.

Wolvercote LakesOPT celebrated the opening of the

Wolvercote Lakes. With a grant from Grantscape and all the hard work of our volunteer land parties we have

enhanced the wildlife protection and everyone can now enjoy the many

birds, insects and flowers.

Oxford Heritage Walks SeriesAfter the success of our first book in the Oxford Heritage Walks series, we have published ‘On Foot from Broad Street’ which covers the area around Blackwells. The series, written by Malcolm Graham and illustrated by Edith Gollnast, captures the ‘hidden history’ of Oxford – the cracks and crevasses, going beyond the usual attractions and above the ground level view of Oxford.

Oxford Open DoorsResidents come in their thousands to celebrate and learn more about their City. In 2014, 130 places and events attracted over 60,000+ visits, with the anniversary of World War I and the celebration of the Oxford Building Excellence programme being special themes for the weekend.

Oxford Preservation Trust

Established in 1927, we have links across all walks of the City’s life, town and gown, working to make a positive difference to our buildings and streets, and caring for open spaces which contribute to Oxford’s green setting. Through widening public access and participation, we add something extra to the lives of the people who live, work, and visit.
